GUILTY MI - Ramsay Scrivo, 32, found dismembered, St Clair County, 27 Jan 2014 - #2

The death of a child before a parent is sad, but it’s a tragedy when the parent takes the life of his or her child.

Assistant Prosecutor William Cataldo presented that theme at the start of his opening statement this morning in the murder trial of Donna Scrivo, 61, accused of killing her son, Ramsay, 32, in his St. Clair Shores home where she had been residing.

“Not only does he die before his mother, he literally and figuratively died at the hands of his mother,” Cataldo told jurors in Macomb County Circuit Court in Mount Clemens. “This is unspeakable because it’s planned, premeditated and carried out by his mother.”

Prosecutor: Donna Scrivo's murder of her son ‘unspeakable'

Cataldo said video will show and witnesses will testify that Scrivo did not appear to be crying or upset while she knew her son was dead. But she wept during jury selection Tuesday.

“I watched Mrs. Scrivo go to tears yesterday, 16 months later,” Cataldo told jurors. “You will see her nonchalance as she walking in Lowe’s looking for a saw, looking for blades” to cut up her son.

Dueling images of Donna Scrivo emerge in murder trial

Ramsay Scrivo was drugged, killed by ligature strangulation, dumped in the bathtub inside his St. Clair Shores condo and cut with a saw into 14 pieces. His remains were dumped in another county — his decapitated head rolled onto the highway.

"It's unspeakable. It's planned. It's premeditated," Macomb County Assistant Prosecutor William Cataldo told a circuit court jury Wednesday. "It's carried out by his mother."

Store employee: Scrivo was in a hurry returning saw

Donna Scrivo seemed to be in a hurry when she returned a jigsaw prosecutors say she used to cut up her son’s body to the Lowe’s store where she purchased it, an employee testified Thursday.

Juanita Velasco, an assistant manager at the Lowe’s store in Harper Woods, said a hurried Scrivo returned to the store about 8 p.m. Jan. 27, 2014, after purchasing the jigsaw that morning. Scrivo was entering the store and stopped Velasco in the store vestibule

Especially not in the tools area, where I tend to hang out.

Real life is getting in the way of me following this trial, so thanks for the posts and updates!

She actually returned two saws before settling on the Skil.
First: Black and Decker
Second: Porter-Cable
Third: Skil

See first 10mins or so of the Preliminary Hearing.

Sounds like the first two saws weren't holding a charge. The Skil was corded, not sure though of model number.

I would think using the Skil Jig Saw to dismember would be difficult based on how the jig saw operates, up on a raised platform. A reciprocating saw would be easier. She must have layed him out on a table? It would be a challenge dismembering a person in a tub with a jig.

I don't know why this case is not getting any media. I remember when it happened my hubby came home and told me about it , it made the Dc metro area stations and now nothing.

I am really thankful to those of you who have time to post updates. I wish Ramsey could have had a real mom ,instead of whatever that thing in those photos is.

But clean up would be easier in tub

Other items in the bags included the power Skil jigsaw that prosecutors say Scrivo used to cut up her son’s body, four saw blades, packaging for the saw and blades, a women’s sweater, jogging pants, a half-dozen burned matches, charred gloves and socks, an unknown item with a CVS plastic bag melted onto it, another melted bag and men’s pajama bottoms.

Her jury trial started Wednesday and is scheduled to resume Tuesday in front of Judge Richard Caretti in Macomb County Circuit Court in Mount Clemens.

Saw this link posted "somewhere" :waitasec: - thought I'd drop by and see what's going with this. As zoey said - can't get past the head rolling onto the highway!!

So - I take it court goes from Tuesday to Thursday?? I see the last post is from Wednesday the 8th... a break for Mother's Day??

TIA! :seeya:

Is there court today?

ETA... I sent an email to reporter at Macomb Daily asking what is happening with the trial. It seems odd that there has been nothing since Thursday, no news reports, updates, nothing I can find. The trial was supposed to last only two weeks. No court was held on Friday (anyone know why?)
