I just love that defense needs this witness to establish drugs caused GF’s death but the person they need to help them with that is the person who would be held responsible. Why should he help them? I think no matter what the judge rules, Hall will plead the 5th and take the contempt charge.
Even if the jury does hear that Hall supplied the drugs, it will be very difficult to prove Floyd died from an overdose. The ER Doctor testified that he did not believe he overdosed and the 'cause of death' was not an overdose. I think juries pay attention when it comes to expert testimony. They still haven't heard the forensic pathologists explain how they believe Floyd died.

Hall FLED the state immediately

Hall fled because he had outstanding warrants.

He fled two days after George was killed.

But Mr. Hall — who had outstanding warrants for his arrest on felony possession of a firearm, felony domestic assault and felony drug possession — provided a false name to officers at the scene of Mr. Floyd’s arrest, according to a Minnesota official.
Mr. Hall left Minneapolis and hitchhiked to Houston two days later, after visiting a memorial at the site of the police encounter.

Exactly. The jury will weigh the evidence from first responders, doctors, bystanders, drug dealer in the car (if he testifies), ME. And they will view the video that shows an officer trained in rendering medical aid neglect to do so, whether the medical aid was needed for a drug overdose or other reason.

I think Hall has a lot of credibility problems and he’s a convicted felon (multiple) as we saw from his records that someone posted. He’s not some two bit weed dealer. Ultimately, this is an adversarial process and State doesn’t have to use its powers to help defense. That is not required for a fair trial IMO. State has a burden to meet. It doesn’t have to bend over backwards to help defense. Defense doesn’t get a buffet to make their own meal.

I absolutely love that so far the PD witnesses have all said that when the suspect is no longer a threat, they’re to render first aid. Chauvin did not. He said no when Lane mentioned it. That is damaging.

The defense needs to give up the drug use. That is not what killed GF!

The cause of death is most often multi-factorial with a multitude of causes. We had this discussion so many times in the COVID thread.

As this relates to the COVID discussion, assume you have a patient that and was a smoker, had high blood pressure, was morbidly obese, and had diabetes... And then they got COVID. He died of COVID but all the others are indirect cause of death. COVID was the direct cause of death.

He died of cardiopulmonary arrest. Add in asphyxia (no oxygen to brain and heart from blood) For GF, Chauvin et al was the direct cause of GF's death per both autopsy results, and was noted a homicide as manner of death. Prolonged compression asphyxia and positional asphyxia contributed MOO.

No matter his heart condition or drugs, LE minimally hastened his death. I don't see any way around that.

IANAL, but, with my limited knowledge, if I'm Nelson, I'd want Hall to testify so desperately that I'd propose questions that would not implicate him of any crimes.

Mr. Hall, did you witness Mr. Floyd ingest any narcotics on May 25, 2020?
Did Mr. Floyd appear to be under the influence of any mind-altering or behaviour-altering substances on May 25, 2020?
Was Mr. Floyd acting in an irrational or erratic manner on May 25, 2020?
Did you witness Mr. Floyd playing basketball on May 25, 2020?
Did you witness Mr. Floyd fall asleep in the vehicle outside of Cup Foods on May 25, 2020?
Did you witness Mr. Floyd ingest any substance upon approach of MPD officers on May 25, 2020?

Surely the Judge can restrict even the re-direct questions of the State to eliminate the need for him to plead the 5th even with those limited questions?

Maurice aka Morries Hall is a really bad guy that should never be on the street..rap sheet mile long and that is only what he was caught doing....it is way more than drugs....the immunity that would have to be granted is too broad and I am sure has been discussed. As a citizen here in Minneapolis I don't want this guy given immunity on anything. Just let him plead the fifth...it is all on the video and when he opens his mouth I think the jury will get a read on him.

I think that you have made some great points.

I'm really interested to hear the medical examiner's testimony.
I believe that the ME, if they are a pathologist, will have even more specific training to determine COD, than the ER Doc, who I think did a great job.
IMO there is a hierarchy of medical knowledge displayed so far, based on testimony and training.

1) General public bystanders
2) Police (trained in CPR)
3) Ms. Hansen (FF and also EMT)
4) Paramedics
5) Dr Langenfeld (ER Dr.)

Court TV - Live Stream - Web - Court TV

Sorry reading too fast at work. Just realized you asked for Washington Post!

Yeah, I specifically post the WaPo YouTube at the beginning of the day as it has transcripts later of the entire YouTube if someone wants to read to find stuff later, or just read vs. viewing. MOO.

At EOD, I post in the media thread at MN - George Floyd, 46, Minneapolis, 25 May 2020 **Media & Timeline - NO DISCUSSION .

All are good for following, just my preference as talking heads and interuptions are pretty neutral and minimal so we can make our own minds up.
MOO

Thanks!

Omg! This unruly crowd angle is wearing thin! I just feel like the harder he presses this point the less credible he appears. I know it’s his job etc etc but geez!

I agree. And so is the drug angle! I’m at the point where I have to mute my tv when Nelson is questioning.

It’s really not. The crowd was not unruly. It was not posing a threat to the officers. The crowd mostly consisted of minors (females at that!) and they were only yelling about GF not being able to breathe, that he needed HELP, and he was DYING!!! They were not a threat, if they were I’m sure Thao wouldn’t of been standing there fairly comfortable and making comments about don’t do drugs kids, etc. JMO

good thing you’re not a juror - you shouldn’t dismiss any angle until you’ve paid attention to all the evidence- Holding on to your preconceived outcome betrays the entire process.
When closely following a trial, I make an effort to keep an open mind. Unless I want to argue one side or the other, then I’ll let my bias be known.
This case- my mind is open
I sure hope we do have open minded jurors

paramedics felt them enough of a threat they scooped Floyd

they know the area, they know the environment far better than we do
