I didn't view Thao's demeanor in a positive light, from the videos shown. JMO.

Chauvin and Thao give the impression of being a bad-arse cop team, to me. They probably should have been split up and paired with some calmer officers. Ones who are better at de-escalation.

The concept of a "reasonable officer" is at the heart of this entire case, IMO. It references the Graham vs Connor statute:

Graham v. Connor - Wikipedia

Edited to clarify wording and add link.

Yes. "Reasonable" person is at the heart of much law. What a reasonable person would have done.

Does Nelson understand his own questions? It's very hard to follow him.

And why does he have to add Right? To every question?

Psychological ploy because every defence lawyer wants to elicit as many "Yes" responses as possible to subliminally impress upon jurors that witnesses are in agreement with the defence position.

At times they seem to be few and far between ;)

THERE WAS NO THREATENING CROWD. It was a couple people telling them to HELP HIM!

this witness is not giving an inch to Nelson...Nelson is not getting anything here and should give up.

He just seems so cold and unobservant. When investigators asked him what they could have done differently all he said was they could have put Floyd on the sidewalk. This was after they asked him all the questions about crisis intervention and de-escalation. Imo

All he’s doing IMO is pointing out what his client SHOULD HAVE done, and did NOT.

Anyone think DC is writing, I will never kneel on a neck again, thousands of times?

Does Nelson think his effectiveness is a function of the time spent asking questions/the number of Q’s asked?

I guess that’s all he has to work with. This just makes me more and more angry. I wonder if the jury is having the same reaction.

Yet another expert witness Nelson can't break.

The witness certainly appears more thirsty than when he was questioned by the prosecution.

this is another good witness for the state. Nelson is looking so bad. Will he come back with his case in chief and regain control of this courtroom? I sort of doubt it.

“You’re trained in prone control”
“Yes... I suppose.”

“Can’t use force to address risk.”

Yikes.

The witness wrote an opinion piece a few days after the incident. Seems like it came back to haunt him. He says he changed his opinion. ;)

That’s bothered me from the get go! And “reasonable officer”

We will likely hear a lot of 'reasonable officer' when the prosecution cross examines the defense witnesses.

"So you think George was acting as if he was overdosing? Would a reasonable officer then have acted accordingly? Instead of restricting George's breathing with a knee on George's neck, and leaving him in a restrained prone position?" (for example)

I wonder if DC wants to put his knee across Nelson's neck right now.
