I can’t believe that article on closed sidebar about a teacher showing kids the trial. It has evoked some serious emotion in me, I cannot imagine how a child can process that. I am all for educating but it has to be appropriate xx

I think it was about recent experience. Approx 1 minute into this video:
Ok, thanks. Now I remember. He mentioned it in regard to his wearing a uniform.

I think I missed Nelson using the word ceremonial. Was he implying Zimmerman didn't have enough experience in the field? Or making arrests? Somehow I can't see Zimmerman yelling, "Get your (blankin) hands on the wheel!" In the manual it says officers are not to use harsh language or profanity. Not that I doubt they do once in awhile. I think Lane was very nervous.

IIRC it was part of the stream of questions that Nelson was asking and Weki mentioned above in post #9 above that read ---- “Your job is mostly administrative, right?” “ You’re not on the streets day to day patrolling?” “Are you even required to do the basic defensive training that all officers do?”---

I cannot know what he was implying for sure, but I do have an opinion as a trial follower that he was trying to diminish his testimony MOO

I didn't time stamp the comment in my notes as to time stamp to get quotes from the YouTube or transcript (one thing that WaPo Youtubes have.. is a day after you can click on the three dots and open a transcript of the youtube) That's my best guess as to your question. Perhaps others have theirs.

ETA: Cross posted...Thanks to @Legally Bland .. here is direct quote from Nelson's question... "Since 1993, other than perhaps for ceremonial resons, you've not worn a uniform on a daily basis"

ummmmmmmmmmm, neither have others that are in the position of detectives etc. MOO

Yes, I had forgotten about him asking about his wearing his uniform. I think he was trying to point out that in Zimmerman's job as an administrator, he didn't experience as many situations in which excessive force was necessary, so he couldn't relate to the situation Chauvin was in. But that doesn't make sense, since he is qualified to investigate crimes such as this and he's also a police officer. It's rare that a police officer testifies against another officer. His testimony was very powerful.

My sixteen year old is the one who showed me the video that went viral. She's become very passionate about civil rights. I don't know that I would use the case as part of a lesson in school, but anything that differs from the usual curriculum has to be cleared with an administrator. I don't know whether that particular teacher did that or not. Since it's a high profile case, maybe they allowed it. Imo

Week two of testimony in the Derek Chauvin trial will get underway at 9:15 morning, possibly including testimony from MPD Chief Medaria Arradondo.

At 8:30, there will be a motion hearing for some legal issues to be discussed.

Actually -- the court docket just slide the start time of the motion hearing to 8:45.

Today begins week 2 in the #DerekChauvinTrial. We expect MPD Police Chief Arradondo to take the stand. Arradondo has called #GeorgeFloyd's death, "murder" and condemned Chauvin's actions. (Arradondo seen kneeling in foreground as Floyd's remains taken to memorial service) Getty

What did the judge say on live stream about no visual and audio and no streaming outside of courtroom?

  • #30
No audio or video? What the heck?

  • #31
Off camera and audio: They had a Schwartz hearing about jury misconduct. They found none and will continue.

Defense asking for more body camera video to be allowed later to be shown for the jury. Judge allows some of it to be entered saying it's relevant because it shows Chauvin's "demeanor and actions" immediate following encounter. The State continues their case, shortly.

Eric Nelson objected to Sgt. Pleoger and Lt. Zimmerman's testimony.

Judge Cahill denied the defense motion to suppress opinions made by officers about use of force.

Judge Cahill says "I am allowing the Chiefs testimony that the use of force was contrary to policy."

Sounds like we'll hear from multiple people from MPD, including Chief Arradondo, Sgt. Ker Yang and Inspector Katie Blackwell today.

Judge Cahill said earlier that tomorrow they'll have to go over "Mr. Hall's invocation of his rights."

They're going to bring the jury in now.

Judge Cahill: "Just for the record, the next hearing is going to be on the record with spectators present, but we are going to go off audio and off video, so it will not be broadcast outside..."

Audio/video came back on for a moment. Judge Cahill told jurors they would conduct this hearing off audio/video but on the record. We heard him say the jurors had a handout...audio was cut once Judge Cahill started to swear them in. #DerekChauvinTrial

Back on audio/video. Judge Cahill says he did not find any juror misconduct and that he found them credible in their responses.

Listening to pre=trial arguments I think there will be lots of objections today on this training and use of force.

There are 3 officers due to testify today. This is going to be unmissable. I’m supposed to be working on my degree but this trial has me hooked..

Nelson seems to be very nervous about the crisis intervention trainer's testimony. I think there are going to be some good examples of what officers should and shouldn't do, and it's going to look very bad for Chauvin. Imo
