That's not really how the story went. First of all, the kid and his father both claim he didn't run the stop sign (it wasn't a light). Not that I expect anyone to believe either of them, but that's what they claim. Second of all, according to the father and son, the Officer became absolutely apoplectic about the fact that the father wanted to witness the interaction the officer was having with his son. The father offered to stay in his car, and therefore out of the way. The officer refused to allow it, handcuffed the father, and threw him into the back of the police car. He was never charged with a crime, and according to his statement, in no way threatened or confronted the officer. Again, I know better than to imagine 99% of the people in this forum will believe any of that, but the point was to let TheDuchess know that yes, stories about OW do exist, contrary to what she previously believed.

Stories are just that and we've not heard Officer Wilson's side. Of course the kid and his father both claim he didn't run the stop sign. That's what kids and their parents do....make excuses, no matter their race. Good grief, it is happening in high schools all across America. There are consequences for unlawful actions. My own son told his little sister that he didn't need to stop if the stop sign had a white border and he intended to turn right. Does that make him right? Heck no. He was grounded and car taken away. Our neighbor was our "witness." Cops would have ticketed him and rightly so. <modsnip> We all have our own life experiences that shape our opinions.

I wonder what time the first shot is fired? Before or after the disturbance call is made.

I think it is common sense that anyone, anyone who was arrested by LE would feel that if they complained the officer might try to get even by giving you a ticket every time you blinked. That is nothing new for anyone. We all feel the same way. And it is why many people, regardless of who they are, will not report LE if they believe they were mistreated. Does not mean they were, does not mean LE would try and get even. It's just a fear everyone has BECAUSE cops are human, too.

It is also just as true that many people will blame someone else, blame the police, blame anyone other than themselves in order to try to wriggle out of any trouble they get into. It is "I wasn't doing anything, it was this out of control cop who made a scene and created a crime out of nothing". You hear something along those lines so many times.

There are bad cops, but there are way, way more bad civilians in these sorts of incidents.

"St. Louis on the Air": A conversation about Ferguson with Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal and Johnetta Elzie.

http://news.stlpublicradio.org/post/catching-events-ferguson

Senator Nadal : 'eyes on Ferguson'

"I did ask the chief to shut down the street on Saturday, and he said NO. And that was frustrating. We were trying to protest and we were being shackled and thrown to the ground...are you kidding me? We want respect. We are American citizens and we are not treated as such. "

" And that is the role I take in these crowd situations, to try and calm things down. " { YOU are a calming influence? ARE U SERIOUS?}

activist:"Harry Belafonte says if your going to do it, go all out-have unemployed people come down and make noise and protest and bother the police and flood the jails..... "

"The police are bullies--very frustrating the way they get so aggressive. I was tear gassed and shot 4 or 5 times with rubber bullets. If anyone is an urban terrorist it is them, not us."

very interesting info here:

http://news.stlpublicradio.org/post/...vents-ferguson

It is not just Senator Nadal, other guests and locals who call in.

Nadal poo-poos a local resident who was criticizing the protestors. Rudely so. She is very arrogant in this interview.

"I tried to communicate to the chief what we needed. And he ignored it. I am not just asking as a citizen. I am a STATE SENATOR....blah blah blah"

" We are trying to keep people calm..." [ SHE KEEPS SAYING THIS AND IT IS BALONEY...grrrrrrr]

"The problem with the citizen review board...is the details...no real enforcement...so the devil is in the details... on all of these promises---are they empty promises again"

"Mike Brown is on their minds....Our young people are being targeted, they are hurting, they are injured..."

" if we don't get the answers we need, things will go to another level...."

Senator Nadal is more like 50 shades of cray cray, imo.

" And that is the role I take in these crowd situations, to try and calm things down.

My intern was run over by KKK!

Geez, if that's calming things down, I wonder what she'd do if she was trying to stir the pot.

She said something in the middle of the interview, that I think is another baldfaced lie, like 'the KKK driver running over 3 protestors...'

She says early in the interview, something about one of her 'constituents' being arrested and 'shackled and handcuffed' for nothing, 'just being on the sidewalk' [sure]--

then later, she beefs it up a bit, and says the woman was shackled, and knocked over by the cops, ' And SHE BROKE HER BACK.." [really? ]

Our police department doesn’t use or possess tear gas, rubber bullets, stingers or any of the items used during protest.

So who used tear gas and shot her with rubber bullets?

If it wasn't SLPD, then that should be acknowledged, and protestors should also acknowledge that if their protests turn violent, and evolve into riots LE is bound to become aggressive in their efforts to shut it down.

LOL!!! Too funny!

But the sad thing is, that it's all video taped - we can all see what really happened and STILL people agree with her! OMG

I read on one of her tweeties someone said if she ran for president, they'd vote for her :jawdrop:

wow - yesterday's conversations were great = thank you.

there's one thing that stuck out from the discussion - that some feel that the robbery has no relevance and i can't make that leap no matter how hard i try. he had the stolen merchandise in plain sight as he was walking down the middle of the road.

i would have liked to hear more justification about how/why this should be ignored.

I know, right. One person was saying " I hope your intern recovers..." Did they even watch the video? LOL

She started to say something about it in this radio interview, then quickly stopped herself. I think she worried that she'd be called out by one of the callers or the interviewer.

12:01:00 Wilson encounters MB & DJ (estimated based on travel time of 1/2 mile from Glenark to Canfield)
12:01:50 Disturbance call on Canfield Dr. (page 14)
12:02:22 Second officer arrives Canfield (page 15)
<snip>
12:11:38 Piaget first video starts

So.... the first Piaget video doesn't even start until 10 1/2 minutes after OW encounters MB & DJ? And 9 minutes after the second officer arrives on scene? She claims to have seen the entire incident, but she never started recording until more than 10 minutes later?

  • #317
You haven't heard anything that CMac has said that might explain why no report is EVER filed?

Then I have little sympathy for people who don't lodge complaints if they feel an officer has behaved inappropriately.

Seriously, people want to complain about the bad eggs on the police force, but not file a complaint? How are supervisors suppose to get rid of bad cops if they don't know about them? Consult a psychic? Mind read? Crystal ball?

My parents taught me to roll down my window just enough to hand my license and insurance to the officer and kindly inform him I have nothing else to tell him. Sometimes that doesn't go over too smooth.

Yeah if you only crack your window the cops probably think your car reeks of pot and you are trying to hide the odor. Course if you ARE trying to hide something in the car then that is a good strategy.

If you are pulled over for a traffic violation then just be pleasant and accept the ticket, every time I have been pulled over it was justified so why make the situation unpleasant?

No kidding! With so many people having a video phone, so many whip them out immediately when something happens, it's just a bit hard to figure how no one that talked to the media bothered to film the incident. I would think with all the police brutality they claim in that area, lots of the residents would start taping the minute the officer stopped in the street. If nothing came of it, delete it. Just seems hokey to me. Hopefully someone did and the GJ saw it.

  • #320
Are you kidding me? Nevermind. You're right. No one should investigate potential bad acts of OW in the past.

But they HAVE investigated Officer Wilson! 9 reporters tried to find information about him. They found nothing bad.
