Yes, I believe I would.

My younger sister, who is my heartbeat, was abused by a pedophile. I empathize with her abuser. I am not someone who finds it difficult to disapprove of and feel pain about the terrible things humans do and still love them because they are human and, therefore, my brothers/sisters.

I would prefer not to see pedophilia and homosexuality lumped into the same box here. I never really put much thought into the origins of a pedophile's inclinations. However, when I think of sexual abuse involving adults, I consider it to be a crime of violence, not sexual preference. It's an act of control and, very often, hatred. I have always seen sexual abuse against children in that same way. IMO, homosexuality is an inherant trait, not a learned behavior. Apples and oranges.

Fairy - I think these are very important points. I believe pedophilia is much different from just child sexual abuse. One is some ingrained/learned proclivity to sex with children. The other, to me, falls much more in line with a need to control and hurt. I don't know where the first comes from and don't understand it very well. I think the second comes from anger and frustration - learned behaviors.

A lot to think about there, thanks for a well thought out answer. It may be the case that all the brothers/sons are not paedophiles at all but just opportunists, the opportunity to have sex with the daughter presented and they acted on it but otherwise do not specifically or generally get aroused by children as a rule, hard to say though.

I feel it's quite a leap to label grown men willing to sexually abuse their own grandchildren, children, neices and nephew as "opportunists." Based on the direction of the ivestigation, it most likely did not stop there and I'm willing to bet they created their own "opportunities" with other children over the years.

I think it is also worth considering the fact that RAPISTS who rape females are NOT raping them because they simply desire to have sex with a female, it is normally about power and domination, it is the power and domination that arouses them not the female per se. I am wondering if the same could be said about paedophiles, are they really aroused by children or is it the act of dominating an otherwise helpless being that arouses them. This is a great group of people as I have noted before it is rare on a discussion forum that we can have these types of heated discussions and passionate disagreements in a civil manner and we have all accomplished that here this evening and that is a great thing and something to be proud of.


I agree with you on the above and I also agree the odds would be astronomical that all 4 of his sons were born paedophiles so this does lend credence to the idea that they learned this behavior.

I have been trying to determine when the son sold this property according to this it would have been around 1999-2000. FWIW...Trying to figure out a time frame for any missing children around the time from 1974 - 1999..

and an EMT connection. Could you send me a link to the grandmothers obit? I know this case has to do with the abuse of children and it may be far fetched to even relate it to Star Boomer but it is nagging at me. She was a single mother with a young son.

I can understand that and I apologize if this has all bothered you, but I do think this is a very important discussion, I think it is crucial that we try and understand these people so that we can prevent it from continuing to happen, simply locking them up and turning a blind eye to it really doesnt do anyone any good.

Also I dont think we as a society have a right to simply "put people away for good" IF there is a possibility that they can be helped and rehabilitated. Such an attitude may have worked in Nazi Germany but I would hate to see Americans adopt such a way of dealing with those who make mistakes, locking people up is a very serious thing and all consideration needs to be given before that action is taken.
