The brother of one of the sisters, did report finding some jars with notes in them. But he reburied them on the property and told authorities that they should still be on the property.

is mult-generational incestuous abuse.

Respectfully snipped

And this is sometimes the worst possible form of abuse. Multi Generational abuse.

Running in the family, learned behaviour, and passed on to kids growing up. Noone in the family thinks twice about it, because it all seems natural to them.....

The cycle can be broken, with someone who understands and cares as well as intensive therapy.

I am doing this now, in my own life, to break this cycle!

jjenny--I'm just repeating what the media has reported about Mr. Sowell's home. Yes, I understand the neighborhood stunk. But I read that Mr. Sowell's property was one of the neatest on the block and that he was quite friendly to neighbors. My point is that these murders went on for years while everyone seemed to be looking at the sausage company as the source of the smell. I think it's actually a very good analogy for what's going on in Bates City. Look at what Phillip Garrido got by with by acting like a religious nutcase!! JMO

From CBS News:

Cleveland police continue to find horrors in the home of Anthony Sowell. In addition to four more bodies found buried in his backyard, investigators found a skull wrapped in paper in a bucket in the basement. Police are now expanding their search of Sowell's neighborhood and his neatly kept home where more bodies may yet be found. So far, the parts of 11 bodies in total have been discovered in the basement, buried in the backyard, in an upstairs living room and in a crawl space.

Oh, Texas Mist, I wish I could say I've never seen them but I have. One of our sons (who is a survivor...well, working on it, I guess) came home from school one day with a grocery sack full of these magazines. We immediately called the police and it turned out that a friend of his (in his special ed class) had found his father's stash.

The police were very interested in the find and carefully logged the entire stash. The two boys didn't get in much trouble (our son was suspended from school for a week as he had them on school grounds) but I do think the police took a long and hard look at the dad.

I still remember going through them. I was so shocked and couldn't get over the fact that these even existed. My husband made me put them down and stuffed them under my desk until the police came for them. There were also magazines named "Barely Legal" which floored me. All the models looked about 14 but there were disclaimers throughout the pages which stated that "all models have been verified to be over the age of 18". Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.

"I don't know ONE single person with an INCEST magazine -- WTF?!!! This is SICK."

Texas Mist--I don't think people leave these out on the coffee table. I would have never known, either, if I hadn't seen them--up close and personal. You can't "unsee" stuff like that.

I'm no prude & thought I'd heard of just about everything -- but a friggin' incest magazine is new to me! I should have known tho -- the whole "there's something for everybody" mentality. ugh. I wanna hurl.

I'm sorry you had to see that vile stuff. You've been thru enough w/o having to endure that.

((hugs))

Just wanted everyone to know that I was indeed banned for a few days last week, a lot of people PMing me wanting to know what happened, long story short it was a misunderstanding and I contacted Tricia and we talked on the phone and I sent some proof to verify and clear up the confusion so she would know who I am and that I mean well and so I am back and all is well!

Yes the man is supposed to be buried in the backyard.
Since he supposedly was a big man, one would think it shouldn't be too hard to find the body buried in the backyard (if any of this actually happened).

I would think they could take the kids back and have them point out the area the man was buried in and also where they buried the notes. I wonder why they don't do this?

Salem--There's actually a large number of people who won't shop at Amazon due to their pornography policy. Something to think about.

And concerning getting the victims to help point out places to dig, my guess is that the victims are in hiding, like Jaycee, and are not yet ready for prime time. Thinking back on my own childhood, I can't imagine how hard it would be to describe exactly where something was hidden for twenty years. And who knows if it has been moved.

I still am a little perplexed by the comments in the search warrant of the brother searching for glass jars several years ago. What did he tell the current home owner? Why would he go looking...to prove to himself that his sisters were telling the truth? I thought that he'd witnessed some of the abuse. If he found the jars, why would he bury them again?

So many questions. My heart goes out to LE trying to chase this thing down with the media and the world breathing down their neck.

It would seem like a good idea to take them back. If A body was moved after the buried it then they wouldnt have a way to prove that het happened. The box in the crawl space seems like the most likely way to prove the abuse occured so I hope get it out of the ground and can do dna on the baby.

I would suggest it is a little late to be in hiding. Prime time is here and they started it and its now time to find the evidence to support their allegations or issue retractions.

Those making the accusations should have been taken to the property day one and made to show where these bodies and jars were buried.

It may be the case they were already taken there, we do not know, but they havent found anything yet that we are aware of.

My brain is starting to spin a bit. I thought we all understood that the abuse took place from the mid 80s-mid 90s. Then, of course, there's the "friend" saying that the Mohler female was approached a month ago. But AM (the victims paternal grandmother) lived until 1991. She definitely might have been very ill will cancer but where were the other women? I'm very confused about the four boys' wives, including the victims' mother, and their whereabouts. If my math is correct, they would have been in their 20s and possibly were married with children. We know that David is married and has two children the same age as the victims.

The family tree shows AM dying in 12/91 and Burrell Sr. marrying SM in 10/92. That was mighty quick. Where was SM? I read an article that said they divorced and she moved to SD, refuses to comment. I linked it somewhere on the 1st thread IIRC. Sr. has only been married twice, correct? She would have been step-grandma. Wasn't there a comment that Burrell Sr. sold the Bates City house around that time? Maybe he took his new bride and moved her away from the house of horrors.

And I can't figure out this statement from the Search Warrant:

"In an interview on November 4, 2009, XXXX stated that she recalled her daughters asking if they had another sister that did not reside with the rest of the family. XXXX provided a photograph of the crawl space inside the former Mohler residence."

Whom did they interview? J.C. - 1st wife of Jr. I linked that a couple of pages back. I'm assuming this would be Burrell Jr.'s wife, the victims' mom. Yes Why would she have a photograph of a crawl space? Does that strike anyone as awfully strange. Is this the same woman who all the "commenters" on Topix are called the "vindictive ex-wife"? If this woman actually knew about the abuses and a girl living in the crawl space, isn't she culpable in some way?

Answers?

Missizzy - I'm having similar questions to yours. Has it been determined when JC and Jr divorced? Because the questions you are asking have been bothering me since this started. The only thing I can think of is the kids were staying at the farm without their mother, either from separation before the divorce or summer vacations or custody arrangement after the divorce - of course it could have been happening right under her nose and she didn't notice it, perhaps her noticing it is what precipitated the divorce? From what I understood, only one other brother was married during this time so perhaps they did not live close enough or the mother didn't leave the children at the farm?? Stay at home mom? Better sense??? In my family, I don't think they molested all the kids, only certain ones, mind you I can't verify that. I've always wondered what the basis for that was, but I think there was some "favoritism" going on. Perhaps there were some they didn't feel they could intimidate into keeping quiet?? Don't know. One thing I've been considering is that they felt these kids were "open season" because they didn't like the mother and knew she was on her way out....as far as the picture about the crawlspace, maybe mom took the picture because she knew one day she would need it for proof?

Found it:
"FOX 4 attempted to contact the ex-wife of Burrell Mohler, Sr. Neighbors say that she has remarried and has relocated to South Dakota."

I never even HEARD of 'Family Taboo' & 'Best of Family Secrets..' magazines -- WTF??

I've had friends who found Playboy magazines under the bed in their parents bedroom but NOTHING like 'Family Taboo'

Amazon.com: Family Taboos - April 1990: Digest-Sized Adult Magazine Full of Incest Stories: Editors of Family Taboos: Books

sooo - it appears that SOMEone was interested in incest.

I don't know ONE single person with an INCEST magazine -- WTF?!!! This is SICK.

The news reporters need to start calling these crimes what they are - and that is mult-generational incestuous abuse.

I've yet to see 'incest' in one online article. It is at the root of the abuse, but is too sickening for media to acknowledge & call it what it is.

It's a wonder the vics/survivors ever spoke up.

I just wanted to tell you ....you THINK you don't know a single person with an incest magazine. The truth is...you NEVER know. Obviously, there's a market for this sort of stuff....shivver........

Disgusting isn't it? Michael Jackson also had "Barely Legal" among other disgusting twisted magazines and "art" books coveted and collected by pedophiles.

Yes Linda. But he still has his own forum right here because ya know, he was only accused, not convicted... He just loved children and was a wonderful, kind, benevolent man - yeah, right.

<snip>

LEXINGTON, Mo. -- After five members of the Mohler family appeared in court on more than 20 counts of child sex charges, family members urged the public not to rush to judgement.
.....

The relatives also said the allegations are hard to believe, because Burrell Mohler Sr.'s late wife Alice would not have let it happen.

"Believe me, if these things happend when Alice was alive, she would have been on top of it and stopped it," Ron Gamble said. "She was very straight and religious."

<snip>

BATES CITY, Mo. — On a dead-end dirt road, through frosted crops and bales of hay in this sleepy town about a half-hour east of Kansas City, state investigators spent much of last week excavating the yard around a farmhouse, looking for decades-old evidence of sex crimes against children.

....

Family and friends of the Mohlers are questioning the reliability and validity of such memories, which legal experts also debate.

The authorities, though, say they have physical evidence to back up at least some of the claims. Five siblings of the 26-year-old woman, four girls and a boy, have also come forward with similar accounts of abuse, law enforcement officials say.

....

“The charges seem to be so absurd, they’re unbelievable,” said Robert Bruch, a friend and former employer of the elder Mr. Mohler. “Everybody’s in total shock.”

....

A spokesman for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Sgt. Collin Stosberg, pressed on the question of “recovered” memories leading to criminal charges, said, “We feel like we have enough evidence, otherwise we wouldn’t have gotten to this point.”
