Did the Land Rover guy kill himself last night? I keep hearing differing things.
There was an unconfirmed rumor that someone shot themself last night. I don't believe this has been substantiated by any reliable source. The rumor originated from a neighbor's statement.

yes, i dont think anyone ever confirmed whether or not things were stolen
Agreed, there are many aspects of this case that LE has not released.

Very disappointing about no arrests! I stayed up past my bedtime following the case last night, as I know lots of you did too.

Question: they hauled in an SUV. Is that still being examined as evidence, or is that dismissed too?

Serious question, is it too much to expect LE/FBI to hold a presser? There was and continues to be huge, worldwide attention from last night, I think it would help for them to clarify and provide some clear information to avoid any more speculation around what happened and why no arrests
LE/anyone tries to avoid a press conference to say “we messed up”. If they didn’t detain anyone and they were basically released at the scene or soon after, it sounds like a tip that went amuck. I sympathize with the pressure they are under and obviously there is no way to approach suspects w/o this cadre of support but looks like better research beforehand would be the order of the day.
They didn’t do ANY real research about the guy in Rio Rico to rule him out going by how fast he was released. How much time did they spend trying to say this last group WASN’T viable as suspects vs WAS???
When you are under pressure you can react in detrimental ways just as positive ones.

Thank you. My feelings are all over the place right now and it make’s me sympathize for the Guthrie family. I cannot imagine what they are going through.
I know right? We all get caught up in every lead with hopes of an arrest and the location of NG. I can barely imagine the roller coaster ride her children, family and friends are on following a positive break in the case to have it all come crashing down. JMO

Wouldn't today be a great day for a Press Conference!
I feel one is LONG overdue.

We don't need a press conference when we have a perfectly good information vacuum to generate our news:

Some random who liked a post on instagram is discovered to look very much like a sketch artist's guess at what the evil armed bandit might look like, so he's assumed to be guilty of kidnapping and God knows what else, he subsequently has to shut down his social media and go into hiding.

Some other random tells the press that three people were detained, but one of them first tried to flee the police, crashed his car into a tree, shot himself in the head and died, and then was detained afterwards.

On the plus side, it probably takes the heat off poor Carlos the delivery driver.

There was also a news story with the same title, but when I clicked on the link, it gave me a 404 error.

Dropping this here as seems to be some confusion on thread wrt someone being detained (detention) vs. arrested, which are two different things/meanings.
Snipped from link and BBUM:

“An officer's "brief and cursory" holding and questioning of someone is a detention. An example is a cop stopping someone who is behaving suspiciously in order to ask a few questions. The suspect isn't free to leave, but he also isn't under arrest, at least until the officer develops probable cause. Another common example is an officer pulling over a driver for some kind of traffic or equipment violation.”

An arrest, on the other hand, involves the police taking someone into custody through a more significant restraint on movement. The quintessential example involves the use of handcuffs and an advisement that the suspect is under arrest.”

“Investigatory stops (or "detentions") must be no longer than necessary and officers must investigate with the least intrusive means that are reasonably available.”

What if someone paid the initial $50000 from the TMZ ransom yesterday, and the receiver immediately used it to purchase the Land Rover. Maybe was trying to dispose of the evidence when pulled over. And the employee of the car dealership was taken for questioning to get information about the purchaser. I’m not sure if the timeline adds up, but just a thought.

I am confused, but maybe some of you can help. What do you have to have for a search warrant? I was under the impression you had to have something more than just a lead? It blows my mind that you send that many things as last night, ME, multiple forensics, two SWAT teams, to end with the nothing. This is two major operations now and no arrests? It seems odd.

I think the media need to stay out of this. They create chaos and false hope

It is hard to believe they sent that many people and CSI to the location and nothing resulted from it. I mean, that was a huge amount of force and investigators.
Same situation as Rio Rico but this time area was close enough for more 2nd wave (after SWAT). Should spend more time researching who they are going in after IMO. Doing this and coming up basically empty just makes them seem more incompetent.

this is the point of a well organized press conference

I’m not asking to handle the DNA. I’m saying that government agencies can upload the DNA into the genealogy sites , and those of us genealogy detective volunteers can make family trees for the matches at distant cousin levels and narrow it down through cM’s and % of DNA and other matches. It’s tedious but doable with volunteers from all over the world. The unknown DNA that needs to be figured out can even be given the name Jane Doe etc.
Right now they have no way of knowing if that DNA is in any way connected to a CRIME. They can’t upload information w/o some warranted basis to attach random DNA to a suspected crime.

Yes. I understand that officers do search warrants and leads daily without all of the equipment this outfit seems to use. I think ultimately I just don't understand.

There is a lot of misinformation, suicide has nothing to do with this case. The police have not confirmed this.

My apologies for not putting the link in the first time. I edited the post with the link for Brian Entin who I quoted from his video on X and youtube.
