AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

Somebody upthread posted a link to a ex-FBI or LE person with expertise with blood and sputum, and that person spoke confidently about some of the blood being sputum. There was a discussion last night on this forum with the link, too.

Another poster posted recently that there is somewhere on this website where we can put a word or words such as "Sputum" and look at posts mentioning that word.
I agree they appear to be passive blood drops as she stood at the front door area bleeding. There is what appears to me to be a projected/impact spatter to the right of the mat - meaning a force coming in to contact with an already actively bleeding source. Although, it is possible that it could be aspirated blood from a couch or sneeze while actively bleeding. Hopefully LE tested that area to determine if there was air/mucus mixed in with the blood. Poor Nancy.
Yesterday on her podcast, The Nerve, Maureen Callahan was discussing Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance with Ashleigh Banfield.

Maureen said she read that the blood drops on the porch had been tested and the blood came from Nancy. Also that there was sputum mixed with it, that suggested it had come from her mouth or nose (as opposed to a cut on her arm, say).

Were Nancy’s clothes found at home where they should be? Were her nightclothes also found or was she apparently wearing the nightclothes?

tossing this out there:

What if she didn't uber from home but from another location? Does that change anything we're thinking?

Might explain why family didn't pick her up at home?

NG has been described as sharp as a tack. There’s no way I see NG opening that door after 10pm unless she absolutely knew who was on the other side.
Unless someone was banging on the door saying “ Nancy it’s ……,open the door !!!”

I still am not sure the blood is connected. As I mentioned earlier, there was no indication that it was processed as evidence-so maybe it’s not related? I mean they had to test it to find out it was NGs but it seemed pretty accessible to people taking the pictures. Also—I didn’t see blood smear/footprints that might have been expected if it was a forced removal of ng. I still wonder if she went to investigate the ring camera (eg if she received notice someone was at her door) though.

The porch blood was ok as a clue, but it did not look life threatening so could have been from abduction, or a completely different time.
Did LE ever say there was a lot of blood found inside? Enough blood for loss of life( even if cleaned they could find it).

How do you call a family member and say, "Your mom wasn't on the Zoom call for the service this morning"? That just seems odd to me. It's not as if it were a board meeting and she was the CEO of the company.

ETA: clarity
The person who called the family could have called or texted NG, having first noted her absence, and had no reply. That might have been unusual for NG – both the absence and the silence.

The family could also have called NG. The person from church could have been a friend who didn’t want to become public in this investigation.

It’s all speculation but since the FBI complaint against the hoaxer mentions the phone call, we can be reasonably sure that details of the call were verified.

Another random thought that occurred to me as I was washing dishes, and should absolutely be taken as an opinion:

It is possible to drive up to a house, open the garage, wait long enough to make it a reasonable task, and then close. We have, in the past, left the house, remembered something as we drove up to the corner, turned around, opened the garage, quickly grabbed whatever it is we forgot (usually the baskets for sorting groceries in the back of the car), and then closed and off we go again.

It's a theory: you can say "I dropped her off" and just driven by, stopped, opened the garage, waited a moment, and then driven off...

Opinion 100%

Shown or found? I don’t remember seeing any pictures of the crime scene. Can you share the link for that?

Regarding the blood, if I remember correctly, it has never been stated that the blood drops/splatter happened that night. She easily could have gotten a bloody nose earlier in the day, like when checking for the mail or waiting for the Uber (which that could be verified). Also, keep in mind, a bloody nose could look like a massacre just happened or it can just happened.
I will try and find it. I saw it early in the investigation the day of

I’m the one who posted about that. It’s not a verified fact.

Maureen Callahan mentioned it in her podcast *The Nerve*, talking to AB. She said that she had read that tests confirmed that the blood on the porch was NG’s, and that it contained sputum, as if it had come from a mouth or nose, as opposed from a cut on an arm, for example. This is not confirmed by any MSM source. I just mentioned it because no one else was talking about the blood on the porch, at that point.
So, she could have coughed and blood and sputum came out of her lungs (in theory)?

I live here and can’t imagine stepping outside in the dark. There are javelinas and coyotes all around. I have only opened the door, backed up, and let people inside.
Very good point. Plus she was a bright woman. I don't believe she would answer the door in the middle of the night.

Another thing in support of this is would the POTUS really get involved if this solely appeared to be a garden variety homicide with disposal of a body?
Yes, if someone important enough is involved. JFK's plane crash was a routine aviation accident and they sent the Navy looking for him. Literally almost anyone else on the planet would never have been found. I don't put Savannah in the same category as JFK Jr, but Trump is known for impulsive and kind gestures, as well as other things. He gave $10K to a bus driver who saved a suicidal woman just as one example.

Personally, I think any President who hears that a high profile journalist's Mom has perhaps been kidnapped is going to privately tell his staff to make things happen. It's a great opportunity to have a friendly presser in their pocket. Trump just did it publicly.

I yoyo back and forth. I was leaning family involved a few days ago with the ransom being totally separate and a scammer, now I lean towards more validity of the ransom and the kidnapper being affiliated with one another. Though I can't make logic of the kidnapping and ransom angle, I have to just accept understanding on what kidnappings for ransom are 'typically' needs to be thrown out the window in this case. How LE and FBI are acting, Susannah implying on the most recent video she will pay, and the FBI continuing to put up missing persons billboards (all the way in Houston, even, mentioned earlier in this thread), makes it sound like there is at least some plausibility to this.

Timeline fogginess and unwillingness to clear TC gives me pause, because at this point, if it's not ransom note writer, many seem to think it's TC. Anything I say about possible TC/AG involvement is just me speculating, trying to look for possible solutions that could explain inconsistencies. As a teacher myself, accusations he is currently facing online in part (imo) thanks to AB could be devastating for his career even if he's cleared. I've seen speculation it's a ruse to put the true kidnapper at ease but even an implication he's possibly involved will haunt him professionally, we are under so much scrutiny every day and many a parent would be worried about him teaching their children. At the same time, I'm horrified to think of someone I consider a fellow peer could carry out a crime like this, even if it was (I stress this, theoretically) in a moment of extremely rash anger. One of the grades he reportedly teaches (6th) requires a remarkable amount of patience, compassion and good humor to be successful. It's hard of me to fathom, even though I know sometimes the people you least expect can be responsible for horrible things. I would hope that Pima County investigators would understand the severity of all that, and would make it their top priority to clear TC first and soon after publicly. So them not doing so, even if I have some questions about their investigating methods, makes me think there has to be something there, even if we're not personally privy to it. I don't think he would have the capability of setting up these ransom notes anyways with how much scrutiny he is probably under, unless he has an accomplice, which then carries this into the realm of premeditation.

All of this is JMO, of course. If you had to make me pick right now, I'd probably say kidnappers are real and wrote the note. But, I think there still has to be something that prevents LE from clearing TC, or its otherwise pure incompetence, and I'm hoping for NG and her family's sake it's not that. (Sorry for the rambling, it's late here)
I appreciate your insight. I realize the scrutiny teachers are under in this era. But I hadn't considered the temperament needed to sustain that career nowadays or with the unique challenges in teaching that grade-level. Thanks for sharing and for doing what you do!

They know when the Uber dropped her off at AG for dinner and games, and more than likely the drop off back at her house is verified by electronics (the garage door opening, AG, maybe even AG car electronics).
Not really verified that she was dropped off back at the house. Rather it was verified that someone was there, but not necessarily NG.

Agree. She wasn't dumb. Someone maybe banging at the door that she knew. Told her there was an emergency. The maybe grabbed her hard and her skin ripped and she dripped blood or she was punched in the nose.

Like many of you, I don't think this was a kidnapping per se... an (eventual) murder and taking her to kill her elsewhere and dump the body.

IF it was for inheritance, I think the body would have been easier to spot and not burried or hidden.

WILL WE EVER FIND OUT WHO DID THIS???

Ran inside to leave a phone, for example?

Does anyone know whether the ransom deadline is EST or PST?

If I am not mistaken, on the first video of the front porch, where the blood is visible, there is a small Amazon pouch tucked into the corner across from the door on the right side.

My recall might be faulty. Our cameras point at the person who comes to the door, and at their back so we can see if packages have been left where we've designated for drop off.

Opinions with a smattering of "is this fact? Please verify?"
when Amazon. delivers they normally take a photo. Assume LE has gotten that.
