AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

Going backwards a bit because I have just been lurking here and not posting, the weirdest thing to me from the beginning of this, as just a person with a close family and older grandparents around Nancy's age, is that she was brought back to the house, apparently, at almost 10pm (after arriving over four hours earlier at 5:30ish). I know people have different schedules, etc. but MOST people that age are in their home, if not in bed, by that time. It's just a biological thing for most older people. [Edit for details: They like to get into their Pjs, wash up, take out dentures ha, and sit in front of the Tv for a bit to wind down before going to bed].

We have my grandparents over for dinner often and it's usually a 5:30pm ish pickup, with a 7-8pm at the LATEST return home, we go in and make sure the temperature in the home is good if it's winter, that the lights are on, etc. No we don't have to do that/they would be fine on their own, but I think most people can attest to similar with older relatives, especially if they're not the best on their feet. Late at night they are usually tired.

So that stood out to me from the JUMP as a detail for a casual (four hour) family dinner down the road. The late return from dinner at the sister's... If she was dropped off at almost 10pm for most people that's not bed until 10:30. Which again is pretty late for an older person especially if she goes to church in the morning.
It stood out for me straight away, too - elderly people usually don't want to be out late at night and that's why you'd rather do a lunch than a dinner if they were invited. Unless she is hooked on mahyong and didn't worry about lateness.

His background was posted early on, when some were curious about AG and her spouse. We didn't know much about them and their social media was still open.
His name sure sounds Italian to me

My parents (around 84) are often out after 10. They go to parties, weddings, balls, Broadway plays, swim meets or even some baseball games- all which keep them out after 10. My mom was at a Mardi Gras parade tonight and didn't get back until after 10. They are in their 80s, not on their death beds! They would probably be offended by everyone saying it's weird for 80 year olds to stay out until 945 for dinner and games 😂 I will ask my mom tomorrow.
I'm 69 and it's all day and night for me. I think only physical limitations will slow my down. (Bad eye site or something like that)
I'm up all hours. And if I'm hungry and no food, I hop in my car and head toward the nearest 24 hour food. (Selection not as good as pre-Covid, but I'm certainly able to find a few 24 hour joints). Now hubby, he's in bed at 10:30, but that was his bedtime 40 years ago too.

I've been lurking and watching this unfold, but something caught my eye I haven't seen anyone mention yet. (If I'm doing this wrong I do apologize)

While watching the Fox True Crime Live Stream Feb 6th @ 1:21:32 mark, I noticed a decrepit looking, but may be fairly stable treehouse perfectly hidden and could give a good visual over NG home. Again I'm not sure if I'm doing this right, but I just snipped from the Live Stream. Seems interesting, if it was someone they would have a view and survey over time on NG.

Also, if this has been mentioned already, sorry about that.. hard to keep up I didn't notice if so.

Some have mentioned this structure, but this is the best photo I've seen.

This has actually been talked about here. People have mentioned a chicken or rabbit coop, a well enclosure, pool equipment, and a tree house (my guess). Home was bought in 1975, could have been for the kids.

I have thought the same thing about Nancy. She’s 84. If she did survive this, what would the rest of her life look like for her and for her children? It would just be the most bizarre ending to their lives- even if they all try to return to normal. There can be no more normal after this, regardless of the outcome. So very sad. For all of them.
People can be amazingly resilient. People thrive after trauma every day. It doesn't have to define them. MOO

It been a week since Nancy Guthrie was last seen. She joined family for dinner before returning home at night, not to be heard from since.

Investigators are still trying to make sense of what happened to the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie.

Here's what we know, six days into the investigation into her disappearance.

One week.

.Maybe Nancy didn't usually stay out so late, but it was her birthday celebration after all.

Oh was it? That definitely changes things. I didn't hear that reported.

First time commenting but been a lurker for a long time. This reminds me of the Daniel Stisliski and Gannon Stauch cases. In both of those the police knew way more then they released. Hard to see this family being just defeated

I noticed watching futher on, it's a treehouse, seemed to have a few things inside it, not entirely sure what, but this could be possibly a lookout without being noticed.

You can just make out the pole upper-left, and sink? inside it, I watched the FBI go under it but never looked up, possibly couldn't see it? It was getting dark by that time.

It looks like a good hiding place.

I wonder if it's actually on her property? It looks like there's a brick wall adjacent to the guest house (?) and extending in front of the foliage.

Does anyone think it's odd that none of NG's friends have spoken out? At least that I've seen. Like her friends from church, the neighborhood, etc.? Or that recent video of her wasn't released in order to ID her (there were just photos).

My friend thought which is why I'm asking. I didn't even think about that to be honest.

I don't think so, but four hours is a long time for that, again based on my family- theirs could be different. But it would matter getting settled into the house at night comfortably, yes I think so.

Also, just to more info since we're really getting into this question! The average person in their mid eighties goes to bed between 7 and 8pm, according to studies online. So I don't think it's out of the ordinary for many to think it's odd she was out until almost 10pm for a casual dinner. It sounds like your parents are an exception which is truly lovely!

Maybe you go to bed that early in a nursing home but not necessarily if you are still independent.

This whole rigamarole just doesn’t make sense to me if it was family - people trip and fall and get injured and succumb to their injuries, and that would be so much less suspicious if they were trying to premeditate a death. If it was an accident/heat of the moment situation, this still seems a very complicated way of covering it up. And then the ransom thing - real or a red herring…it seems like it doesn’t fit either.

Thank you! But is that the ONLY time during the day it opened/closed? If she left that way for the Uber, it would have had to have opened/closed then, too. Again, just a thought.
Uber picks us up and drops us off at our front door. They like to stay on the road/not go down our driveway, so she may not have exited from garage for uber.

Still haven’t found anything confirming location of where her phone was found. The news nation article says her watch, car and phone were all found at her home. That doesn’t say phone was found IN the home or IN the car and listing it next to car further adds more uncertainty…

I don’t think much of it makes sense, family or not.

This has to be one of the strangest cases I’ve heard of.

Sorry, I haven't been able to read every post, is it correct that a pacemaker can continue to send a signal even if someone has passed away? My google search says yes it can, but just checking as I know there are some on here who had alot of knowledge in this area

What we don't even know is the condition that Nancy G has. Is it afib, or A-V node block, or runs of ventricular tachycardia.

Depending on it, the type of the pacemaker used is different. Some pacemakers have to be in constant connection with the local EMT station, for others, periodic interrogation is enough.

So until we know what condition NG has, it is difficult to discuss. Regular pacemakers for afib probably just collect data on the device that are checked monthly or so.

If it is a pacemaker/defibrillator, then, indeed, there has to be a constant connection to the network, because what if it has delivered a defibrillating voltage? Then EMT gets a signal, and a car is sent out.

What i want to say: with certain types of arrhythmias, the device does not "send" any signal in real time and in fact, the data from the phone are analyzed only during visits to a doctor. But we don't know NG's situation.

But yes, the device does not "die" with the body.

Still catching up… I wonder. If you release a scene, who do you (and everyone else) expect to be there that’s not immediately suspicious? The family. But what if someone you expect to be there does something suspicious? You could get that on camera…
Good thinking….
