I agree it likely relates to the layout of the driveways and entrances. My thoughts on opening the garage door... if someone is dropping me off at home, I would walk in through my front door. If I'm not parking a vehicle in the garage its not likely I'm opening that door. Do people really do this? Maybe it just makes more sense with the layout of her house. Was it opened because someone knew there would be a record of it being opened?

Also, at our house we always come in through the garage, We have a 'mud room' there where we can take off our shoes and hang up our coats. No pile of shoes at the front door. For some, no doubt, the front entrance enters directly into the living room. Not a place for muddy shoes, etc.
Everyone's set up and situation is different. Others have likely covered this topic better than me, but I know this is a long and fast-moving thread.
