Going to make a guess here based on those tiles being 12"x12". He's 5'10"- 6'1". Closer to 5'10" IMO.

Going off of:
Door slab width: approximately 36 inches
Door height: approximately 80 inches (6’8”)
Full door opening including sidelights: approximately 60–66 inches (5–5.5 feet)
Arch peak height: approximately 84–90 inches (7–7.5 feet)
Porch tile size: approximately 12” × 12
Porch depth (front to back): approximately 26–30 inches (about 2–2.5 feet)
Concrete sidewalk width: approximately 3.5–4 feet
Estimated individual height: approximately 5’10” to 6’1”

If a burgarly gone wrong, what's with the smashed lights in the backyard? That seems like overkill (and potentially noisy).

Every idea that is reasonable still doesn't fit.

At this point I'm considering it was done for the thrill of it and the motive won't be more than that. I think the ransom was a hoax by an opportunist. I'm NOT committed to this theory and remain firmly on the fence, but "no reason" for the crime might be the reason.

Imo I'm going with lights at that back blue door might be more visible to the neighbors looking say if their dogs barked..

Can a person tell if they're being recorded on a Nest? Maybe the surprise wasn't the camera itself but that it was working, when the guy had reason to believe it had been disabled. That's what the hand-to-the-lens made me think; a test to see if anything activated. When it did, the perp had to come up with a Plan B. Is that something you can tell by viewing the camera from the outside? (I know this is very "conspiracy theory-ish" as it would imply pre-planning with an inside source.)
yeah, one of my theories about putting the fist in front was that he was testing something. sort of a vibe I get. not sure what he'd be testing though. sensitivity? ...and why?

if he didn't have someone watching the feed (hacked or already inside the house) and talking to him, he might have gotten feedback from seeing what made the recording indicator light turn on. (assuming it has one?) the weird fist pose might have been a way to block the lens while seeing the light.

wondering now if they recovered audio with the video and if so what might be on it.

Very specific date. January 11. Was this the date a neighbor reported someone in his yard or could the tower dump have shown a cell phone being in the area on those 2 dates? I don’t have a link to the neighbors remark so I could be wrong on that. JMHO
Jan 11 was a Sunday.Would she normally be at her friends watching a church service during those times? I can’t picture a landscaper or pool guy coming on a Sunday. A delivery driver maybe.

I've been wanting them to put up tents when they work. I think they read my comments about it.

Or least before the video was released to the public. imo
Or even yesterday?? Why now? Have they got the DNA off the gloves? Has the maintenance workers etc DNA samples come back?

Has anyone here compared the single photo of suspect without the backpack and holster to the videos and still of them wearing both? The shoes look a bit different. It almost seems like there’s a black strip on the shoes of the suspect without the backpack that I don’t seem to notice on the suspect that actually walks up to the door.
I noticed this too. In the pic with the backpack/gun, they look like light colored athletic shoes with black on the tread and toes. In the other pic, the shoes look light with a black collar. Looks like same guy, 2 different nights IMO

To be fair, it’s not common for data to be recovered from the cloud for cloud-only cameras without subscriptions.

If he knew that NG didn’t pay the subscription for cloud storage, he’d have assumed that, by the following day, the footage would be gone. Same thing if he assumed that the camera was recording to internal storage – taking the camera would make the footage inaccessible.

He turned out to be wrong, obviously, but I think the recovery of the cloud data surprised more than a few people.
I think the FBI arranged to get the camera images, because of the giant media coverage of this case. Not normally available, to a “regular” victims family.

Could they be matching the DNA on the porch to the DNA on the gloves found yesterday?

I'm beginning to wonder if it is someone in her family ?????
I think everything released draws away from that theory, in the beginning that would be where one would default I would think esp. given last with SIL, but now there is additional information that seems to direct away from this. jmo

I hope that explains it. Just wish the crime scene had been cordoned off from the beginning.

Great thinking. They now have the video of the suspect at NG home. At that front door. This is a treasure trove of information they just got this week. I also suspect (like many) that what the FBI has from the extracted video was not all released to the public. IMO
I agree. I think they have more than they're letting on. They can't release too many details because they need to weed out the credible tips from the bored weirdos. For all we know they did find DNA in the home, they just don't have a match yet.

Wonder if they interviewed all people from the bar the SIL stopped at? They may be aware he is related to Nancy and monitored her actions. Maybe someone had been thinking about this for awhile and SIL might have mentioned he just dropped her off.
Again, I'll ask. Where is the info on the Bar? I have not heard that. Can you link.

It really is strange watching some of the activities of LE and the FBI at this stage in the investigation. They are doing things that IMO would typically be done in the first few days. Not even activities that would need to be based on any lead, just standard leg work prioritised early.

I don't want to talk negatively about LE, I know they have a tough job and have to manage their resources. But I wonder what happened in the first week Nancy was missing, why the lack of containment of the crime scene, why it took a member of the public to identify the roof camera, why neighbours weren't spoken to as a priority (well, they may

The entire case should have been turned over to the FBI, this was far too big for the Sheriff's Dept to handle.
Brian Entin interviewed a retired Sheriff’s Dept officer. He felt the case has been botched from the beginning and blamed the Sheriff’s huge ego. He said the Sheriff would not relinquish much of the investigation to the FBI; the Sheriff’s investigators have only been hired in the last few years and limited expertise; stated it was laughable that the Sheriff rushed out to Rio Rico to be out front if they made an arrest of the Door Dash guy - said Sheriff should remain in the office to coordinate the investigation, etc. Obviously the retired officer had nothing good to say about Sheriff Nanos.

It's not common for it to be recovered, and it can be overwritten at any time - depending how the db structured it could be quickly. However, anyone with a passing familiarity of data storage would know anything cloud based is still potentially recoverable until over written. I've been in IT for a couple of decades and walking in front of that camera is not a risk I'd be willing to take. Even if I knew they hadn't paid the subscription, I have no idea how quickly the sector would be over written.

If they were tech savvy they could have jammed the wifi before approaching the camera. It's illegal but that wouldn't bother someone who plans on kidnapping or killing someone after breaking in. Heck, if they were more tech savvy they'd have spraypainted the camera before staring into it!

Hopefully this case will act like a PSA to people to keep their subscriptions active and to not rely on easily accessible cameras for security. These doorbell cameras are great for notifications and such but decent security cameras which aren't easily visible with onsite storage with cloud backups are far better.

JMO but my money is on the perp not having any background in tech.

True! I believe same. Also, wasn’t it said that she had inside cameras? Going on memory only.
