In the article I was reading off-site, it was stated that the Sheriff effectively shut out the FBI from the case and is not sharing information. This is outrageous if true, but I will treat it as speculation. Other local LE have commented that he is on an ego trip and that is why he is the only spokesperson and doing his one-on-one interviews with the media.

In any case, this is not the best look in such a high profile investigation. MOO

I tend to think that’s probably the case because it seems like PCSD and FBI are conducting two totally separate investigations.

It’s shocking to me that LE is able to freeze out the FBI. I think FBI has jurisdiction over ransom and kidnapping across state lines. But not burglary or murder…. Which does make me wonder if PCSD isn’t considering the ransom notes/kidnapping legit but FBI is.

Like you said, regardless of what’s happening internally, not a good look.

I don't think that's necessarily what happened here though. I think whomever did this could've been so obsessed by being digitally anonymous for the ransom demand and not leaving any identifiable evidence at the crime scene that he forgot to focus on the fundamentals of the crime itself - 1. Maintain the hostage 2. Get paid.

If being roughly handled and not having her meds triggered a critical medical episode, they have no way to provide proof of life. So, now they have to come up with an alternate way to deliver the ransom demand. It seemed odd from the beginning that they didn't intend to remain in contact. But maybe not so odd if they already know they can't provide proof of life. So they make one last ditch effort to get a payoff. Or maybe several, if you include the weird offers of information for smaller bitcoin amounts. MOO

The crime scene tape came down the next day if I recall, and the media were allowed to walk all over the scene unabated. Even up to the front door.
That contaminated the blood spatter, the door mat and the entire area with their own cast off DNA. Consequently, there was no going back for more samples, analysis or evidence seeking.

I can't comment on specifics, but apart from photographing the spatter, and taking some swabs, what else would we expect them to do with the pathway?

I don't know if anything was overlooked, but in general I am not surprised that obvious stuff is documented, sampled and then the scene released, even within a matter of hours.

Considering the multiple searches that were redone at NGs (including removing the other camera from the roof), it seems the house wasn’t initially processed/documented to the extent it should’ve been. MOO

The lack of recent progress in the probe into Savannah Guthrie's mother's kidnapping may mean that investigators soon scale back their resources, sources with knowledge of the case told ABC News Friday.

A lawyer representing a convicted felon said his client and his client's mother were briefly detained as part of the Nancy Guthrie investigation.

Luke Daley, 37, and his mother, who is 77, were detained and had their house searched on Feb. 13, according to his lawyer, Chris Scileppi. Their home is about 2 miles from Guthrie's.

Chris Scileppi confirmed Daley -- who has served time in state prison on drug-related charge -- was the target of the operation by the FBI and Pima County Sheriff's Department but reiterated neither Daley nor his mother were arrested and said they have no link to Guthrie.

Daley was the second person detained for questioning and released after a deliveryman who identified himself as Carlos was stopped earlier in the investigation. ABC News has previously reported investigators are leaning away from both men as possible suspects

Came here this morn to say exactly the same thing. Now I feel that is what happened. A target of Savanah Guthrie's mother. A news 'celeb', hence ransom note originally to TMZ. TMZ is all about celebrity people news and updates. Nancy did not make it for long at all, still tried to get the planned ransom that is stretched out as why not keep trying? I think that was the little delay in contacting TMZ, what to do, what to do. No sign of life. They might just go away, done. N.G just not delivered or told where she is for sure, what's it to them at this point, they see no ransom coming their way.
Maybe someone will 'talk' for the reward, but also in great fear for their own life if they do. IMO

As someone who has listened to every true crime podcast known to man I can say half of cases are solved by dedicated LE working hard behind the scenes for years and half are cases where LE dropped the ball in some way. I choose to believe complaining about PCSD is nothing but whining at this stage and does nothing to forward the investigation. Especially since we have no idea what’s being done. No idea. Media grasps for any story including stories against the Sheriff. Don’t let yourselves be manipulated. Fringe Media always wants your fear and outrage. JMOO.

I tend to agree with this theory, makes no sense to go to the front door unless you were expecting someone on other side to open for you. Or you had opened it from inside already.

I listened to Gray Hughes today and he had similar theory as yours.

He's never had to deal with a case like this before, and from what I have seen/heard, he is very political, which is not helpful Turf wars should be avoided at all costs. He's used to having his way, and frankly, it is his job, but I wish he'd play nice with those who have more experience and more advanced, faster tools. He needs a public relations advisor.

Yes, fortunately, cases like this are not common. I greatly sympathize with him on that. I have no doubt that he wants to find NG and solve this case. Not everyone can handle a situation like the one Nanos finds himself in right now.

The glare of the press is blinding and I would not be someone who patiently juggled questions I have no intention of answering when I needed to be somewhere else. I admire those that can do that under stressful conditions. You're right. The man desperately needs a public relations advisor, and/or a PIO. Someone who can give updates a few times a day, but not be expected to know every little thing about the case and definitely knows what questions NOT to answer. Our local PD has a good one. He used to be a reporter, so he can anticipate what's coming and firmly tell them something is off limits without whining or being a jerk.

Whether it's fair or not, the fact that I just googled "Sheriff Nanos" and 5 out of the first 7 articles returned were headlines about his decisions and his ego, certainly indicates the coverage has crystalized around his competence, and that's never a good situation to be in. MOO

The thing that bothers me in this case is that it had a high likelihood of a quick resolution.

She was reported missing extremely early, much earlier than we see in many cases.

The resources that were offered and made available were much greater than most cases.

Yet here we are and their seems to be very little traction in finding Nancy.

I hope dna can solve this case bc I think it’s the best hope.

The only other way I can see a resolution happening is someone turning the perp in, but a lot of times that can take years. Usually turned in by a spurned lover, former friend etc.

I really feel for the Guthrie family
