LE was informed that Nancy was missing at 12:03 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Nanos said his team processed the scene for about 20 hours.

That would mean LE had finished processing that scene Monday morning around 8:00 a.m. - If they worked overnight.
yes. In the Feb 2nd news conference, at around 9am local Arizona time, Nanos said they were done searching. They had searched all day Sunday and overnight.

DNA can be collected from a few cells these days, so even if he breathed on the weeds, the possibility is there that his DNA transferred. In any case, it is ridiculous that the weeds were not even collected for a cursory examination.
First, they didn't even have the lantana video for days. So why would anyone suspect a lantana branch as being rich in perp DNA? Secondly, you said "even if he breathed on the weed"..he was also inside the house. BREATHING. Do they swab every object for DNA? The random pink plate sitting on a shelf 2 feet up, for example? Quiet breathing leaves very little DNA. Coughing, sneezing can leave some saliva. By this line of thinking, everything in that house should have been catalogued, swabbed and sent for analysis. IMO, it just doesnt work that way. I think it's a judgement call. Considering the crime and time and NG probably being aroused from her bed, Items adjacent to her bed, for example, might have more foreign DNA than the ketchup bottle in her refrigerator. JMO

If the genealogy comes up empty, I don't know what's left. Nobody is willing to come forward and identify Lantana Man. If the physical evidence yields no leads, they're pretty much dead in the water.
I doubt it will come up empty. It just takes time. It can take years. They got lucky with BK. They also managed to catch the perp that was on a camera in Los Angeles who murdered a girl in Maryland. He was from El Salvador and had no ties to the US. It took about 18 months to apprehend him. It was quite an amazing story. I think his DNA was on file with LE in El Salvador. I think they identified him, but then they had to find him. He was found in Oklahoma.

Some families test more than other families. Some ethnicities are harder to trace, for instance familes with history of recent genocide (like mine) are dead-end past the second cousin, I have no idea how I'm related to a "third cousin" match because there are no records. Any records were 1/2 way around the world and destroyed 100 years ago. I have very few DNA matches from that side of the family.

The other side of the family which has been here since before the American Revolution, was easy to trace. My mom was an only child, so I had no first cousins from that side and we weren't particularly close to any of her relatives on that side. However, DNA quickly showed me quite an interesting family history etc.

I'm sure they already know the ethnicity of the DNA. I think though, they may not be sure that it's the perp's DNA. I think once they identify the person that the DNA belongs to, then they will surveil the person. If it happens to be xy or z and if the person fits a person that could have done this crime. For instance if the DNA turns out to be that of a little kid that used to visit the house, then it's a dead end.

I don't think they will come up empty with the DNA. Some DNA just takes time. We see it in numerous Doe cases. I follow the Doe DNA cases. They are very transparent about the progress of their cases. They include the GedMatch ethnicity admixture, the number of close matches and the amount of DNA shared with the closest match. They even release some surnames. Some sit there for years. Others are solved quickly like BK's.

A part of me wondered if maybe in one of the ransom notes the perp/s mentioned something really personal and threatening about one or all three of the siblings indicating that they have been stalking NG’s children and they may be in danger too. I thought maybe that, plus that awful man cruelly those fake ransom letters and contacting AG and her husband, the search warrant and paparazzi, may explain why they left AG’s at first or have seemed more excluded.

Perhaps too behind the scenes they have been doing their own investigation with the cops by going down memory lane, visiting old hiking trails NG went to, looking through all yearbooks, photo albums, emails, texts, photos, contacts and phone numbers, receipts and bills to see if they can find anyone who may have been known to her, was in her life but while their true selves and intent remained hidden because all along they were hers and theirs biggest threat.

I could be wrong and am just speculating of course but I agree with other posters who said they think the perp/s is enjoying the sense of power and control they have over the Guthries, LE, the media and the truth about what happened to NG.

It does make me wonder if that if anger, rage or revenge played a role or motive, like that really interesting investigator who specializes in kidnapping and ransoms mentioned before to BE, than maybe it wasn’t just against NG or SG but all four Guthries? Maybe he wanted power over them, to take something from them but why? Did he feel at one point that they had power over him or his family? Definitely not victim blaming but I wonder if he fixated and projected his anger and insecurities on them even when they did nothing wrong and this is how he will make them pay? That is awful though and only a thought but not a good one so my apologies.

I also wonder why now? Doing this heinous crime is heartbreaking and unfathomable as is and it makes me wonder if there is something about the timing that is significant. NG and her family have been living in Tucson for over 50 years. NG has lived alone for 6 I believe. Why target her at all and what carry out their plot that last weekend of the month? And why so much? Did the perp lose a job? Or are they homeless or something now? Have they targeted elderly victims or women or those who live alone before but now their crimes are escalating even further know?

I wonder if they even kept the same shoes, clothes and car they used to abduct poor NG? Or if because of the blood from NG’s injury and possible incriminating evidence now on them they threw the things out and put the car in a junkyard? It would probably look too suspicious to clean the vehicle out and the smell of blood can sometimes be strong. I wonder if there is a way to find out at the landfill or place where they dump old or seemingly dumped or abandoned cars? Still I hope NG is alive and find strength and hope in that her family and friends are never going to give up on her, like SG said. I know they just want to bring their mom home.

I feel for SG too. I read an article in which her coworker said SG blames herself for her mom being taken because she is rich and famous. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. The ones responsible, the only ones responsible, are vile criminals who took her. Their cruelty is not a reflection of NG, SG, CG or AT or the love and lives they lived. Rick of poor, door open or closed those perps had no right to NG, her children, her family or money. What they wanted have no jurisdiction over her home, property or ability to sleep safely and comfortably. If anyone should be going crazy it should be them for falling so slow to represent the worst of mankind in the cruelty and harm they caused NG, her family and community.

There is a difference between broke and broken as shown by the fact they had the power to break in, abduct and harm Nancy Guthrie before torturing her family with it, but they still don’t have enough to fix whatever damage they have within.

JMO/IMO sorry for the ramble
Good post.

Maybe I am missing something but what exactly is the issue then with an Amazon driver delivering a package to Nancy's door at 6 p.m. Monday evening?

All of the distractions are not fair to Nancy who desperately needs to be found.

Find the creeper at Nancy's front door Sunday morning and you will find her.
Only if the perp gives them the location of Nancy’s whereabouts, whether she is still alive or unfortunately has passed.

Yes there is a link but I refrained from posting it because I didn't know if the New York Post was an accepted source of information, that is why I kept it as "speculation."

But I do appreciate your hall monitoring efforts.
NEW YORK POST IS AN ACCEPTABLE SOUCE

LE was finished processing the scene by Monday morning.
What about the person placing the APS card? Thanks.
No one took video of it or pictures, but I do recall it being mentioned early on, that some media watched her take it up there, whether in livestreams or podcasts or whatever. That first week was chaotic. But... from a recent local article:

A Republic reporter saw the card on Feb. 3 while taking photographs at the front door. A reporter called the phone number listed. An agent said the card was left after Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, not before.

It was left so Nancy Guthrie, an older adult who lived alone, could contact the agency if she needed services once she returned home safe.

The Republic did not report on the card at the time as it did not seem relevant information.

Maybe I missed it here but trucks are now putting up barriers on the street in front of and near NG home. Why at this time 3 weeks later? Anyone really know.?
Is this what you are referring to?

“The Pima County Department of Transportation, at the request of Catalina Foothills Estates Neighborhood Association residents, and in coordination with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and Rural Metro Fire, is temporarily restricting the direction of travel on Camino Escalante to eliminate or reduce parking and traffic congestion related to the investigation of the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC “Today Show” anchor Savannah Guthrie.”

I mean it was pretty much laying in/near a pool of the victims blood. I’m not sure that’s the same as collecting some random objects inside the home.

If she is alive, I am sure the kidnappers are tired of not getting ransom money.

their first clue would have been because some of the plant was stuck in the hardware that held the doorcam

The neighborhood association complained about the traffic/media congestion on the road in front of Nancy's house. Traffic is now one-way.

"The restriction will create one-way travel going north from the intersection at North Camino Miraval and North Camino Escalante to East Camino La Zorrela. The County will place Do Not Enter signs at the Camino Escalante and Camino La Zorrela intersection. Parking on the road will only be allowed on the west side. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department will enforce these restrictions. About 60 residences along Camino Escalante will be affected by the temporary change. The change will last until no longer needed, Lesher said."

That the crime scene was potentially compromised. The house/crime scene had been released by LE then later closed down again.

LE will usually discuss and determine what they decide to collect or not. They can't collect every single item. Some items are not collected for a variety of reasons. For instance in the Delphi case investigators decided not to collect the branches at first because that type of surface is hard to test and collect DNA from.

And although I agree that LE should have taken the doormat and Lantana (in hindsight) I now believe those choices were made for a reason. The doormat - probably because of numerous DNA samples all mixed together from numerous people's shoes. And the Lantana - not an ideal source for DNA extraction.
