Just awful to release those. Clearly she WAS on camera. Someone's camera. jmo

Very good interview.
Ok, so do we take it that Clemente thinks NG knew the perp, was recognized( even with disguise), that’s why perp took NG?

Also, when he stalled towards the end of interview, he didn’t want to answer Brian about what he thought happened, what LE may be working on. I took it that Clemente has professional LE friends who have given him some clues, or sworn him to secrecy. Inside track on case.

According to Clemente’s overall tenor, I didn’t get that LE is close to having a suspect, RN.
Most of these experts think that IGG DNA will have to be used to find a lead to suspect.

Agree FBI profiler interview with BE was excellent and that his overall tenor suggested that LE isn't close to having a suspect, that he knows, anyhow. He recognnizes that as a FBI profiler, what he says carries more weight than whatever your average person might say, and I think he didn't want to say his opinion on what happened since he has educated guesses but doesn't want to mistakenly lead the public a certain way. That's my guess, anyhow.

If someone made an offer on her house, and NG accepted the offer, usually the buyer hires a home inspector to look over the house, property, etc from top to bottom.
The inspector usually only comes one time, that’s why this is a good idea, most people wouldn’t think of this person as a perp, not a regular worker.

Right, it’s often done after there’s an offer, buyer can hire, pay for inspector.
Or often, because NG lived there so long, older house is sold as is, the seller does it, so people know they may have some work ahead on an older home. Inspector can be before or after an offer. JMO

Either way, it’s usually one person for a few hours, report is emailed, so not a strong connection to NG.
The inspector could then even tell someone else, who then gets started on stalking, investigating, planning a crime, so no connection to NG other than word of mouth.

Tech question: if NG’s user name/password were known to family members for her pacemaker app, would it be possible for each LEO going door to door to install the app (say, Medtronics or whichever is appropriate) with her login information on their Apple Watches or smartphones and see if they get a hit anywhere?

They would probably need information specific to her device, for example the serial number, before a connection could be made. And it may be a HIPAA violation to do so, even though it would be extremely helpful.

Good idea. I’m not up on pacemaker apps, but I think I get your drift.

They have NG’s phone ( get PW from Annie if necessary), take this with them in the area where they are searching. See if pacemaker reconnects.

I think what you are asking if app can be added to other phones, take on search.

JMO

The LE have been using the pacemaker app cloned from Nancy’s phone to search both on foot and from the sky using a sniffer (which boosts the range). Yes they technically could install it on more devices.

This is available on Amazon. I’m sure there are many of similar type sold in costume shops, party stores, etc. I’m not sold on a double mask theory, but it certainly possible.
So the hair, the beard, mustache, eyebrows all could be part of a mask?

Maybe LE is re-canvassing to see if anything has occurred to the neighbors. Sometimes a witness doesn't initially understand that what they saw, heard, know is directly related to the crime.
Agree FBI is re-canvassing and I suspect they also have additional questions that they are asking the neighbors. Curious. They also had the heli flying low overhead, too, which suggests to me that they are looking for NG and a signal from her pacemaker.

Yes, and I've wondered if it is part of a mask. If it's not part of the mask and this perp was inside, DNA could be surely left from his hair, beared, mustache and eyebrows.

Yes I think it is quite possible that people who worked on her home might later say to people, hey guess whose house I worked on this week? NG may have had pictures of her family, or from the TV show last year.

Most of us have family pictures around the house, awards, things we are proud of, etc.

That's definitely a way word could have gotten out, and the idea put into someone's mind.

Maybe this is one reason he had layers of clothing, masks, gloves. Trying not to leave DNA anywhere at the crime scene.

Well this is concerning given the size of the award. Someone has to have noticed their son/brother/co-worker/friend/nephew behaving differently the last month.

I agree. Whoever did this is either dead or moved on.
They tried their big plan for a big payday and it failed epically on that level. Probably because 84 year old NG died in the process.
But they didn’t get caught.
When a million dollars doesn’t inspire somebody, it’s over.

What’s weird is I thought the eyes on the mask looked feminine, thinner eyebrows, but then the mouth area had a mustache and goatee.

It's not Impossible. NG did work for the University of Arizona for many years, and she might well have maintained connections there after she retired. Plus I think SG also studied there? So it does seem within the realm of possibility that the Guthrie family are somewhat known about within the UoA community
If she worked at a university she would know academics and general university staff. Do we know what area of the university she worked? When did she retire? How many years ago?

I wonder if LE is looking at recent missing person/death reports.

A number of people here have wondered if perp died accidentally after the abduction, car accident, disposing of the body, or killed by an accomplice.

iiuc/iirc, profiling can reduce the odds of a crime being solved *if* it's applied and influences investigators' thinking *before* other investigative techniques are exhausted.

Maybe the perp wore a combination of masks. Both male and female to further confuse and distract.

Sometimes when people get stuck, hit a brick wall, they go back to the basics.
Reexamine everything from the beginning. And ask additional questions based on new data.

did nancy discover incriminating info regarding someone? could she have witnessed a bad event and someone saw her as a threat?

  • #42,698
Well this is concerning given the size of the award. Someone has to have noticed their son/brother/co-worker/friend/nephew behaving differently the last month.
Well, in the Delphi case they kept saying people should look out for the son, brother, husband, neighbor , coworker etc. who had changed their appearance, acted differently, etc.
.
And for 5+ years the killer was there in plain sight (after video and audio of him played all over the news and social media) working in town at the local CVS pharmacy, right next to the police station. No one noticed a thing.

Yes it is a cognitive bias that causes an investigator to only consider data that bolsters one initial or pet theory, and reject/ ignore any other legitimate data.
It think it is better to initially only look at primary source data and develop some theories, then go to secondary source data.

Some way down the first page of this thread, there’s a good discussion of ideas around this. Discussed up thread in detail, too.

If it’s a thin mesh mask, it’s possible that even the teeth in the video footage are part of it and cover the real mouth. Moustache could be real, showing through the mesh. The bite light would be shining through the mesh.

I don’t know how the mesh mask would look under infrared, but in the video, there’s something off about the mouth and the placement of the flashlight. All discussed at the link. Worth a look.
