GUILTY NC - 2nd Lt. Holley Wimunc, 24, Fayetteville, 10 July 2008

There for a while, NC was being hit with a lot of domestic murders. Have you ever heard that in teens, when one teen commits suicide that you need to keep an eye on the teen friends because it may start a type of trend?

I think that happens in DV too. They read about the DV murders while they are having problems in their own relationship and while I wouldn't say they actually decide to copy it- it does place that in their thoughts as a possibility. JMO of course.

The connection is Ft. Bragg and the culture in which they allowed women in the military to be treated. IIRC, wasn't Jeffrey McDonald also stationed at Ft. Bragg???:waitasec: It's just odd the timing of these three cases are so close together, or that we're getting more publicity about them than others that happen in the area.

I'm not sure, but I think it just might be we're hearing about it more. The MSM's have learned that one story that sells is wife/woman, mysteriously murdered and add an abusive spouse,........ headline news.

I know we live north of Camp Penalton, and they have crimes which the MSM don't get hold of. We see it in our local papers, if you're looking far enough back in the pages, that is.

Heck, a month or so ago one of the marines was found at a local beach community, murdered. It's reported that another AWOL marine did it. I haven't seen a word about it since it happened.

Now that the girl's name has been released and her and the ex's myspaces found, I'm seeing two homicidal men who wanted to get rid of their ex, not a real serial killer copy-cat.

Susan

Could someone please post a link to her myspace? Thanks so much

It really isn't that odd to me. Crime happens just like this all the time in America but the reason these get attention is because they are in the military.

But crime happens and at Ft. Bragg they have 43,000 soldiers alone then all their families living there and thousands of civilian base workers. Then at Camp LeJ in Jacksonville they have over 40,000 Marines and their families too and again thousands of civilian base workers. So this is a total workforce of over 100,000 who are affiliated with these two bases and any city or establishment that has that many people there is bound to be these same type of crimes happening just as they happen in other places.

I am surprised though that even though the media has reported on this case it doesn't seem to be garnering the same attention as Lauterbach and Touma for some reason.

Wondering why we aren't hearing more about her kids....Where they are, the news is reporting that they are safe but haven't said where.

Kids? I didn't know she had kids. Do you have a link to that info? I was hoping there weren't children involved this time. How sad for them!

I was watching the Nancy Grace episode about the case tonight, and at the bottom of the screen under the photo it said 2lt Nurse and Mom missing after fire in apartment.

I had to wait till it came back up and read it a few times to make sure I read it right. Nancy Grace was talking to someone on the phone as well about the case and asked if there were kid things in the apartment or if they knew if neighbors had mentioned the kids.

I looked online searching the terms Holley Wimunc kids, and found this article.....

http://www.wqad.com/global/story.asp?s=8662449

Wimunc earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from St. Ambrose University in 2007. At that time, she went by the name Holley James and listed a DeWitt, Ia., address with the University. Army officials say Wimunc is originally from Lafayette, Louisiana. A former classmate of Wimunc's told WQAD that Holley had two children and was in the middle of a divorce when she graduated. She married again a few months later.

So yeah after reading that I am even more confused, 24 years old, divorced, remarried, 2 kids.......Who is the father of the kids?, where are they....Who is the ex husband, and is he the father.

Geez so many questions and so few answers

The children of a missing female soldier whose apartment was found smoldering Thursday morning are safe, police said Friday.
2nd Lt. Holley Lynn Wimunc, a 24-year-old nurse who works in the mother and baby ward of Womack Army Medical Center, has been missing since the fire at Morganton Place apartments off Morganton Road.
Police would not say how many children she has or reveal their ages. Detectives offered few new details Friday about the arson investigation and missing-person case.

On her myspace Holley didn't mention kids. In John's myspace he listed himself as a proud parent. Of course I think he put the myspace up for her so he could have listed himself as a proud parent because he wanted to pull on her heartstrings and the kids could have been his stepchildren- or it they could have had kids together.

Do you guys believe that the last two are connected by the same killer? With the zodiac sign?

  • #73
holley lynn james/wiminc i believe came from iowa somewhere between these to towns Dubuque or Maquoketa

  • #74
while Megan L Touma came from Newport, KY and also Evans Mills, NY

  • #75
i also think that holly was a stepmom for 2 children while she was married to john wimunc as these children belong to john wimunc from a previous marriage or relationship thats why they might be confusion in this area and would explain the reason she never added this to her myspace profile while he did on his myspace profile.

Why doesn't the military do something to step in when they know there is domestic violence issues with their soldiers? They should make it a point to control their troops, imo. Her ex to be should have been in the brig for abusing her or threatening her in the first place. They should have taken appropriate steps to protect her and certainly should have made sure that she was able to go to the hearing on the restraining order! I think he prevented it and she went missing either then or soon after. They haven't give us a timeline of when they believe she did go missing other than a few days before the fire, have they?

Oh I think one or two believe they are connected. But I believe that most of us are pretty focused on the relationship issues that proceeded the murder/disappearance.

Good question. I haven't seen where they have actually said when she went missing. But the hearing was May 28, more than a month ago. Yet a coworker went looking for her last week, so somehow I don't think that it has been that long.

It isn't unusual for a woman to not show up for a dv hearing to extend a protection order. Some believe that the guy got the message (or should have) and they don't really want to see them get into trouble.

I too don't understand why more is not done. This was an attack on a US soldier, allegedly by a US soldier. Whichever perspective they are looking at, you would think they had a vested interest in the soldiers training and availability for their jobs.
