I can remember the picture of the container on the bed, but can't remember as to what was in it. Sorry

Was it a storage container?

Just because the Defense didn't put on a case, how come they get so much more time? I don't think I remember this in any of the other NC trial I have watched.

Most judges I've seen try not to limit the time of the opening or closing remarks in a trial, and they discuss this with the principals; some judges just tell the attys that their "time will be limited to xxxxxx" whatever time the judge sets -- which can be further discussed.

In NC, the attys for the People of the State of NC have the benefit of choosing whether they will go first or last or split the time in openings & closings, except when the defenses chooses not to put on a case in chief. In that instance, the defense gets the option of going first or last or splitting when they give closing remarks.

I feel certain this jury will eventually work its way to M1. However, Based on its questions, I have concerns it will want to go over every piece of evidence and all the testimony before reaching a decision.

"Based on the bricks being insufficient..." the jury should vote not guilty, says Bethea-Shields. She WILL NOT SAY LL didn't do the crime. That speaks volumes.

If he has any chance, this woman is it. She's doing a great job. Can't stand that she got the last word. I wonder if any juror(s) will fall for it. Hope not.

Grrrrrr. I have to agree with you on this, Boodles, she is doing a good job.

She's slicing & dicing Shanita and saying some other things that the prosecution could answer easily if they had the chance. Shields has to go for it, yes, but it makes me spitting mad watching her do it. I absolutely believe that she would not have said some of those things if the PT were speaking after her. Oh, well. All for that "one juror." Grrrrrr.

Now I worry.

Gotta git. See ya'll tomorrow! :loveyou:

I feel your frustration Borndem. When the defense doesn't have a case it always puts the blame elsewhere. Defense doesn't have facts nor law on its side so it attacks someone else. I think Shanita has been prepared for the attack.

bbm

I think you're right on that, Chel -- I hope so. Shanita is not perfect and she was in with a tuff bunch there for a while, but I think she is trying as hard as she can to do the right thing and be a good citizen, and, as Celisa Leheu (sp?), the lead investigator on the Carson case said, is trying to better herself and rise above the lifestyle, etc., of some of the folks with whom she associated in the past. She is not, and was not, IMO, ever "one of them," even while she was hanging out with them.

I just hurt for her a little bit & I'm disappointed that those things were said and implied about her. Shanita & Celisa may have to talk tonight on the phone a bit -- if that is allowed during the run of this trial. I hope Shanita can continue to rise above all this sordid and awful biznezz. (Still growling...)

Hope this jury doesn't end its deliberations at 3:30 p.m. each day like the AZ Hulsey/Holly jury.

What we usually see here, Chelly, is that the jury will deliberate each day until 5:00pmEDT, or maybe a bit earlier (maybe 4:30 or so, for traffic's sake). I guess the "official" start time is 9:00am in Durham County -- it's been varied during this trial, altho in Wake County -- 15 miles away -- it is 9:30 -- it's up to the Judge. Anyway it is a full day of deliberations with an am & a pm break and a hour+ for lunch, much like we've been seeing here during the trial.

I wasn't aware of the mistrial. Wow that must have been hard on almost everyone, little babies don't decide to unbuckle themselves and hurl themselves out of a moving vehicle's open window. Seriously I watched the testimony of the newsmen (2 of them) arriving at the scene and thinking it had to be a doll and hearing the pain in their voices. I can't answer my office phone when I am blubbering so I try to catch up before or after hours.

Dumbly and too late I ask: Which trial is it, CUCKOO? I remember the headline (not forgettable), but that's it.

TIA!

That is a lot to ask for. imo

#2 are they serious they are questioning something. imo

This may not be cut and dry as I thought. imo

I don't like it either!!

I worry.

bbm. I agree! And I feel she crossed the line, intentionally inserting several "facts" that were not presented in evidence, I think one was about TT's supposed statement to a grand jury. Now, it seems at least one juror is suspicious that they have been shielded from the "real" facts. It was a smart thing (for the defense) to bring up that the jury had not heard anything from the lead investigator.

A defense attorney is supposed to defend a client to protect him from unfair prosecution, not make stuff up. She didn't have to take it so far as to character-assassinate Shanita Love to the extent she did. Implying, if not outright stating that Shanita was there (Carson murder)? That was low and dirty, IMO. I was frankly shocked by how far she took her closing. I had much respect for her up until the last segment of her closing.

What was significant about a container on the bed?? Anyone?

I remember it being mentioned by the evidence techs, but all I remember was that they listed it as part of the items that were in the room. If there was any testimony about it, I don't recall it.

Was it a storage container?

To the best of my memory, yes, Chelly. Was it presented as evidence? I guess it was since they're asking about it, but I am drawing a blank on it.

Re the Maybrey (I had initially entered, "Mayberry." Dayam.) police interview: Does the jury not know that they can't ask to review stuff that was not presented as evidence?? Oh, my stars.

Please let the foreperson be intelligent, please...

Now I AM worried.

Great post, Boodles -- beautifully said. Agree 100% -- some of that stuff was simply low-minded, disingenuous, unfair and near-vicious.
