Break in the Case:

Police release ATM video:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,336149,00.html

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina police on Saturday released an ATM surveillance picture of a person of interest in the case of a slain student body president and said it appeared to be a random killing.

"This is our biggest break so far," Chapel Hill Police Chief Brian Curran said at a press conference of the picture, which was taken from an ATM surveillance camera.

Police were seeking to identify the person of interest, who allegedly used a financial transaction card belonging to Eve Carson, a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student who was shot to death early Wednesday on a city street not far from campus.

wow!...shouldn't be real hard for someone to identify this guy, imo....great picture..

Cases not linked, but just soooo coincidental and awful, the murders of Lauren and Eve, 24 hours apart, both from Southern universities and in both cases, looks like robbery was the motive.

I will be interested to find out why Eve was out at that hour of the morning. Did she leave the house to go to a friend's, store, etc. and was carjacked??
Was she abducted?? I heard a friend of hers on Greta's last night say she was wearing running shoes...did she leave the house to go running?

Prayers for a quick resolution and justice in Eve's case, like there has been in Lauren's.

I'm sure they know the time that the ATM card was used. I didn't see it in any of the articles, but I'm curious to see what time it was. Just so we can narrow down TOD.

I found this article:

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iU3IVnyNBpy8ooTN4OutE2rKG1pgD8V8NTG00

"My information is she was an extraordinarily busy woman and it wasn't unusual for her to go to the office in the middle of the night," police Chief Brian Curran said. "But we don't know that's what she was doing."

So possible she was on her way to the office when she was carjacked, if it is a carjacking. I'm guessing she feared for her life and gave the murderer her pin number. How else would he have been able to use the card?

i was thinking this was a car-jacking, but leaving the car a block from her home doesn't sound like it huh?....if they have film of a guy using her atm card, then maybe an arrest will be coming shortly....? (or am i really far behind on this?)

I am thinking that he was an intruder and got her to leave in her car with him. After she gave him the PIN number he shot her. If this is the case than there should be gunshot residue in the car.

I guess they aren't linked except by circumstance, but it is still remarkable how many similarities there are. Life is strange and in these cases...extremely sad. What a waste of two beautiful women who had so very much going for them.

Eve had achieved so much in her short time. She was surely going places and was such a bright star. It is so sad to know the world is missing out on what she would have become someday. :(

I do hope they find her killer very quickly and he is punished severely.

This has got to be the stupidest perp, or this ain't our guy on film. Come on man, make this a little cerebral; leave the card in a bathroom with the PIN written on back, something. Don't let this woman die so some 🤬🤬🤬 could use her ATM card.

On a less ranting note, if this was a "random" shooting, did the guy say "Hey lady, give me your PIN so I can kill you"?

She's smart, so probably wouldn't give him the PIN knowing what happens next (this isn't a smooth repeat offender; he's gang-bang material). Whoever it was came prepared for overkill with a shotgun and handgun.

If he carjacked her, I don't think he killed her there in the car, since the vehicle was not mentioned as a crime scene. Whoever it was came prepared for overkill, with at least a shotgun and a handgun. Why so many shots? Was she getting away and it took them all to stop her? Is this a gang initiation?

And why kill someone on a public street, near dawn, with others stirring about, making your getaway more dicey? Go out into the boonies to kill, then torch the car.

Something just doesn't fit here.

Awaitng more info.

Interesting question. Was she alive at this time, maybe even in the car, smart enough to say to take her to the ATM, then I'll give you the PIN, prolonging the crime and increasing her chances for escape?

I thought the same exact thing when I saw his picture. Either that or he wanted money for drugs. It's such a shame. I hope they catch this SOB and soon. If he is a gang banger, then I wouldn't be surprised if no one turns him in. Hopefully, a family member with a conscious sees the news and calls the police.

Very good point about both weapons. This could be a gang initiation. It could also explain if it was that she was targeted by the gang. She was pretty high profile.

I agree; somebody knew who she was and was after her. You don't cruise the upscale streets of a college town wearing gangsta clothes and waiting for your next victim.

If it's gang (still up in the air with me), I hope he'll get ratted out if the money is good enough and the witness program secret. Still troubles me as random, since it was such a high-profile person in an area not known for crime.

It is probably just me, but if you look at the ATM photo and the photo of Eve with the guy on picture #7 (plus he is half in photo #6), he is wearing a similiar gray sweatshirt/jacket (yes, I know they are very common) and has a curved eyebrow. Might be way off base as the guy in the photo would appear to be a fine, upstanding student who is active right along with Eve. Still...

I think they do look similar. I don't think you are off base at all, SeriouslySearching.

i think the visible eyebrow and outer corner of the eye are VERY similar!

ETA: I took a look at the photos on CNN and enlarged them and that is what I am comparing the color photo to.

Similar nose too and same shape face.

Wral.com has a little clearer pic of the perp. You can see his eyes a little better.
