GUILTY NC - Judy Brown Brock, 71, Holden Beach, Brunswick County, 15 Mar 2019 *arrest*

  • #61
Brunswick County has a weekly newspaper that errs on the side of caution. Other news comes from Wilmington NC or Myrtle Beach SC. It appears there aren't any local reporters able or willing to cover this case.
JMO, MOO, etc

That is interesting and might explain a lot.

1 month after murder, Holden Beach community waits for answers
Even after the flood of traffic at the end of March -- first the police, then the news trucks, then onlookers -- the cars kept coming to Greensboro Street.

Near the end of the road on the Intracoastal Waterway in Holden Beach, the Brock house sits dark. Behind the home, where Judy Brown Brock and Phillip Harry Brock lived since 1999, Phillip Brock’s boat, the Judy B., still rests above the water.

SM, who owns the home next door, said some days dozens of cars roll down the street, passengers peaking at the house where one month ago, Holden Beach allegedly had its first murder in recent memory.

[...]

Brock’s case went to grand jury Monday, and jail records show his next court date is scheduled for April 24.

Mayor Alan Holden, whose family has lived in the community for seven generations, said Brock’s alleged murder was the first in the town’s history since it incorporated in 1969. With roughly 1,000 permanent residents, violent crime in general is rare on the island.

[...]

A cause of death has not been released. Phillip Brock remains in the Brunswick County jail with no bond.

Police Chief Jeremy Dixon said friends, family, and other people around town that the police department has interviewed have been extremely cooperative with the investigation.

[...]

Just as shocking as the actual crime, neighbors said, was the alleged perpetrator.

Mayor Holden said he knew the couple personally. Phillip Brock was an avid fisherman, he said, often entering fishing tournaments aboard the Judy B. Judy Brock served as president of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Holden Beach, a local chapter of a national women’s civic group.

[...]

Back on Greensboro Street, SM said she and other neighbors are still waiting for answers as to how and why this happened. She said it’s shocking to think that someone she counted as a friend, someone who leant her tools and mowed her grass, could be capable of what is alleged.

Traditional investigative techniques, like noticing inconsistencies in an interview, opened up suspicion against Phillip Brock. Brock called 911 to report his wife missing at 3:16 p.m. on March 15. Fine-tuned location data — sourced from a cell phone — could further reveal Brock’s precise movement that day — information that could remove any doubt about his involvement in Judy Brock’s murder.

And communication records, which were examined alongside cellphone use, could help the prosecution clear up any suspicion about Rhen Wise, Brock’s alleged mistress, and the extent — if any — of her involvement in the murder; initial communication records show Wise continued to communicate with Brock after his wife’s murder for five days, until his arrest on March 20.

[...]

Initial forensics conducted on Judy Brock’s cell phone — which was left at the residence — showed her husband texted her at 8:02 and 8:03 a.m., with no response. He told investigators he left home that morning at 5:45 a.m. and that his wife was still sleeping.

Forensics conducted on Brock’s phone showed data before and during March 15 had been deleted. According to the search warrant to Google Inc., issued on March 18, deleting communication records to conceal them from law enforcement can show “consciousness of guilt,” information that can help prosecutors frame motive and intent to commit a crime.

[...]

These initial forensics also showed Google searches from two weeks prior for escort services near South Carolina. This information served as probable cause to serve the first two search warrants on March 18: the first to Verizon Wireless and the second to Google Inc.

[...]

Investigators believed Judy Brock could still be alive. After issuing the first search warrant to Verizon Wireless on the afternoon of March 18, Major Laurie Watson with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office re-faxed it twice the next morning, at 7:03 a.m. and at 8:51 a.m. with the urgent message:

“I am requesting [range to tower records] as soon as possible in hopes of finding her alive.”

searchwarrant.jpg

[...]

Major Watson also requested the location of each of Verizon’s cell sites (equipment including antennas that transmit signals) and towers (the structures sites are attached to), including the horizontal beam widths and orientations of the cell sites.

[...]

Forensics from showed Brock’s 2018 Ford 150 revealed recent GPS locations in Sampson County — a location Brock told investigators he had not been to in months. The locations tied Brock to Wright Bridge Road – a 3.5-mile road that cuts around several acres of woods off U.S. 701 in Sampson County.

[...]

New search warrants show the focus has expanded to Brock’s suspected mistress, who continued to communicate with him for at least five days after Judy Brock’s suspected time of death.

Bank records revealed a financial relationship between Brock and Wise, in which Brock paid Wise’s phone bill, provided her with credit cards, and gave her funds and covered other expenses. The two also met in several hotels since 2018, according to an April 4 warrant for Wise’s Yahoo! records tied to her email account.

[...]

It appears that, from an investigative side, the state has more than what it needs; after a review of Brock’s court file Wednesday, no new search warrants have been issued since April 4. On April 15, a grand jury returned a bill of indictment after hearing evidence presented by Watson and Detective John Duncan of the Holden Beach Police Department.

I can't believe they named his mistress:eek::eek::eek:

Being snarky, that’s the mistress payback for playing with a married man.

However, it appears she wasn’t enough as he was still looking for escorts. (It is stated in the article.)

Wow--what a smart 70 something man and his mistress--not. Calling escort services while he has a wife and a mistress. Maybe he should have thought more about covering his trail instead of his next dose of viagra and she should have thought more about the trail her bills paid by him were leaving... At any age, divorce exists--something tells me he wanted wife's money and all of their assets... And so perhaps did the mistress...

smh.

I am so pleased that this mistress will now hear, he was looking for others.:):):)
Terrific.

I myself was once surprised to discover I was dating a married man. Remember Amber Rudd, too, who was even more surprised.

I cannot restrain myself, so here it goes:

What are the two main ingredients in Viagra?
Answer: Miracle Gro and Fix-A-Flat.

Bumping for Judy. Considering her husband was arrested and charged, I do not understand the silence.

Probably to protect the ideal image of a family-friendly, fun, little beach town. Murder might have a negative impact on tourism revenue...

The very same thought has crossed my mind, more than once. A murder free venue prior to this man or so it is said. It certainly could be.

Bumping.

One would never know this woman existed or that this man killed her or even if he is still locked up. I truly have to wonder about the media in that area whether in newsprint, online or local TV.

Jmo of course.

BBM: Not even locally! So sad that such a bright light was extinguished and no one seems to let her legacy shine on. He's still incarcerated, but the last time I tried to look up his court case, I couldn't find anything!!! It was a few weeks ago, but still... Thank you @ilovechili for keeping Judy's memory alive xoxo

I so agree--he has no publicity or notoriety and she is just as if she never existed.

This was a 70 something year old man seeing escorts. She was an involved retired teacher in the community.

Apparently he gets a pass in the local media even. I agree with you and am disgusted by it. I check in but never expect to see news because there is none. As you said, even the court records seem to be absent...
