GUILTY NC - Thomas Bryson, 68, Mills River, 26 July 2017 *Arrests*

I have a few questions about this interview. The first question the reporter ask them how they are doing or something along those lines and the boyfriend starts to answer and JH says something. Can anyone tell what she is saying? The nephew seems a little off jmo. Does anyone know what she did as a job that she would be gone for weeks and weeks? I hate that they are playing the victim card. I believe the only victim her is TB jmo. I'm skeptical that the cops would of not believed them if they would of called them right away jmo.

If I'm hearing it correctly, she says, "that...that has nothing to do with our charges..." then she turns around as she exhales very loudly likely irritated with him!

I agree, it probably wasn't one, at least before the police searched there. I was thinking that could be the cause of the fire since all the arrested suspects have that in common in their background, but now that we know they were all locked up at the time of the fire and the house had already been searched by police, I'm thinking there are other possible reasons for the fire.

I wonder if you're thinking along the same lines as me. Sometimes on public forums, you just can't say out loud what you're thinking. haha

"Documents show:" While LE met with Stroupe's father to try to convince him to help in the search for Stroupe, they placed a GPS tracker on his vehicle, which helped lead them to Stroupe. The article also lists items found in the home before it burned. I don't see a link to the documents yet.

Wow! This is awesome!! First I've heard of this!! Definitely impressed by that move!!

Court documents show that investigators found four different items of interest on the property the day after Phillip Stroupe II was arrested. They seized black painted pieces of grass which may be related to Thomas Bryson's silver truck, which authorities say had been partly painted black by the time it was recovered.

Investigators also seized a Walmart receipt, a cellphone and shoe impressions from one of the home's bedrooms. All of this was taken from the house before it burned down.

Investigators also searched the vehicle of one of the accessory suspects, seizing two cellphones and a piece of trim.

BBM. So that's 3 MORE cell phones to add to the 4 found in the other car. Why do 3 adults have 7 phones? Maybe there are more adults living in the house? I know there are a few teen kids connected to these 3 so maybe they even took the teenager's phones?

The other items are interesting as well.

According to warrants, neighbors had spotted a suspicious vehicle near the residence earlier in the day. A person still living in the home said reported leaving between 4:30-4:45 p.m., noting all the windows and doors were locked and appliances off, warrants state.

The occupant of the home also reported receiving threats of violence before the blaze, warrants state.

In the warrant, a detective wrote that it was likely not hot enough that day for weather to have contributed to the fire. Temperatures did not exceed 82 degrees in Barnardsville Thursday and were roughly 68 degrees at the time of the fire, past weather records show.

Is this the 4th occupant who had been in the home after the 3 were arrested? Or are they referring to JH's comment of threats?!

Before that it says there was someone still living at the house but they left around 4:30 PM the night the fire broke out. I'm guessing this person gave the same story as JH about being threatened. JMO.

[h=1]Alleged Stroupe harborer indicted for being habitual felon[/h]
A grand jury indicted a man charged with harboring and assisting Phillip Michael Stroupe II on Monday for being a habitual felon.

The grand jury indicted Frederick Aurther Badgero, 45, for his alleged role in Stroupe's crimes.
Badgero and two other accomplices, Jennifer Elaine Hawkins, 40, and Larry Jay Hawkins III, 23, reportedly harbored Stroupe in a home on Rocky Lane in Barnardsville.
Courts have convicted Badgero three times for other felonies. The first was on Dec. 21, 1988, for committed felony larceny of a person. He was convicted of the theft in December 1989.

In September 1994 Badgero was convicted of obtaining property by false pretenses. He later went on to be convicted again in February 2000 for a June 1999 larceny.

Court records say Badgero told investigators he served time in prison with Stroupe. Stroupe was incarcerated in the Lanesboro Correctional Institution in 1999.

Ahh! I wish the Citizen Times allowed more than 3 articles per month to be viewed without purchasing a subscription. I've used my whole 3 already & can't read the linked article. [emoji29]

[h=1]Warrants: Tommy Bryson died from gunshot wound; Stroupe received help[/h]
According to documents, Tommy Bryson, who authorities believe was killed by Phillip Michael Stroupe II, died from a gunshot wound to the head. Warrants also say Stroupe received help from his father and friends while he was on the run from authorities.

Warrants say, at one point, the elder Stroupe was spotted on the Blue Ridge Parkway flashing his car lights and honking his horn.
After Stroupe escaped the forest, documents say one of the Barnardsville area residents accused of harboring Stroupe admitted to authorities that his family member, Jennifer Hawkins, cooked for Stroupe, let him shower, then cleaned the shower with bleach. Documents also say Stroupe told them he shot someone and stole his truck.
Stroupe's dad admitted to authorities his son asked him to help move Bryson's body. While in the McDowell County jail, Stroupe provided him directions to Bryson written on his hand and a small piece of paper.

According to warrants, throughout the conversation, Stroupe told his dad where to stand to avoid the jail cameras. At one point, the elder Stroupe asked, "What's your lawyer saying?" To which Stroupe II replied, "She says as long as they don't have him, they don't have nothing - bottom line."

[h=1]Man allegedly kidnapped by accused murderer Stroupe describes ordeal[/h]
MARSHALL, N.C. (WLOS) — David Money is grateful to be alive.

The teenager said he was kidnapped by Phillip Stroupe II on June 21, about a month before Stroupe allegedly kidnapped and killed Thomas Bryson.
Money, who was 17 at the time, said he was driving by the double bridges in Barnardsville when a man wearing a ski mask held up a rifle and demanded his truck.
Money didn't give up his truck, but, out of fear, said he would give the man a ride. Once the man got in, he told Money he was a felon who needed to get past Asheville to Marion.

WOW...reading all the details makes me sick. Lots of info I hadn't yet seen in this article. https://www.hendersonvillelightning.com/news/6305-timeline-of-manhunt-for-michael-stroupe.html

Thursday, July 27: Interviewed by SBI agent Casey Drake and Buncombe County sheriff’s Capt. John Elkins, Stroupe confesses to stealing Bryson’s vehicle when the victim was at his mailbox. He claims to have not seen him since.
Saturday, July 29: In “post-Miranda admissions” to investigators in Marion, Stroupe tells interrogators that the murder of Bryson “was not ‘premeditated’ and demanded a ‘deal with all the district attorneys.’”
Saturday, July 29: Phillip Stroupe comes to the Marion County jail to visit his son. During a recorded telephone conversation between a glass partition, Stroupe asks his father to retrieve and hide Bryson’s body. Aware of the conversation and apparent attempt by Stroupe to enlist his father to hide the body, deputies search Stroupe’s cell for a map or notes he may have shown to his father. They find nothing. “When the jail staff attempted to look at Phillip Michael Stroupe’s hands, he resisted and had to be restrained.” They see that Stroupe had obliterated the writing on his hand. They can make out the word “exit … on the side of his palm.” They photograph his smeared word.
