NV - Tesla Cybertruck explosion at Trump hotel in Vegas investigated as a possible terrorist act, 1 Jan 2025

The FBI, however, has said that the New Orleans attacker acted alone, and with the Cybertuck itself apparently absolved of any malfunction in the Vegas inferno, the community turned to damage control. They quickly accused the press of spreading “FUD,” or “fear, uncertainty, and doubt,” market shorthand for content that is damaging to a brand like Tesla, which counts many customers as avid investors.

“The media will soon jump on this CT story and spread the FUD,” wrotea commenter on the forum Cybertruck Owners Forum. “It never ends.” Since its release in 2023 following years of delays, the angular, stainless steel-paneled truck has been a favorite of Tesla’s most devoted fans but an object of ridicule for other motorists, and plagued by breakdowns, recalls, and glaring design flaws — all of which have made Cybertruck owners a touch defensive when it comes to their futuristic rides

An X commenter named Robby Starbuck suggested Musk, the CEO of Tesla, which manufactures Cybertrucks, sue media outlets that tied the attack to his product, stating headlines are “sabotaging Tesla’s brand by making people think it caught on fire.”

FUD. Ain't that the truth. It's like a cancer.

We need more access and less stigma for mental health issues.

I kind of wonder if he was subcontracted to do that work. So he was "employed"/paid by a different company but was doing work that, ultimately, was for General Dynamics. That might be why they say he was not their employee.

Jmo.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I probably did not articulate myself well.

Hard to call this one. Its all over the place.

For those unfamiliar with military service. The media's reporting of Active Duty is not straight forward.
Here is the details of the service

Livelsberger enlisted in the Army as a Special Forces candidate and served on active duty from January 2006 to March 2011, then joined the National Guard that month and served until July 2012, followed by a stint in the Army Reserve from July to December 2012, according to the spokesperson. He went back on active duty in December 2012 as a Special Operations soldier, the spokesperson said.

Here is the twist. He may have been eligible for retirement next year. Why would you go in leave to commit suicide? so close to retirement.

The enlistment In and out is an oddity. National Guard and Reserves is different from Active Duty.
They live as civilians part of the time and On duty the other part.

It appears that he lives a tumultuous life. The question is to what degree. The question remains as to
who bought the explosive material and was it an hap hazard attempt to blame Trump.

One fact remains true as this was an irrational move. The answer lies on post in Germany. His
peers will give a first hand assessment to what he was "about".

I am certainly starting to feel "a tumultuous " life as well.
I don't understand why to the national guard?? I hope you can explain this type of transition more fully. Would it have something about maintaining a certain benefit structure? Was he employed outside the govt at this time? And why did he go back on?? People do have answers to these questions. I just hope we get them

While holding that position, Livelsberger said on his Linkedin that he also worked on a nearly one-year contract with General Dynamics Corp, a firm specializing in aerospace and defense.

He alleges he 'engineered and fielded the first mobile standoff hyperspectral imaging "Lightguard Minotaur" system' during his time at General Dynamics Corp.

General Dynamics told DailyMail.com they have no record of employing Livelsberger.

Well this thickens the soup.

I think that was when he did that contract work for General Dynamics. National Guard is generally a one weekend of month stint, with two weeks required in the summer. My hunch is: He wasn't ready for civilian life, so he went back into active duty. Or it could have been about benefits also. Military retirement comes with great benefits. (He ended his life one year short, so they won't apply).

I will add to this that the time he was in the National Guard and Reserves would not count the same for his retirement. In order to retire from active duty and receive the full pay at the time of retirement, he would need to have 20 ACTIVE years. My husband had some time in the guard and they basically take each day served on the weekend or during the 2 week summer training and count the days one for one.. which ended up not being very many days counted toward active duty retirement. So I think the guy would have been 2-3 years from being able to retire and receive his full 20 years.

I totally agree this was irrational on his part. It is unfortunate this was what he thought he had to do and I am glad there were only minor injuries to innocent bystanders. I am sure his family will have a difficult time with this as it seems he wasn't really showing signs that this was something he could do.

Here we go. Pretty standard suicide trigger:

The wife of the Army soldier who blew up a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas Wednesday broke up with him six days before he killed himself inside the vehicle, according to law enforcement sources.

Matthew Livelsberger, 37, left his Colorado Springs home the day after Christmas following an argument with his wife over apparent infidelity, two sources familiar with the investigation told The Post.

His wife — who had a baby daughter with Livelsberger — reportedly told him that she knew he had been cheating, the sources said.

IIUC - so it seems that the infidelity was on the part of the now deceased suspect ML? MOO

Fine. Go kill yourself. But don't take out others. Sheesh. (Sorry if that's unpopular)

Oh I agree, but I don't think that was the intent here. Of course there was plenty of risk that the cybertruck wouldn't hold up, but the way he did it was clearly not to commit some sort of terrorist attack.

He had guns at his disposal, and could have easily done what he did in a crowded location, as opposed to the morning in a city that's sleeping at that point.

He wanted to kill himself in spectacular fashion, and wasn't looking to take others with him. It also appears though that he didn't necessarily care if he did.

I have the same experience on the northwest edge of town in Las Vegas for the 4th of July. Illegal fireworks as far as the eye can see. They’re everywhere, hundreds at once, in all directions. Dangerous, but widespread.

Drive out to the Indian reservation, Moapa Valley, buy as much as you want of anything they have. I don't think that they sell fireworks at the res right in town though.

I think Elon has been doing a good job of representing his brand while working with LE in Las Vegas. Kudos to him for his efforts to focus on the real cause of the fire and not the fault of his Cybertruck.
