  • #241
Good morning from New York. Another week of Trump's civil fraud trial begins with a defense witness: David Miller, an insurance executive the state unsuccessfully tried to block. Recap linked below and live coverage ahead,
@TheMessenger

One was former President Donald Trump’s longtime golf buddy and business associate since the mid-1990s, who served as a delegate to the 2016 Republican National Convention from Connecticut.

Another was the longtime real-estate "pal” who was a multi-million-dollar donor to Trump’s campaign and political action committees.

"The witness was Jeffrey McConney, Trump Org's ex-comptroller and spreadsheet czar. McConney had been called to the witness stand by the defense, but on cross-examination by lawyers for the state attorney general's office Tuesday, he linked Trump firmly to the conspiracy and fraud counts that have yet to be decided in the non-jury trial."

After two days of testimony for the defense, former Trump Organization controller Jeff McConney stepped off the witness stand.

Judge Arthur Engoron then adjourned court until Monday. [11/27/23]

When court resumes after the Thanksgiving break, the defense plans to call two Trump Organization executives, followed by several Deutsche Bank employees.

Death threats & antisemitic rants "inundated" Justice Engoron & his law clerk after Donald Trump attacked them on social media, says top NY court security official, citing 275 transcribed pages.

And people have wondered why Trump is "targeted" in attempts to limit his attack speech. One huge reason is that he reaches millions, and some of his supporters take his speech as marching orders. The vast majority of defendants do not have such the reach and influence that Trump does, and he is completely irresponsible with his position.

Oh, but it's "political" to hold the defendant accountable.

My objection to the various lawsuits against Trump is that they appear to be politically motivated, and taxpayers are having to pick up the tab. All it is accomplishing is his popularity with his cult followers increases. These prosecutors need to give taxpayers a break.

Let voters have a voice just as we did in 2020.

He has refused to hear the voice of the voters. So has most of the GOP, and his cult followers. He tried to stage a coup, gave away classified information to impress a rich Australian, and retained classified documents in his bathroom. He has been found to be a rapist, and a fraud.I think he needs to be tried on the Jan 6th case, the election interference, and the classified documents cases at least. Much of the cult might not believe it, but I think he needs to be really exposed for who and what he is, for the nation's sake.

If the prosecutors considered popularity polls of the defendants, that would be political.

Fortunately, the prosecutors are doing their jobs under the rule of law, not following mob rule or political-pollster rule.

There is nothing stopping anyone from voting for this defendant (assuming he's on the ballot).

Rule of law is an expensive system, true. I'm grateful for it, as alternatives have a price I don't think any of us actually want.

On Thanksgiving, Trump attacks the judge’s clerk in his civil fraud trial by name—a day after the court released some of the deluge of antisemitic threats she’s gotten. In a sworn affidavit, a court officer said these threats spike when he attacks her.

In a sworn affidavit, a court officer said these threats spike when he attacks her:

One final note: The court officer added in the sworn affidavit that the clerk’s personal cell phone and email have been compromised from “daily doxing”—and she receives up to 30 calls and 50 messages a day, which once again, spike after attacks like these.

Well, that’s absolutely terrifying.

It is, but as often as he utters it, I think his base is hearing, "wolf, wolf".
It's entirely possible all the reports of his leading polls are nothing more than bs to stoke his ego. Considering there are likely as many wack job anti Trumpers as there are supporters he's likely endangering himself and his family the more he utters this nonsense. He's still his own worst enemy.

I read this through several times to make sure I was actually reading it correctly. I guess I'm still struggling to wrap my mind around how he's just saying it right out in the open now, IMO. MOO

Truly terrifying IMO. I hope for truth and justice to prevail before more damage can be done JMO

At this point, it's been almost 3 years since 01/06/21. I think it's more like the big bad wolf huffing and puffing at this point. If something was going to happen it probably would have already. Not that we should be complacent. I just think a repeat is most likely just wishful thinking on Trump's part.

The problem I see is that he's facing all these trials--which he uses as free campaign advertising--and there is bound to be at least one cultist on the jury.

I understand, and haven't got any great answers. The New York trial is judge only, and I think being exposed as a bad business manager, and losing a lot of his assets will hurt. The cult followers are a minority. Hopefully, more reasonable voters might be following the trials, and making better decisions. The free campaign advertising has not, I believe, been as effective as he would hope. I can't link it, and am not sure if the Legal AF podcast is accepted here, but I did hear on that about a month ago that Biden had raised twice as much money as Trump in the last three months.

What do you do with a problem like Donald Trump, and whoever is following his lead? We just have to hope that the legal system, and the constitution, can deal with this.(I worry, what if he ignores the voter's voice at the next election too?)
