NY - Children told story about a girl being abducted from Newburgh

What kind of men would put a child in garbage bags? The only reasons are nefarious in nature.

What was the exact time again?

I don't understand why the name of the child isn't known. Wouldn't the school know her name? This is so confusing!

Great point by a commenter:

Could this be an already missing child that escaped and they found her again?

I mean that would explain why an unknown child who is 5 years old is alone.

Some schools aren't back in session yet. My boys go back tomorrow.

1) child witnesses (they obviously didn't know her)
2) no school that day
3) it was by a middle school
4) no missing child has been reported

New York State is on the lookout today for a five- or six-year-old girl who, according to witnesses, was abducted from outside a Newburgh school. But no name or photo of the girl has been released, and an Amber Alert issued late yesterday has been cancelled -- because, according to multiple news accounts, no one has filed a missing-person report with the police.

The Freeman reports:

In a release issued early Thursday, Newburgh Police states they had requested the alert during the early stages of investigation of the investigation. They said they have yet to receive a missing person's report or been able to identify additional witnesses to the alleged abduction, which was reported by a group of playing children, ages 5-11.

Newburgh police said Thursday morning that no one had come forward to file a missing-persons report on the girl and that the original report was made by a group of children aged 5 to 11.
Police declined to explain why the alert was canceled, saying only that further details would be issued Thursday.

another snip

Investigators had been examining surveillance recordings turned over by officials of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, according to Kerry Butrick, the district's community relations specialist. Newburgh schools do not go into session until Monday

perhaps video does not "go" with the story? Just a thought at this point

Man I fear that if this is a true kidnapping & not a joke, then the fact an Amber Alert was issued but shortly cancelled will maybe put into people's minds automatically that she was found or it was a mistaken AA...therefore people might not look or keep their eyes out for her...
