Well, let us put it so. There probably were too many people interested in limiting the scandal, and Epstein was giving out names. And hearing about Spacey of Michael Jackson being linked to Epstein, one wonders if "minors" stand for both genders, not only underage girls. I think the scandal had the potential of becoming all-consuming.

His money has always been funny to me, as well.

I think he was involved in international arms dealing, providing finance for coups and terrorism on every side of the aisle. I think he had a lot of worldwide connections in that arena. Ghislane's dad a certain amount of connections, allegedly, as well.

My first thought is, ambitious Acosta, by giving Epstein the deal of a lifetime, gained enormous political clout. What underlied second arrest of Epstein I don't know. Sounds that it started as an expose written by Miami Herald against Acosta, but perhaps it was more complex.

On the other hand, cases like this harm economy, too. Let’s discuss Wexner (because all clothing industry is going downhill after Covid) . He is a rich man, but the era of mega-malls and clothing brands is ending. But in his time, Wexner did create a lot of jobs. In fact, he was not different from any couturier except for the fact that besides taste, he also had business acumen. But in the end of the 90es, VS itself was a huge empire, and he had others. Imagine all of it falling apart at that time. So what would happen if true connection of Wexner and Epstein gets in papers in 2005? His enterprises would be boycotted, and it means, lots of jobs being "lost."

I can’t put a mark on when VS went downhill, I had the feeling it happened way before their recent controversial stances, but exactly when Wexner stopped micromanaging it. But, it alone was a huge industry.

But also, interesting. His arrest and kid-glove treatment happens in 2005. After release, he does exactly the same. His real downfall happens in 2019, and we don't know what mistake he made, but maybe, none, but the time has changed? The "me, too" campaign signaled shifts in the societal mentality. Maybe as the Internet developed and the Dark Web pedophilia expanded, people got scared for their kids? However, I remember indignant articles about "pedophile sex tourism" abroad, they were published in the 90es in all countries, and for a while, nothing changed...until it did. Here, people like GRK were targeting underage prostitutes, and the police kept arresting young prostitutes, until it started going after their johns. And when the mentality started changing, this guy, Epstein, with his Lolita express, became a huge liability for everyone.

He just needed one contact, and I suspect he got that contact in 1974.

Maybe he had to leave because of the grades. But if we look at overnight billionaires who dropped out of Harvard, they usually do it when they realize they found the job of their lives that would be more important than a diploma. Only usually it is business, but in JE's case, I think, it was really a connection. A connection that made the diploma irrelevant. And that explains how he got into the school as a math teacher, and through Bears Stern. I think he was smart enough, and very ambitious, and money-driven, but what shaped his story, we don't know. We might, though, when/if the initial participants are dead or retire. We might know less about the visitors to his Lolita Island, but the origins we might know about, eventually.

In 1974, Epstein was 21. And, it was Nixon's/Ford's time. Different America, different mentality, a very different world.

Average kids from Brooklyn, etc. make up most of the workers in banking and finance. You don't have to be brilliant or well educated to succeed in that field. You also don't have to be honest or ethical; it's actually better if you aren't.

Americans need to reconsider the way they hold wealthy people in such high esteem. There's nothing special about them other than their drive, ruthlessness, lack of a conscience and ability to manipulate and steal from people. The same applies for corporate executives, entrepreneurs. Anyone can do it.

Epstein was successful for those reasons - he knew how to network, meet people, sell a good story and manipulate other people into letting him have access to their money. I think some of his "investment" friends might have known he was a little shady, but he offered great side benefits - access to a lot of young and underage girls. A lot of those people were probably willing to part with some of their wealthy to have that access. They just don't want to admit it.
