@journalnews

@journalnews

One man said on his questionnaire that he hoped he was not being called for jury duty on this case. But hs says, "I can base only on the facts."
@journalnews

No one in the room raises their hand when Judge asks them if the can not set aside what they have heard in the media to to reach a verdict in this case.

Judge Oda done with questions for now. Asst. Prosecutor Julie Kraft is now questioning prospective jurors.
@journalnews

One of the biggest fears is because of the media coverage, there is in the room who has already formed an opinion, which would not be just an right
@journalnews

In this case the aggravating factor to the murder charge is the age of the victim - under the age of 13, Kraft tells the jury pool.

LEBANON, Ohio - When the judge sat down, Brooke “Skylar” Richardson began shaking. The former high school cheerleader’s curly blonde hair bounced as she looked straight ahead.

Before that, Richardson’s aunt trembled. Sitting in the front row of the courtroom, her aunt's knee bounced up and down. The trial hadn’t begun yet.

Richardson is accused of killing her newborn daughter in 2017 and burying the girl in her backyard – only a few days after prom. Richardson, now 20, is charged with aggravated murder and involuntary manslaughter.

Her family says the child was stillborn and Richardson didn’t know what else to do but bury her. If convicted, she could spend the rest of her life in prison.

Why is she shaking if she's so innocent and had a stillborn child?

Sarcastic question

Kraft tells prospective jurors, there is no pathologist who can say whether or not the baby was alive because Richardson buried the baby in the backyard and concealed the birth
@journalnews

It is cool in the courtroom, but Brooke Skylar Richardson appears to be shaking. Her family including her father is sitting in the front row to the side of the defense table
@journalnews

Does anyone think a parent could never kill there own child? Kraft asks. A couple jurors raise their hands.

So how will the prosecution be able to get a conviction if they can't even tell if the baby was born alive or not?

If I remember right I think they said it will be up to the Jury to decide from the facts of the case. Now off to find that article.

I looked and I couldn't find it. Sorry I may have just dreamed it.

Now addressing the jury pool is defense attorney Charles M Rittgers
@journalnews

One of the jurors said Rittgers was very emotional during the address to the jury pool.
@journalnews

Rittgers tells the jury pool there is a difference in burying a baby, with a marker and placing flowers where she could see the spot than concealing the birth, as the prosecution says.
@journalnews

Rittgers wants to know if the mere fact that Skylar buried the baby in the backyard means she killed the baby.

Rittgers questioning the prospective jurors about views on abortion. Asking they would hold it against her if she did a Google search about abortion
@journalnews

Who by a show of hands that the media doesn't always get it right? Rittgers asks the jury pool. A few hands when up
@journalnews

Rittgers telling the jury pool that Skylar had a very serious eating disorder. Noting, by law, lack of prenatal care or lack of nutrition while pregnant can not be be held against a mother.

Attorneys are at side bar with the judge and Skylar's father moved to her side to talk with her. Her mother is not in the courtroom.
@journalnews

First juror excused. New male prospective juror now in the box.
@journalnews

Two more jurors dismissed. Two more called. A man and woman.
@journalnews

One of he jurors says he has talked with his wife about the case. "We have wondered how could that happen?" he said. But assures he can be fair and impartial
