Angela Canepa quit in a one-sentence letter May 22, she was hired in 2013.

Canepa's resignation statement:

Thankfully she is back again to help Rob Junk prosecute the Wagners (for crying out loud).

Just get on with it....Manleys, Rhodens, Gilleys....!

I sure hope she is doing more than just helping Rob Junk. I’m not sure he should be helping her...

Trying to figure out what you mean. My guess is you think Junk is not up to par and Canepa should take center stage?

It's speculation on your part.;) Just your opinion.

It's what a lot of us are hoping will happen, as we speculate he might the be one of the 4 Wagners who's most vulnerable to weakening as trial dates draw near.

Prosecution has probably been working to persuade him for quite a while and seeing RN turn state's evidence may have pushed him more in that direction. It must be tempting when he sees the very decent deal she is getting if she follows through on her testimony and cooperation.

Here's to hoping this happens! I'm sure the good citizens of Ohio and Pike County would like to be spared the expense of all those trials.

CC, is her position as Sections Chief and Special Prosecutor two different positions and if so, did she just resign from one? IDK

Probably just one job - being the boss of the special prosecutor's office and serving as one, too. I have a feeling once the trials are over, she may return.

Some have speculated she made the move to the Pike County prosecutor's office now in the event the defense brings up a lot of stuff about Junk and some of the past problems he's had with his office. We all know about that. If Junk has to "step aside" AC is already in place in the Pike County office. No doubt there are some folks in Pike County who want to sling a lot of mud to keep their miserable murdering whelps off of death row.

Canepa is not employed with or paid through the AG's office anymore. She is an attorney/prosecutor getting paid through a special fund.

Canepa was hired in 2013 and served as Section Chief of the Special Prosecutions Section in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. She then resigned from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and was then off the Rhoden Case.

June 4th, Pike County Prosecutor Rob Junk filed a motion with Pike County Common Pleas Court asking for Canepa as an attorney to be appointed special prosecutor at a rate of $65 per hour.

The judge approved it, and now Canepa will be paid out of a special fund to prosecute four family members charged in the April 2016 slayings of the Rhoden family.

State lawmakers approved funding to help pay for the trials, which likely will cost $1 million.

Lead prosecutor in Pike County massacre resigns from Ohio AG office but remains on case

She is not Section Chief anymore, instead she is working as an attorney in her own right and will now continue to be a prosecutor on the Rhoden Case.

Yes, I pretty much just said that. Thanks for summarizing.

Busy times the next couple of weeks:

Monday June 22 Pretrial Hearing

Jake Wagner 10:30 am
GW III 1:30 pm

Wednesday June 24 Pretrial Hearing

Angela Wagner 1:30 pm

Tuesday, June 30 Pretrial Hearing

GW IV 1:30 pm

I'm definitely going to try to listen to the hearings live on Monday to see how things go with Billy's request for "reasonable" bond. Because we should all be "reasonable" when it comes to a former convict who is accused of helping murder 8 people in one night.

I guess Billy wants to get out of jail and follow his pastor to Alaska again.

"There have been multiple different suspects, other than the Wagners, multiple different tips that did not lead investigators to the Wagners and even crime scene evidence with a previous law enforcement officer's DNA on it," Collins and Hayes wrote.

I have questions regarding the above statement.

Multiple different suspects? I'm not aware of any others being named as suspects.

Crime scene evidence with a previous law enforcement officer's DNA on it? Who was this? Joel Jenkins?

Not that I'm believing this crap for one minute...

No previous criminal record for Billy...lol..

All JMO and bolded by me.

Thanks for the update! I wonder why they changed it to begin a half-hour earlier? Maybe the defense and prosecution are planning a long conference with the Judge prior to the hearing? Interesting.

There's probably some eleventh-hour finagling by defense attorneys to further delay the trials. I can't believe they're still claiming they haven't received all the evidence. They've received so much evidence they had to hire experts to help them read and organize it. Apparently they're trying to instill doubt in the potential jury pool about some "mystery evidence" that will exonerate their client.

ETA:

  • Interesting argument in the linked document that Billy Wagner couldn't have killed the Rhoden family because he and Chris Sr. were best friends and called each other "brother". Interesting that no one else in the Rhoden family described them as best friends or that Fredericka Wagner claimed she didn't really know any of the Rhoden family besides Hanna. If Billy and Chris Sr. were such "brothers", why did his family tell so many lies to LE who were trying to solve the murder of Chris and his family? If Billy was so close to Chris Sr, why didn't he show up for the funeral or reach out to the surviving family members in their time grief?
  • It also claims Billy was the former "father in law" of Hanna. Well, not exactly. Hanna and Jake were never married.
  • The usual vague references to "other suspects" who were never interviewed. Ok, sure.
  • Given the amount of "truth stretching" the defense practices in this appeal, I put little credence in their claims about LE DNA.
Phantom evidence, fake relationships with victims, phantom suspects. The only thing they left out was the fact that the moon is made of green cheese.

Collins knows the judge won't let Billy out of jail. He's only seeking to get his fake "facts" about the case out in the news media.
