I agree, my memory is that the "Important Papers", were found locked inside one of the truck cabs (gray and black Dodge) on the hwy 41 search. Also IIRC, LE hauled away the entire white storage trailer.
I don't think they "carelessly left" anything when they ran from the area, they intended to take the fake custody papers with them, and they needed to take their tools to try to earn a living in AK.
IMO, the two loaded pickups and three loaded trailers had been packed with all of their worldly belongings. I believe they intended to and did later drive these two trucks and the remaining two packed trailers to AK. Everything that was important to them was packed in them.
Jake thought he had successfully hidden them on the hwy 41 land just days before the FWF and Peterson searches. According to AW they were vacationing in AK during the searches. I think they were hiding in the area and took off soon after in the two trucks hauling the two remaining trailers.
IMO, the search on hwy 41 turned up a lot of incriminating evidence, things they had intended to take to AK.
Thanks. This is the first time I've heard it mentioned that Jake was trying to hide their property at the Route 41 car lot. I think they carelessly left that tub of important stuff behind at the car lot. Didn't they think BCI might find it? Geesh......
From what we have talked about in various posts concerning the trucks, trailers and AK, I'm going to sum it up and let me know if I'm off base.
One week before the searches they left 2 trucks, 2 large trailers and one utility trailer at the car lot on Hwy Route 41. They had filled the trailers and the 2 trucks with their property. They picked the Route 41 car lot because Jake and George had fixed cars for the guy who owns the car lot there.
They were suspicious of searches happening so they both hid and stored all their property at the car lot to pick up later to take to AK.
Then they left, as Canepa put it, to do reconnaissance in AK. (Or as you say maybe they lied and were really hiding in the area)
While gone the searches commenced but unknown to the Wagners BCI found the trucks and trailers they stashed on Route 41. Inside Jake's truck they found a tub marked important stuff and inside the tub were fake custody documents and the Walmart shoe receit.
BCI then hauled away the utility trailer. I assume all the items BCI confiscated were put into the utility trailer. We don't know if BCI brought the utility trailer back to the Hwy 41 car lot, or if the Wagners discovered it missing.
The Wagners came back from AK and went to pick up their trucks and trailers from the car lot. They discovered the tarps were removed from the trailers and their property was left to get rained on.
They hitched the 2 large trailers to the 2 trucks and using 2-way radios drove to AK.
We don't know if BCI had returned the utility truck or if the Wagners took any other truck or trailer to AK.
As expected the Wagners were stopped at the Canadian boarder. Not expected was that they were forced to unpack and then repack all their trailers and trucks, it took 2 hours for them to be let through.
On their way back to Ohio in 2018, Canadian/US boarder patrol called BCI and notified them the Wagners were there.
Then the Wagners stopped in Missouri and tried to do a fraudulent mortgage loan of which they failed. Likely running out of money they then headed back to Ohio where they were able to secure free housing. Angela had inherited her dad's house in Webster Ohio and if Billy didn't move in with her then he would get free housing at FWF. We know he was working at FWF because he was arrested in a FWF truck with RW hauling a horse to the vets. .....2 Cents.......
