Alford Plea

Defendant denies guilt but admits a Jury would most likely convict him.

Defendant still gets sentenced but normally to a lesser charge and lesser sentence.

Not just the Judge but the families would never accept it. They want to hear the word guilty.

Make that Guilty with a capital G.

Redeeming qualities?

NO - As FW says - "ZERO"

I understand an Alford Plea.

I don't understand why anyone would think any of the 4 Wagners would be entitled to one. It boggles the mind.

I can't conceive of anyone in their right mind feeling sympathy for these people.

I can't resist.

If the shoe don't fit, you must acquit.
Dang arthritis sure helped oj. Perhaps beavis or butthead will catch a break

I can see them struggling to fit their foot into the shoe...just as OJ struggled with the glove.

OT. I don't see any Dream Team material on the lawyering side of the 4 defendants.
Seems to me they would rather get it over with at this point.
Get it over with, or go full tilt with a jury trial to advertise their own name, their firm's name. $$

I figured you knew the definition but most probably don't, I had no clue until I looked into it. So thought I'd post the meaning of it.

The Alford Plea was mentioned on here as maybe being an option but I have no idea why they would think that.

They all need to be made to get up in front of the families and plead guilty or else they can let a Jury handle it. Angela can stay in her prison clothes all she wants.

I think the state needs to reveal as much as possible of the planning and execution of this brutal, nightmarish massacre.

Though it might be a burden on the victims' families, its probably necessary to prevent the mythologizing or romanticizing of the killers. The brutal details of the Manson murders has prevented the public from seeing the killers as sympathetic characters. When you look at their faces, you see the blood spattered homes of Sharon Tate and the LaBianca family.

The same needs to be done for the Wagner clan, in the most considerate way as possible.

The public needs to know, to some degree, what it looks like when killers murder a family of 8 people in 4 different homes.

They need to see what it looks like when killers execute young parents asleep in their beds with their infants next to them, screaming in pools of blood.

They need to see all the messages, the texts, the hacks, the weapons and accessories that went into the planning and execution of these innocent people.

They need to see that these were innocent people, some abused by the killers, who didn't deserve to be brutally massacred.

Every time the public sees a photo of one of the Wagners, they need to also visualize a photo of the infants covered in the blood of their parents.

If this isn't done, it leaves fertile ground for the public relations-minded sociopaths to cultivate sympathetic images of the killers. They may not be able to profit from their crimes, but its likely the killers family members will use their media skills to make a profit from selling the story of their wretched off-spring and the tragedy of the Rhoden/Gilley Massacre.

Rights to stories have probably been optioned already for books, movies, Netflix or HBO documentaries, etc. Nothing can be done to stop that, but the state can make sure the viewing public will always visualize the brutality and depravity of their crimes and will see them for the evil, arrogant, depraved creatures they are.

How they tried to hide behind religion while using it as justification for the massacre.

They need to salt the earth of the Wagner family, never allowing any trace of sympathy for them to grow there.

Someone mentioned an "Alford" or "Kennedy" plea. What is that?
Link to video from NBC News Dateline regarding Alford plea:

Dateline’s Lawyer Up: The Alford Plea

Here is a link to Wikipedia article on Alford Plea. I know Wiki can be an "iffy" source for info. But, if you go all the way down to the bottom of the page, the very first footnote references "Kennedy" plea, gives the case information and a brief explanation of what that type of plea is:

Link:
Alford plea - Wikipedia

Footnote:
Kennedy v. Frazier, 178 W.Va. 10, 357 S.E.2d 43 (1987). ("An accused may voluntarily, knowingly and understandingly consent to the imposition of a prison sentence even though he is unwilling to admit participation in the crime, if he intelligently concludes that his interests require a guilty plea and the record supports the conclusion that a jury could convict him.").

Betty P,
I've often wondered, too, how people process the same information differently. I don't know if movies, tv shows or whatever plays a role in the thought process, but in my mind, I clearly see only one outcome in this case. 4 X LWOP..
It's all over for the defendants except for the crying. JMO

I'm not thinking as much about people having different views of the outcome of these cases.

I'm more concerned about WHY they think those outcomes will (or should) be favorable to any of the 4 killers.

Got it!! thanks

I doubt that "Big Billy" has a size 11 foot.

I doubt that "Big Billy" has a size 11 foot.

I was referring to the 2 pairs of shoes Angela said she bought for J & G.

So here's the thing, Jake might have lied about how many he shot. You just reminded me that those size 11 and 10.5 shoe prints were found at Chris SR's.

Well that would mean Jake was there and with at least 13 gunshots I find it a bit hard to believe he never even fired one time. Maybe he fired from the front porch
or fired through an inside door but didn't shoot him in the head so in his mind he really didn't kill him.

It really looks to me like he was there and I find it hard to believe that - as trigger happy as he is - he just stood doing nothing while at least 13 shots were being fired all over the place. Porch, LR, bedroom, under the house was a bullet, not casing, Scheiderer said bullet.

Just wondering....He lies like crazy....

Take care. Some will never find full closure and that's sad. MOO

I agree wholeheartedly with you on this. After one of the four Wagners admitted guilt on all accounts in open court and agreed to testify against the other three (plus he led them to guns and vehicles used in the murders), how can anyone have sympathy for this evil clan? I guess the truth is just too hard to believe sometimes. I don't understand.

I know my opinion is not a popular one, but I have said it before, and I'll say it again.... The victims families are the ones who should be deciding what evidence is released IF there are no trials. Their voices are what matters, their pain is far worse than any outsiders. Their anger matters far more than ours. So whatever they want is respected by me. ALL MOO.

I also respect differing opinions on here, even though I may disagree. :):)

Snipped:
"I met with the next of kin of all the deceased, answered their questions, and after preliminary autopsy, and at that point, they were not wanting information to get out in the public about exactly how things happened," Kessler said.

I don't need to see or read the redacted autopsy reports. There isnt anything to be gained by the full reports.

I think some of the planning and implementing of the murders should be released. If for no other reason, to show the public how idiotic the Ws were as they decided to commit murder. From what is known, I don't see the level of sophistication that was touted early on. I see a level of stupidity based off movie and tv shows. Jmo

Think about it....The digital footprint left by the morons allowed the cyberhounds to chase them thru the thickest of cesspool.

1. Manufactured custody documents for no reason. As the father, Jake would have had custodial rights regardless.

2. Bought fancy wal mart rubber boots but yet kept receipts and video evidence. Why not drive 500 miles in any direction to purchase?

3. Dumbass bought brass catchers but left brass behind. And, they left digital evidence of the purchase.

4. Bought the makings for silencers but yet left behind evidence of the one that didnt make the cut. I mean, cmon.

5. They kept the dang weapons used in the murders. You live in one of the most rural counties in ohio and you are dumb enough to keep the weapons readily available.

6. You hack someone else's social media accounts but so dumb to leave digital crumbs leading to your doorstep.

These are just a few things off the top of my head. I see nothing sophisticated about these assclowns. I see a bunch of clowns thinking they were smarter than those throwing the book at their sorry behinds.
