I'm not sure I believe it was, given how almost all of the press didn't report this.Sheriff just said in the PC that the 'criminal investigation' phrase was a misuse of words and why they want more control of the story.
A reporter specifically called him out on the principal's words at the last PC.
I feel like they do have something, but can't share it.
Having the pressers about giving tips can just be a way to distract us.
They are not prepared to call it a criminal investigation. Comfortable calling it a missing/endangered case.

Okay, this puzzles me. I would think the response would be, "We hope we find him today - we're searching constantly" or "Each day we hope we'll solve this." But to extend the timeframe to the end of the week... seems odd. Like they know they won't solve it today or tomorrow. KWIM?
