How many more days will you continue to...... (can't hear)

Gates: Continue investigation until we have resolution. My hope is we have this wrapped up by end of week.

this one is confusing the heck out of me. i think either the cops have a good idea what happened and are purposefully acting clueless as to not hinder eventual prosecution ... OR ... they really are clueless and have no idea what happened to this poor kid that seemed to vanish into thin air. i thought this would be more resolved by now.

Double checking areas already searched. Checking areas d/t specific leads.

Sheriff just said in the PC that the 'criminal investigation' phrase was a misuse of words and why they want more control of the story.

A reporter specifically called him out on the principal's words at the last PC.
I'm not sure I believe it was, given how almost all of the press didn't report this.

Question about Community safety concerns
Telling parents educate your children, talking in general terms, we should always be talking to our children about stranger danger, buddy system, etc

Checking other specific areas as generated by leads

Not searching outside the metro (?) area

I feel like they do have something, but can't share it.
Having the pressers about giving tips can just be a way to distract us.

They may have *something*, but I think they genuinely want and need the flow of tips to keep coming. That sort of request -- to call in any little thing, even if it doesn't seem important -- ties up a huge amount of police time, just taking the calls (even if they don't follow up on 99.9% of them). I don't think they actually know where Kyron is even if if they're pretty sure they know who took him/who he went with. Giving the press conferences keeps the case at the forefront of people's minds, which helps generate more tips. Generating more tips may be the chief purpose of the press conferences.

They showed a pic of Kyron I think, and his glasses darken in daylight.
If that was a pic of Kyron.

They are not prepared to call it a criminal investigation. Comfortable calling it a missing/endangered case.

That really confuses me. No matter what, this child is somewhere he is not supposed to be, and that is a crime.

1200 tips yesterday

We don't have enough tips to solve this case

A lot of tips, coming in steadily

Prioritize those tips

Continue to come in very steadily

Gates: We have somebody with the family 24x7.

Short list of staff members they still need to contact.

Same schedule for tomorrow 12 and 4.

Statement from the family tomorrow.

"were still working on that" - what was the question? Did I hear someone ask if it would be a written statement?

Someone from LE is with the family 24/7.
Giving them updates as well.

A small number of people they still need to contact, (my impression is RSOs, but he wouldn't say who they were).

Reporters want to hear from family, and have been told family will release a statement tomorrow.

That's weird! Where are these staff that they still need to contact???

Okay, this puzzles me. I would think the response would be, "We hope we find him today - we're searching constantly" or "Each day we hope we'll solve this." But to extend the timeframe to the end of the week... seems odd. Like they know they won't solve it today or tomorrow. KWIM?

ITA - how do you put a time limit on the unknown?

I wonder how short that list is -- like is it only 1, maybe???
