Oscar Pistoriuss brief punishment sends a dangerous message
Because we dont place a high enough value on womens lives, we reinforce the entitlement men feel to act on the variety of reasons often used to justify violence and abuse: drink, drugs, peer pressure, having more money than sense, being young, feeling jealous, wanting their right to see their kids, what their victim was wearing, doing or saying.

With jailed paralympian Oscar Pistoriuss imminent release, the Progressive Womens Movement of SA (PWMSA), which was instrumental in getting his first parole blocked, has voiced its disappointment over his release.
Convener of the PWMSA Jacqui Mofokeng told The Star on Friday morning that his sentence of five years was not enough and only serving 11 months was a travesty. We respect the rule of law but it does not mean we are happy about this decision.
She said the PWMSA was looking forward to November 3, when the State would ask the Supreme Court of Appeal to set aside Pistoriuss conviction on culpable homicide. We will be there and we wont be quiet his happiness will be short-lived.
BIB - sounds quite threatening!
