Well the thought of him getting out so soon was making me feel a little nauseous, but I really needed that green bucket when they interviewed a 'friend' who visited him in prison and mourned his loss of weight but reassured us that he was still "the same humble guy we all know".

Oh please.

karyn Maughan needs to say

"Karyn Maughan ‏@karynmaughan 57m57 minutes ago
#OscarPistorius has served 363 days in jail. He will be under house arrest until 2019."

Do you think she is trying to tell us something?

Yes, karyn, thanks, it's going to be really awful for him sipping smoothies by the pool. BTW when's your interview booked with him/Carl or Aimee?

There really is no justice because the victim can never be brought back. Maybe it would feel better if he spent the next 5 to 15+ years in prison, though I doubt the Steenkamp family would find much solace. It would make the public feel better, those who want him to be held fully accountable.

Oh well. He created a big huge chunk of Karma and that is not something the courts can take away from him.

Pistorius family spokesman Anneliese Burgess said that he was at his uncle Arnold's house in Pretoria, adding that the family was "hunkered down". She said that the family would issue a statement later today.

Pistorius's lawyer Brian Webber told The Citizen newspaper that his client was home just after 22:00 on Monday.

#OscarPistorius won't be tagged as part of his correctional supervision. He's been allocated a probation officer. @eNCA

Up until very late today, #OscarPistorius lawyers, family believed he'd be released on Tuesday.

Kgosi Mampuru staff decided to release #OscarPistorius early - appears national Dept only informed after they'd done so.

DCS confirms it released the offender day early to help him avoid the media - to avoid a “staged release”.

So here is what happens now - the media scrum that would’ve happened outside prison now shifts to the house.

“A GOOD name is better than precious perfume, and the day of death better than the day of one's birth.” http://bible.com/8/ecc.7.1.amp

Carl is a sandwich short of a picnic. If he thinks for one second his brother has a good name, he should sit and contemplate his navel for a while. As both he and OP are alive, what a cruel thing to say that the day of death is better than the day of one's birth. The utterings of the family are truly repugnant.

Further to my comment above re the odious comments from the family, here's another.

Five days ago
Lois Pistorius ‏@loispistorius
@barrybateman in real life , it's a life sentence

So Lois thinks OP has a life sentence. It sure beats the death sentence Reeva was given. If anyone has a life sentence it's Reeva's family and friends.

Sky News reports that OP will meet the requirements of his parole BUT what exactly are they. Anneliese Burgess was unable to say and was unable to add anything to what we already know. This is a joke. She says Oscar's sentence continues. I wonder how many prisoners live in 5 star luxury whilst waiting out their sentence. Something "smells" about all this but, hey ho, that is nothing new where OP is involved.

Respectfully snipped.

What a strange person Carl is. He seems to have no comprehension of the hurt that he inflicts time after time. Smacks of the self importance that the Pistorian clan exudes.

Thanks I couldn't remember how June was currently feeling.
Let's hope this meeting doesn't have to happen, at least not until he is back behind bars.
Either way I feel, it would be more upsetting for June, Barry than it ever would be for Oscar.

remember the trial- when they were going through the text messages and arguments; he blamed her for being upset, and when asked why she'd sent 'I'm scared of you sometimes....how you will react to me', he said 'I think she's scared of the feelings she has for me'. He's quite brazen with the untruths.

It does seem that June has not yet agreed to seeing OP even though she has often stated a wish to look him in the eye. Maybe, now it could be possible, the very thought of her coming face-to-face with Reeva's killer seems to have been put on hold. I don't blame her.

During #OscarPistorius family statement, young woman drove out house back entrance in bakkie with back windows blocked out with screens.

Karyn Maughan interview and article:

He won't be allowed out at night, nor will he be allowed to travel. Pistorius will be subjected to mandatory drug and alcohol testing, may be allowed to train and go to gym, and will have to meet with the Steenkamps as part of the victim-offender dialogue programme.

He will be mostly confined to the home of his uncle, Arnold, a high-walled manor in the leafy suburb of Waterkloof that features more than a dozen bedrooms, a private gym and a swimming pool.

Pistorius is likely be allowed to leave the house to work, carry out community service or to attend important family events.

It's all a bit vague - may be allowed to train and go to the gym, likely be allowed to leave the house to work etc. Although it's been mentioned elsewhere, it's more than a little surprising, but then again maybe not, that none of the important things cluttered up her story, e.g. no alcohol, firearms, psychotherapy etc.

Nice to see lots of people posting :)

Jenna Edkins aka Baby Shoes?
Only joking - it could be anyone. ( Outside caterer delivering JJudi's cake?)

But at least here Oscar is seeing one disadvantage of house arrest. They have high walls at the mansion so they can shut out the press once they are inside but if friends want to come over to support Oscar they have to decide whether they want to be publicly known as his friend or pop a bag over their heads.

I'm sure he has some loyal "true" friends left who will visit with their heads held high! :)
We'll see.

Karyn doesn't want to jeopardise her relationship with the family. Coincidence that one of the few times that she does not deliver the release news before any other journalist is when the Defence team also did not know he had already left.

Anyway - those parole conditions - it sounds like humdrum daily life for a lot of working people except he is not able to go out evenings , get drunk, pack a pistol.
As I said previously, whilst the alcohol spot checks can theoretically come at any point, the CS do not have the resources to carry this out on any regular basis and if OP was to be more heavily monitored by them his lawyers would be able to argue unfair treatment.

BTW do any of the three children actually work - Carl, Aimee...?

Maybe Oscar was off to the gym or for a round of golf (only joking).

I think it is a safe bet he will get drunk behind "high walls". He will have to be very careful for the first few months because people will be "gunning" for him (please excuse the pun). Even if the SC change the verdict it is unlikely, now he is out on parole, that he immediately will be incarcerated. He will no doubt appeal and be allowed to remain "at home" until such time as the appeal is heard. I have no idea how long it takes to get an appeal heard in the Constitutional Court of SA.

From the link JJ posted

http://www.enca.com/south-africa/pistorius-parole-conditions-outlined

"Many people don't understand the very serious impact prison can have on your life and the challenges afterwards, no matter where you live," said Jacques Sibomana, spokesperson for Nicro, an organisation helping to re-integrate offenders"

I think they do, Jacques, that's the issue.

“If the SCA finds in favour of the State, Pistorius could see himself going back to jail.
However, Pistorius could launch an appeal and apply for bail”.

Witz said if he did not appeal or get bail, Pistorius would have 48 hours to put his affairs in order and return to prison.
