On Feb. 9, 2026, Othram Laboratory told detectives the testing resulted in a presumed DNA match with Steven Bearden.

The Arkansas State Crime Laboratory told Paragould police March 5 that the male DNA from the victim’s sexual assault kit belonged to Bearden “with all scientific certainty,” according to the affidavit.

Bearden is charged with rape, a Class Y felony; kidnapping, a Class Y felony; and aggravated assault, a Class D felony. He is being held on a $1.5 million bond.

Wikipedia is an incredible resource, but it relies on manual contributions and strict notability rules, so many cases never get documented or don’t stay published. We’re exploring a different approach.

Long-term, we hope this system can:
• Collect and organize information across cases
• Continuously improve and expand coverage
• Potentially help surface connections between missing and unidentified persons

Is AI taking the info people submit and plugging it into the case page, or is it all being written by humans?

No humans. Fully autonomous.

And if it is largely AI, what safe guards are in place to make sure users are submitting info from reputable sources, and to make sure that the AI doesn't incorrectly implement user submitted info?

This is a research project to learn these exact things. How can scalable autonomous systems help us in this work. Long term, the goal is not to simply describe cases but to look for suggestions (what UP and MP records might be related).
