Thank you cw028. Who called the police?

That I don't know. But...think about the neighbor seeing her at 3:45 am. Could they have called police due to a noise complaint? The downstairs neighbors weren't too fond of her keeping late hours. Why did they say that in the first place? Perhaps the noise didn't stop after police came and that angered the neighbor?

Or perhaps she was fighting with whoever she was with that night. Police are called for a domestic dispute. Police check it out and assume everything is ok. When they leave, it escalates? They keep that police report under wraps because it makes the dept look VERY bad??

These are just some theories I have.

I wondered if she had been followed home from the club she was at. Did her friends bring her home or did she drive herself? Could she have been given a spiked drink? If the poilce were called to her apartment and nothing came of it, did they not take the report of her missing seriously?

I thought at one point I read something about her being seen on Gravel Rd or Gravel Hill Rd in the Palmyra area, but can't find that information again. Both of those roads are rural with areas of almost no shoulder and I would not want to walk along them in the daylight, let alone dark.

If they are searching locally today, does that mean they think she is still in the area?

Two different facts in same story....her door was locked...her door was unlocked. :banghead:

I'm not getting that, I must be missing something.

So her apartment has been searched twice, the 2nd time more extensively. I hope they are questioning this b/f very thoroughly.

ETA: Went back and read slower. Saw that the first article above the line said door was locked, must have been an update to the one underneath the line that said door unlocked. Sorry.

yeah that sealed warrant thing is odd...is that commonplace?

It depends. I don't think it's all that unusual to keep the search warrants sealed, they don't want to do anything that would tip someone off too quick. They may feel that the perp is someone she knows and don't want them to know what they're looking for.
Just a guess.

Hopefully someone can update later on where they are searching. It says Palmyra and Derry Township police are assisting, so I would assume it includes parts of Derry Township. The quarry off Lingle Ave sounds possible. Also, all of that field and some woods along the railroad tracks off Hersheypark Drive. All of that is located within a mile of her apartment, so it would be logical to look there.

Aside from those places, I really don't know where they'd look. I don't think that they would do a blind search without any type of lead to go off of.

I don't see anything odd about the way LE is handling the case so far. The family retaining a lawyer and a PI is not unusual for wealthy families, it's just that most can't afford things like that early on. Whatever they can do to help find her is fine with me!

The search today is in a two-mile radius of Kortne's apartment, including woods and brush, trying to rule out the worst-case scenario.

Okay how is it the family is limiting the number of searchers? Sorry I don't get it.

mom's FB says it is reported that Kortne's missing posters are being removed by someone about as soon as they go up :(

Oh wow! I just saw an investigative episode of a murder case where the perp was doing this and they caught it on video.

My friend on Facebook posted that this young woman is her daughter's friend.....

I suggested that she recommend this website to the family for ideas and support.

So sad that there is no news and SO MANY of our young women are going missing!

Well, I would assume that you don't really need more than 50 volunteers to search the limited area that they will be searching today. Plus you have to figure that they will be planning on doing more searches. They'll need volunteers for those upcoming searches as well. Some of the volunteers that are searching today, may not be as inclined to participate in another search. You don't want to burn out 200 people in the first search and then have only a limited number come back for the following searches. This spreads it out evenly.

It's actually a pretty wise decision. They've obviously thought this out a little more than we have.

well I dunno, time is of the essence and personally I think the more feet/eyes on the ground asap the better...there are professional groups that could be enlisted to organize searching, as a help to local LE. I fear turning willing volunteers away from the get- go may make them not want to come back if needed...but whaddo I know. I do hope if any did show up, they were given flyers to pass out/post, before being turned away.

Looking at the Hardware Bar and others on 2nd, they seem to close at 2 a.m....How long would it take to get back to her apt. assuming she left there at closing and came straight home? Of course we don't know if she drove or rode with someone else. Or if that is the last place she left, or made any stops in between...

eta-any locals know what the usual route one would take to get from Harrisburg to Palmyra? 422/322?

Is there a lake or river nearby?

One other thing about this case I noted ... the da's office usually doesn't get involved so quickly. Locals is this normal? Is it a matter of ppd not having the resources?

  • #119
If she was in the bar until 2, it probably took until 2:15 till she drove/rode home. It takes approximately 25-30 min max to get home. I'd lean towards 25 min. That puts it at 2:45. I would think she went to a diner or someone else's house for an after party for an hour and arrive home at 3:45

Easiest way from Harrisburg to Palmyra is 422/322. I don't think it would take more that 25-30 minutes to get from one location to another, especially at that time of the early morning.

Palmyra is a small borough right outside of Hershey, PA but I would think they would have the resources for an investigation, although missing persons are certainly not the norm around here.

Lebanon County itself is fairly rural and the only major city is Lebanon city. Hershey is actually in Dauphin County, the same county as Harrisburg. The PA State Police are active in much of Lebanon County as there are not many municipalities that have their own police departments any more. There is a large Amish and Mennonite population here and the largest form of business is farming. The last missing person I can think of in the county was last year during Hurricane Irene when he was washed away during the storm and it took about 6 weeks to find him. He was found by a hunter and not law enforcement.

I have been passed Kortne's father's place of business and it is nothing out of the ordinary for this area. It s certainly not a place that would make me think of putting the owner's family in danger of being kidnapped.
