I don't have a good feeling about this "non" search. WTH would they call off a volunteer search?? These people were NOT getting paid .. they were volunteers!!!

Why did the DA hand the search of the lake over to State Police? They refused to hand the investigation over to the State Police.

The ONLY thing I can think of is they have spoken with Amanda and taken the reported info off her phone and have found it to be credible. Was the State Police called in to preserve evidence in case it becomes a crime scene?

And the search begins .. http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/in...e_begin_search_of_m.html#incart_river_default

still not feeling good about the DA being "in charge" ... they are using sonar only .. I think this is just to "appease the masses" .. to say a "search" was done. I hope if this faint attempt at a "search" does not turn up anything .. the volunteers seek diving permission from DCNR and do it on their own ..

Prayers for Kortnes family ...

Penn Live is saying there is a cadaver dog on location. Why does this seem like Lebanon County is doing the absolute bare minimum in finding Kortne?

Does the DA actually know something he is not sharing or have they written Kortne off due to her lifestyle and friends?

I don't want to give specifics because they have my name, but I know firsthand that Lebanon County either doesn't care about missing persons or doesn't use all their resources correctly. I helped them once on something they should have picked up on right away. :banghead:

Eric Veronikis' twitter feed has pics and live updates on the search, in case anyone uses twitter. He is the Penn Live reporter.

Jmo, most LE agencies are fairly inept when it comes to missing persons. Not just this one. They tend to hold back info, until it becomes basically useless, due to memories fading. It is just a police mentality, Imo, not to release info, when in MP cases just the opposite is needed.

He seems to be very unhappy with how fast the crew is moving through the lake, saying everyone there doesn't think they are being thorough enough.

What did I miss...what happened to the expert dive team...4 cops in a boat....this stinks.

RBBM

This is exactly my question as well.

why .. why .. why have they taken this search away from the volunteers that really do care? Is it to save face? Is it just to quiet the community?

It makes me very, very angry that they didn't even have the human decency and compassion to alert Kortnes mother that they were even searching today .. per her facebook ... she found out on Facebook like everyone else!!! That leads me to believe they are not concerned about this case .. not one bit! What county "professional" acts like this???

Just playing devil's advocate here, but why would they let volunteers do their job? I am not being disrespectful, but would they send a volunteer in to check out an abandoned building they received a tip on? Searching open spaces like woods and terrain is one thing, but this is completely different.

They are using a cadaver dog, sonar and a camera, and despite what the reporter says about them being fast, they have been out there for 4 hours now. I am giving them some credit for at least doing the search.

Although Kortne's mother finding out about it on FB does really suck!!

Edited to add: Video of Kortne's grandmother speaking at the search, I can't hear it too well, but it seems she is very happy the search is happening. http://www.tout.com/m/hxv6lh?ref=twkp1b1u

Personally I would be happier if Arnold had no control over this at all!
It's my opinion only but ... I feel with the volunteers there would have been more of them to cover a much bigger area. Video Ray had already agreed to volunteer their equipment and services and the volunteer divers were trained professionals and there was a team that stepped up with dogs.

I just wonder why they have chosen to go this route? I hope they are thourough. But I do understand wanting to preserve a crime scene if it should become one.

Search is over for today with nothing to report ... Will they go back??

I find it interesting that the commander from the New Cumberland River Rescue said a search of this magnitude could take days (with divers and equipment) and the State Police in a small boat with sonar did it in 5 hours. (the sun did go in and the temp dropped ... just sayin) ... yes that was sarcasm ...

Yes, this was just to appease the public in my opinion. Sorry, you still look like you don't care.

So as a local, what can be done to let local government that this is not acceptable?

4 men in a boat .. that's all the effort that was given.

Volunteers lined up and jumped at the chance to help. They didn't ask if this witness was "credible" or not .. in fact, they read reports to the contrary and STILL lined up to volunteer to search this lake. I'm sure some of them may not have even thought she was really in there to begin with .. but they were willing to do this for the family.

I'm so sorry Kortne ..
