True. I guess I was thinking more in terms of somewhere that would give him asylum, since he was afraid of returning to El Salvador in 2019.

Im pretty sure the agreement was to keep them in the prison for a year. Will go back and see if I can find the quote again.
The United States is set to pay El Salvador $6 million to imprison 300 alleged members of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang that it deports to the Central American country, for one year, the Associated Press reported on Saturday, citing an internal memo.

"El Salvador confirms it will house these individuals for one (1) year, pending the United States’ decision on their long term disposition," AP quoted a memo from El Salvador's Foreign Ministry as saying.

Couldn't find where it was mentioned up thread.

Destroying health and education programs and our oceans to just start, but withholding the money previously allotted for these programs. Food banks, universities could all use this, but due to revenge and hate...

Many countries (such as the US/Canada) have implemented agreements about 'first country of resettlement' to prevent refugee claimants being sent/trying to move from the safe country they landed in, to somewhere else.

JMO
I don't know about "many countries", but the USA and Canada have a Safe Third Country Agreement.

Safe Third Country Agreement says that if a refugee arrives from their country to the USA, Canada is safe - doesn't have to accept that person as a refugee. This prevents refugees from shopping for the best refugee deals first in the USA, then again in Canada.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia and his family could enter Canada as refugees from the USA because the Safe Third Country Agreement does not apply to USA citizens or habitual residents of the USA.

"The Safe Third Country Agreement between Canada and the United States (U.S.) is part of the U.S.–Canada Smart Border Action Plan.

Under the Agreement, refugee claimants are required to request refugee protection in the first safe country they arrive in, unless they qualify for an exception to the Agreement.

The Agreement helps both governments better manage access to the refugee system in each country for people crossing the Canada–U.S. land border. The two countries signed the Agreement on December 5, 2002, and it came into effect on December 29, 2004. The two countries signed an Additional Protocol to the STCA, which came into effect on March 25, 2023 following completion of regulatory amendments. Together the two documents represent a revised agreement.

To date, the US is the only country that is designated as a safe third country by Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

The Agreement does not apply to US citizens or habitual residents of the US who are not citizens of any country (“stateless persons”)."

Wheweeee. That's some serious high powered rifle round inventory.....

I wonder what these guys had in mind??? 180,000 rounds!

"The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado announces that defendants Caesar Ramon Martinez Solis, 41, and Humberto Ivan Amador Gavira, 24, both of Mexico, were charged with Unlawful Possession of Ammunition by Alien Admitted Under a Nonimmigrant Visa."

"This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime."

From the link- a quote from Abrego Garcia’s wife. It sounds to me like he hurt her. imo

"And I ran to the bathroom, he [ran] behind me and grabbed me by my arm," Vasquez Sura said. "I have marks on my left arm as well."

"At this point I am afraid to be close to him," Vasquez Sura added. "I have multiple photos/videos of how [violent] he can be."

"Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele offered Venezuela Sunday a trade of 252 Venezuelans deported to his country by the United States for an equal number of political prisoners held by President Nicolas Maduro's regime."

"The Trump administration received bipartisan criticism on Sunday for its deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia

Sen. John Kennedy, R-La. ...... The administration won't admit it," Kennedy said on NBC's 'Meet the Press with Kristen Welker'. "But this was a screw-up. Mr. Garcia was not supposed to be sent to El Salvador. He was sent to El Salvador."

The Louisiana lawmaker also said Abrego Garcia should have received a hearing before his deportation to El Salvador's notorious mega-prison, CECOT.

Separately, Kennedy said he disapproved of Trump's idea of sending American criminals to El Salvador. He called the idea not "appropriate or moral" — citing the eighth amendment which protects U.S. citizens from cruel and unusual punishments."

Venezuelan migrant whose deportation was blocked by SCOTUS speaks out

"We get grabbed in the morning, about four in the morning, and just get taken into a van. They tried to put us into a plane," he said from Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Bluebonnet Detention Center in Anson, Texas.

Paredes said that before arriving at an airport, the van he was in suddenly turned around and returned him and other detainees to Bluebonnet.

"We have been forced to sign a paper, right here, basically saying that we are part of a gang, that we are part of it, and they're forcing us to sign it," Paredes said.

"There's underage people," Paredes added. "We even got disabled people right here next to me."

" "I feel like that reflects how people are getting to the point that they don't want to tolerate it anymore, because it's not about who you voted for, it's not about blue or red, it's not about democrat or republican, the current administration is attacking the most marginalized groups,"

"We are here to say that we are not paid, I wish I were paid, that would be great, but nobody here is paid, we are all here and we are all volunteering out of the love for our country," "

abrego-garcia should have had a judge as a pal like cristhian ortega-lopez

judge cano did not state his reason for stepping down, it followed shortly after a man awaiting deportation proceedings, accused by federal law enforcement of being affiliated with a Venezuelan gang, was arrested at Cano’s home.

In addition and in my opinion there’s no reason to keep criminal illegal people in the US.

The list included Paredes' name and photo and says that he is a confirmed TdA member and says that he is facing criminal charges for "aggravated assault with a weapon, pointing, and presenting firearms at a person." The post also includes photos of Paredes' tattoos of a cross and a clock.

"This is who the Democrats are fighting to keep in your neighborhood," Miller said in response to the social media post of the list.

A review of court records found one charge against Paredes in South Carolina for "pointing and presenting firearms at a person" in February. The case is still ongoing and Paredes is scheduled to have his second court appearance in August.

Class action lawsuits possible, according to a federal judge .....

The order also grants class-action status to non-US citizens facing removal orders and may be sent to a country not designated in their initial immigration proceedings.

The order cites hundreds of potential class members.

The court explained, “What Plaintiffs challenge is Defendants’ authority to effectively depart from the removal orders by designating new countries for removal outside of the immigration proceedings and, in doing so, circumvent Plaintiffs’ due-process rights…”

"Podcaster Joe Rogan offered some surprise criticism of the Trump administration over the weekend, describing the possibility of innocent people getting swept up in mass deportations as “horrific.”

“The thing is, you’ve got to get scared that people who are not criminals are getting like lassoed up and deported and sent to El Salvador prisons, like that kind of s--t.”

Rogan then alluded to the case of Andry José Hernández Romero, a gay Venezuelan man who worked as a makeup artist and hairdresser, and found asylum in the U.S. after fleeing his homeland where he was persecuted because of his sexuality and political views."

He was 16 when he arrived, to live with his brother who is a citizen.

He has not been charged and convicted of any crimes in all the years he has been in the US.

He has a wife who is a US citizen and three children (two were from her previous marriage).

He took on a 5 year apprenticeship

Seems to me he arrived as a teenager, and let’s face it teenagers don’t automatically know what their obligations are, nor do they always make smart decisions, but one thing they do is they grow up, the majority go on to become a productive member of society as Kilmar has done.

Also consider the long term impact on his wife and children, psychologically, emotionally and financially.

Ignoring the rule of law as this administration is doing is going to cost the US in many ways, international reputation is in the toilet already and it wouldn’t be surprising if there are numerous compensations cases on the way over what’s being done.

What a mess the USA government has created! They gave El Salvador $6 million to look after people deported from the USA for a year, and now El Salvador is going to trade those people for political prisoners? Was that discussed during the recent meeting between Bukele and Trump?

Maybe Bukele is double-dipping. Money from the US and a prisoner swap with Venezuela - two "benefits" from the same deported and imprisoned men.

I wonder if Bukele has been paid in full by the US. Trump is notorious for not paying his bills.

imo

Video from Friday night shows Immigration and Customs Enforcement buses full of Venezuelan migrants headed toward an airport in North Texas and abruptly turning around before the Supreme Court ruled the Trump administration must, for now, refrain from deporting Venezuelan men based in the state under the Alien Enemies Act.
<snip>
As the motorcade was headed for the airport, a last-minute federal hearing on the matter was taking place in Washington.

U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, who has been hearing a case related to the flights to El Salvador, scheduled an emergency hearing for Friday evening — just hours after a bus rolled up to Bluebonnet.

Shortly before that hearing kicked off, attorneys for the American Civil Liberties Union also asked the Supreme Court to step in.

“We hear they are on buses on the way to the airport,” said Lee Gelernt, the ACLU lawyer arguing on behalf of detainees on the verge of being deported under the Alien Enemies Act.

This is not really about Abrego García. He is a symbol of the unconstitutional exportation of human beings to a prison in another country. This has nothing to do with whether he is a nice guy or not. None of these men have had the court hearing they are entitled to. There are foreign students who are being deported even with the proper visa.

The government is ignoring court orders. THIS is what Americans should be concerned about. We are on a fast track to tyranny. Once Trump has “taken care of” immigrants, he can focus on citizens who disagree with him, which he has started to do with the Chris Krebs and Miles Taylor investigations. Trump has threatened “retribution,” which is all about him, not the constitution.

I hope no American is OK with that.
