If convicted on the murder and robbery charges, Van der Sloot would be sentenced to between 15 and 35 years in prison, court spokesman Luis Gallardo told The Associated Press.

"The aggravating factors are having acted with ferocity and great cruelty," he said.

The announcement of the charges and judge's order came in a news release issued by the court. It was not immediately known to which prison Van der Sloot would be assigned or how long it might take before his trial begins. A judge must first be assigned to hear the case.

snipped...

Van der Sloot's newly hired attorney, Maximo Altez, has asked Judge Buendia to declare his client's Monday confession void on the grounds he made it in the presence of a defense lawyer appointed by police.

Reached by the AP, Altez refused to discuss the case. He said Van der Sloot's schoolteacher mother, Anita, would be arriving early next week with the family's own "media adviser." His father died in February.

Guardia said Van der Sloot's confession was legal - that a government-appointed lawyer and an interpreter approved by the Dutch Embassy were present. He also said that Peruvian interrogators had restricted their questioning to the death of Flores, the daughter of a circus promoter and former race car driver.

I wonder if the prisoners in Castro Castro have any way of knowing who their new "buddy" is ? Would they have access to media--newspapers, radio, etc at all?

If they do, I bet they have been busy making plans for him. In fact, it occurred to me...he's a rich foreigner...would they want to get rid of him? Wouldn't he be sort of a cash cow? They could torture him and keep him alive for sums of money. Extortion Karma for you, Joran.

Just saying that makes me shiver but I can't help wishing he would suffer for all the pain he has brought to people and his family dog that he killed.
Never thought of it that way. This will interesting to see as it plays out. I still think they will kill him pretty quick...revenge for the father.

Oh how I wish we had video of that!

Great link, lots of up-to date info there.

If he "wanted to come clean" why didn't he tell the location of her body? Would the rep for Hollway have made good on the promise and wired the rest of the money to him then? He would have been out of the country and presumably free and clear to roam anywhere the US could not extradite him from, right?

What was with the scarf around his neck they mentioned, I wonder?

What does Anita hope to accomplish, besides maybe visiting Joran, hope she brings him some clean clothes!!! LOL

And that picture upthread, of Stephany laying on the hotel room floor, was that a "reenactment" picture or the real thing? Thought she was covered with his white shirt only? That pic shows her wrapped in the bedspread. Wonder which version is true?

Van der Sloot also told police, Guardia said, that when was captured on hotel surveillance video leaving his room to get coffee and pastries, Flores was already dead. Guardia said he believes van der Sloot ate his breakfast in the hotel room next to Flores' body.

His motive, Guardia said, was robbery.

"When he left his room that morning," Guardia said, "Joran took Stephany's cash, jewelry, credit cards, ID, and her car, which he abandoned a few miles away."

To possibly hide his face.

The citizen Dutchman was in an ambulance with other inmates when he was transferred from the headquarters of the Public Prosecutor to the Palace of Justice. De todos ellos, era el único que no llevaba una manta en la cabeza para no cubrir su rostro. Of these, was the only one not wearing a blanket on their heads to cover their face.

If he's being held in an isolated cell for his own protection, chances of him being killed would lessen, don't you think? Wonder if Stephanys family is hell bent on revenge, or justice?

His story doesn't make sense.Maybe he's a pathological liar.Or maybe he just likes to play games with LE.Sick.

The scarfs seem to help protect the inmates from the garbage throwing and may actually be the prison issue blanket.

Most disturbing video, btw.

Louis Valdez! Dang, they are putting him with a rough group. More protection I guess, but he will just learn how to be a better criminal, or something unpleasant.

Quote:

"According to sources from INPE, Joran van der Sloot will be in the same hall in the detention center to the former mayor Coronel Portillo, Luis Valdez and the Colombian hit man Trujillo Alejandro Ospina , chief suspect in the murder of Myriam Fefer.

Those are the national enquirer pictures, and I would be extremely surprised if they weren't real. Other pictures from the same article show the police taking the body away.

justice would be a long incarceration in peru's loveliest prison. unfortunately i truly doubt his cell mates will oblige. his days are numbered.

welcome to the gates of hell.

Joran is a compulsive liar. Lies never make sense. It just makes ones story go on and on lie once you have to lie again to keep covering the tracks. I'm not saying he has covered any tracks he has just proved his guilt in my own opinion. Here is an article saying he confessed to Natalies murder. http://celebs.[link removed]/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474978293622
