He's as guilty as sin, so what degree would rage murder be, first degree?

Is it just me or is he really playing up for the camera's?

He looks like a murder!

I think he LOVES being infamous.
Have always thought that about him.

Dog the Bounty Hunter had some interesting things to say actually. Said that once, JVDS father died that he didn't have anyone to hold him back anymore, that he was a serial killer.
I found DOG's comments interesting and I agree with him. Joran also didn't have anyone to help him clean up this time either, so he had no choice but to take off and try to flee on his own. MOO

By our rules, if his intent was to kill her you could argue murder one.

In their system I have not heard of degrees of murder, not unless you kill a police officer or are engaged in terrorism at the time of the killing.

I'm curious too if there is a attempted sexual assault resulting in murder, how that would fit in to Peruvian law. And there's still the earlier report of her money being taken. MOO

JVM & Nancy Grace said they had the autopsy report.

I thought it was the police report. If you look at the diagrams of the figure as well as the room it states "based on police documents."

I asked how Jane would know the pants were "ripped off" and Nancy knowing Stephany was thrown to her knees. Stephany has bruised knees, but we don't know she was thrown on her knees.

I believe he stopped after her pants were removed, she was fighting him, and "her condition" to him was disgusting (seeing that he wasn't going to be able to have sex with her) and he killed her. MOO

If you think about it & that's what repulsed him all he'd have to do is walk away.

Obviously his repulsion stems from young women breathing air.

This was definitely NOT a robbery gone bad. There is no way he is going to rob a girl who can easily identify him through the hotel or casino. It's not like he hid his identify or changed his name, and he knows how many cameras there are in casinos. Plus he certainly isn't going to plan to rob and kill someone in his own hotel room.

I think she resisted his advances, and his repressed rage, intensified by the anniversary of Natalee's disappearance and his father's death, suddenly bubbled to the surface. And he took it out on an unsuspecting and unprepared Stephany.

OMG I haven't had time to read through the last few hrs of post but I must say that I just finished watching NG....and for once she did have a "bombshells" tonight. So much NEW detail info directly gotten from LE! I guess Jean knows the level of detail we here in the US want! Bravo!

I know someone asked the question yesterday about how the Peruvian criminal justice system works. Are there varying degrees of murder like we have here 1st degree, 2nd degree, manslaughter, etc? I tried researching this information but I can't find any information. About all I know at this point is there are no juries just a panel of 3 judges. Does anyone know?

If he's found guilty 15 to 35 years they're saying on Nancy Grace.

Yes, didn't hear how long JC said it would take if VDS pleads guilty. The trial will take about 2 years, if he doesn't plead guilty.

Not sure where I read it now, but I read that if robbery is involved he could be sentenced to life due to aggravating circumstances.

What I was trying to say is her "condition" (and I'd imagine a lot of resistance from her) prevented him from completing what he'd lured her to his room for. He then flies into a rage and she's dead. MOO

The clerk also noticed her long hair. when she went into the room her hair was pinned back. in the video of her in the parking lot I thought it looked like her hair was down, but thats not very clear video.
do we still have alink for that?

I am wondering why van Der Sloot did not fly out of Peru to Aruba after this crime?
Or at least to Dutch Guiana. ( Suriname)..?
Perhaps he thought Chile would not extradite to Peru.

His behavior does make him seem to be a sociopath...
because it is simply insane.

I am presently listening to HLN on sirius radio and the reporter in Peru covering the story for CNN HLN just told Mike (Gallanos) that from an exclusive police report she received from the Peruvian authorities states that when Stephanny was found the only piece of clothing that she had on was her shirt - no panties - she was found on her back, knees drawn up to her chest.

The reporter (sorry, did not catch her name but she fills in for the NG show sometimes), states that Peru really needs to investigate further whether Joran sexually assaulted her and noted that that could have happened but Joran did not "complete"/"finish". Therefore no DNA proof.

Gawd, if that is the case how horrendous!!! The way the reporter stated this makes it sound that he possibly sexually did something to her after she was dead, or so near death that she was not moving. OMG this is sick!!!

Echoes of Ted Bundy. (shiver)

If he drugged her and she wakes up to her cash being gone that does not mean that she can really call him a thief, or even if she really thinks he is a thief she is probably not going to be jumping up and down to say she went back to a strangers room, doesn't remember hours of the night, and her money is gone.

Sexual assault is possible, monetary motivation is also possible. Whatever it was something didn't go his way and he had a murderous temper tantrum.

I don't see him as a serial killer because his planning is so horrible. If there were several girls that he killed in the past and are not tied to him that would indicate a level of control and planning that are not anywhere evident in him throwing drinks in reporters faces, or leaving dead girls under his bloody shirts in a room registered in his real name.

Sorry if I got the name wrong. They were talking about a report & spoke of ME report. You have a lot of questions I have no answers to. I have no idea why Jane would say anything she says. A lot of people tell me they email tv personalities and ask them questions. I'll bet JVM has email.

He had no idea how long it would take for the body to be found.
He was probably afraid to go to an airport and thought his odds were better going a lower profile route.

It is just so very upsetting to me that this poor family will more than likely not ever learn what happened in that room....two people know and one is gone forever....the other that is left can't get his story straight ever.:banghead:
