It would be comparatively difficult for the murderer to kidnap Maddie since he would have to walk with her (or carry her) down a narrow flight of stairs, pass Dylan’s room, and then up a hill to his waiting car.

If he wanted to kidnap Maddie, he could have just grabbed her while she was outside pottying Murphy: He lures Murphy to him, Maddie follows Murphy up the hill, then he forces Maddie into his car.

As terrible as the murders were, being kidnapped, raped and murdered would be even worse IMO, so I’m glad he didn’t do this (even if he planned to).

IMOO, of course.
Not if he drugged her either Dexter Morgan style with a needle injection of a sedative to knock her out or used chloroform to gas her out by covering her mouth with a cloth. And if he drugged anyone else there, he could have easily gotten her out faster with no one knowing.

I believe that Maddie was his primary interest - not anyone else. It wasn't about who was easiest to target. It was high risk and more exciting that Maddie was alone on the top floor (he didn't know about Kaylee) and others were in the house at the time.
"A popular college student vanished in the night from her bed, leaving behind only bloody sheets and few clues about the evil she encountered while her roommates slept, but the mysterious disappearance would earn her an unfortunate place in American history.

In February 1974, Lynda Ann Healy would cross paths with one of the country’s most prolific serial killers and become Ted Bundy’s first known victim."

Watch it come out years later from Brian, cause all these guys what a legacy as to why they do crazy 🤬🤬🤬🤬 like this, but have a memoir and just like Israel Keyes, that his idol was Ted Bundy! I guarantee he idolized Bundy and that is why he picked Maddie, because she probably reminded him of either his mother or a woman he was with a long time ago like Bundy because after his ex left him he targeted women who looked exactly like his college sweetheart! That was Ted Bundy's MO for picking victims.

Damn, there are two sliding back doors, one at the porch with no steps going down, and then one on the first floor that leads to up the hill. If there was no flood security lights on the back, it's easy to sneak away and find ways to cover up the tracks afterwards. And it doesn't surprise me he went into CSU, because The Golden State Killer, James D'Angelo was a cop for decades in both towns he was murder and r/ping women in! Same with Dennis Rader, BTK, he was working for ADP Home Security at the start of his killing journey and later went on to be the guy who was in charge of permits for the town and he was a security officer as well as an Army veteran.

Often people who are psychopathic cold blooded killers who go into law enforcement professions, it's so that they stay ahead of the case about themselves, but also because they get off on power and control over people, gatekeeping basically.

Interesting comments from Shanon Grey for example - ' We really want to take the voice away from BK'
GOOD! He wants a legacy, he wants us to forget the victim, only remember him. It's the narcissism in him that gets off on people remembering him, only talking about him, talking about his killings, the details of his murders, etc... that's why serial killers love giving interviews, like having memoirs, love when they have fans who writing them while in prison. They enjoy that kind of influence, power, and control over society, because then they get to brag in prison about it to others to earn cred so they can be feared. That's why Charles Manson was notorious for doing this, did it to John Douglas of the FBI when he went to California to talk to him. You see this played out in Netflix's "Mind Hunter".

Speeding away from, no less.

Wish the officer had asked what he was doing in Moscow --

How many words could he blather into the wordiverse to say anything but stalking?

Star gazing?

Honest answer if he meant fairy lights and a third floor window.

JMO
I'm not surprised he didn't. I mean during the height of serial killers in the 1970's and the 1980's this was a common thing, because people weren't taught yet on how to properly profile and catch things that were questionable. I bet you if anything, that cop didn't think anything of it and thought it was a "normal" him being there, because psychopaths have high glibness/charm, they can talk themselves out of anything so the cop didn't catch the micro lie built into the fabricated twisted truth he was weaving to not get caught. They see it as a game when they do this to cops and get off on feeling they out smarted law enforcement.

I did not know this. Wow. Emulating his idol? That makes all the sense in the world. Gad.
I said it today that his idol like Israel Keyes, they both idolized Ted Bundy. I hadn't gotten to this page yet and it is backing up what I was originally theorizing about Brian. Ted Bundy is creating a 21st century fan base it feels like of potential budding serial killers these day!

You know, anyone find out if he obtained blue prints quietly of the house layout or had broken into the house when no one was home one night to trace the house access points? I'm curious if the FBI was able to find this out or not in their initial report when it comes out. Cause it's plausible if he ever did break in long before what he did, he could of hidden in air ducts to heating vents stuff to use so no one would know. You'd be surprised how many serial killers plan crazy far ahead, like months or weeks. Israel Keyes always comes to mind with this burial across America in every state almost of the home depot buckets with a kill kit inside.

Yikes.

I thought this was interesting. Top Professionals with Psychopathic tendencies. Seems to be positions with control over people and attention seeking.

It's why Doctor Death (surgeon), BTK (ADT security and permit office/security officer!), Golden State Killer (a cop for over 20 years!), etc.. all worked in professions that attract guys like them.

Good sleuthing there. I'm sure all that came when he registered his car plates from PA to WA 5 days after the murders, even a brand new WA license with Pullman address. 🤮
Serial murders when new at it, no matter how smart they think they are, there is always, ALWAYS one thing they forget because they haven't killed enough to iron out every thing. If he was smart, he would of caught this months in advance and make it plausible so no one would of caught this in the investigation. But I digress, they always make one small error in their plans when killing.

Did I miss something? 10? I thought it was two?
Yikes! It's like trophies almost when you think about that, which is him 100% targeting in advance who he wanted to go after on a list of people he was stalking. Those were all his targets!!!

The NY metro area has a gazillion more cell towers than rural Idaho. They probably have one on every block — which makes it a lot easier to pinpoint specific locations. From Pullman to Moscow, they probably have less than 10 total. Locations near hills and/or valleys also affect tower pings.

Also its not as exact as people assume. If one tower is "overloaded" the ping will go to the next nearest one. At least some years ago thats how it was.

A woman was actually charged with murder based on cell tower pings, took a plea, just for DNA evidence to show she was likely not the killer.

It is not a reliable science in the slightest.

I agree with this in every sentence. I would like to repeat my earlier opinion and hope. I want him to be forgotten so that he lives with-- the zero he is. There is nothing redeemable in him. There is nothing we need to know about or from him. He doesn't need to be studied because there is nothing to learn from a zero. I hope society gives BK no thrill by paying attention to him in any form--not books, not films, not interviews. Forget this sick, twisted, inhuman thing. IMO, MOO, my opinion.

Had the house not been demolished by trial time
That's rather questionable that they demolished the house before the trial instead of after the trial. Usually they wait till after the trial incase something in discovery needs them to go back to the scene and re-exam something that was missed. That makes me wonder if it was a forced decision to demolish it by people who were, hate to say it, those insane serial killer fans who steal stuff from crime scenes to either collect or auction off online. Maybe they had too many true crime podcasters trying to go there and was making everyone around town uncomfortable with this.

I still get turned around in that house, as many times as I have studied the layout. The only definitive thing would be the sliders. If you wanted to attack a third floor occupant, your best entry would most likely be the second story slider, and find the stairs up. Third story slider (Kaylee’s room) requires climbing, and the first story front door means you have to enter, do a flight of stairs, walk across the living room to find the stairs to the third floor.

I think Xana and Ethan were murdered because he heard and chased down Xana to her bedroom.

If they got his phone, oh they can certainly use it with the cell tower and records as proof he was 100% there. Your phone has a complied gsp of storing the most frequent places you've been and it's for legal reasons like kidnappings, murders, even divorces when dealing with the legal court system. Same with social media now, they keep a lot of data for legal court reasons.

Oh 100% they were expendable and in the way of kidnapping Maddie, by drugging her most likely and sneaking her out of the house. I think he was hoping for a smooth plan and instead didn't account for the hiccup the way it went. He probably was going to drug everyone in their sleep or find a way to make sure no one came up to find out what he was doing. Ted Bundy use to break into windows on the first floor at WSU, same school Brian was attending!

I've just looked at it today and it's not that confusing. Its confusing because of the way the 3D model was rendered when the roof was removed to see each level in. I bet you if anything, he had in his kill kit one of those rolled up ladders you see with rope or a way to, I bet he studied this, how to use sheets or a blanket to level her out of the window/balcony like when a solider has to be moved in combat that injured and can't walk.

I wonder if he had any ROTC training growing up. I was in AJROTC in high school and this is starting to scream he had some military prepared training to some degree.

Comparing towers in Manhattan/Queens to a much less densely populated area like Gilgo Beach, which is 50 miles away, isn’t a fair comparison. IMG_1016.webp

He might be a legal advisor to other inmates.
(Being educated)
Didn't Ted B. assist other inmates with their legal cases while incarcerated?

Let's not forget BK is cunning & manipulative.
I have a feeling he might carve a niche for himself in prison that will benefit him.

JMO

Ted Bundy had actually been in law school. Kohberger has not and the only experience he has of the law is his own case. The only skill he would have to offer other inmates would be his English writing skills, which while less than impressive in the homework/application that we have seen, is probably better than some of the inmates. And that's all he has to offer along with his subpar teaching assistant skills. There will be other inmates with better helping skills, personal knowledge of the legal system and filing appeals, and sufficient writing skills that prisoners could get help from without having to be talked down to by BK.

He's not a legal genius. That's not what his classes covered. It's not like he helped write any of the filings the defense team submitted. Heck, he didn't even have to sign them, so I question how many of them he ever even actually read as opposed to just had AT summarize to him verbally before she filed them. There are going to be guys there who have been in prison for years and have experience from going through as well as filing appeals of their own.

Moreover from that, BK may have been the source of why the door did not work properly (broken lock?, loose hinges on the front too). It is not typical to have issues like this. Gaining access to study the floor plan and become comfortable, there was evidence just like with lingering at the back of the yard to desentize Murphy. I am remembering the neighbor in Pullman, who he may have been the source of moving around items in the bathroom,

Whatever was going on with the doors/dog behavior should have been red flags to the residents. It should have been reported and repaired. JMOO

Stating the obvious, students believing this house was a coveted place to rent is part of the problem. Too many people coming and going, residents only feeling responsible for their bedroom, and neglect of basic issues like security, lighting, broken locks, and even deck access contributed. They could have done a lot better for $3k a month. It is just obvious and neglectful at minimum. JMOO
I would understand the "loose hinges" as possibly caused by BK, except that the first floor entry door was an inward-swinging door. Hinges are more commonly vulnerable to manipulation by those intending criminality when they are on an outswinging door because those hinges are exposed on the outside of the door, so the hinge pins can be removed or partially removed. There are special hinges that can be purchased to avoid such manipulation - disallowing removal of the hinge pins.

However, it is possible that BK could have loosened the hinges on that front entry door IF he ever had access to the interior - say at a time when the roommates were typically away for classes, shopping, or whatever.
