Porepunkah shooting: Two officers dead and another wounded after shooting at High Country property, Victoria, Australia #2

Yes, I agree they would have been terrified at that point after watching 2 officers be shot dead and focused on saving their own lives - which would be what they are trained to do in a situation like that. Unless they had a clear shot at him from where they were taking cover, they wouldn't have tried anything else. IMO

I am thinking he shot the other officer in the leg on his way out maybe as I know that officer hid under the bus until help arrived. Or maybe he just shot out the door of the bus and got him/her in the leg.

It is so sad and I honestly believe that we are lucky that there weren't more police officers shot dead that day. There were a number of them in close proximity to that bus we now know at the time the others were shot.
Wonder why they weren't wearing protective vests. I'm not victim blaming. I'm just curious.

They were. They are obvious in the video. They must have been shot in the head

I think they were, their general vests yellow on them

I hadn't realised that the police had spent a long time talking with Dezi before he killed those officers. I just thought he saw some police, got spooked because of his paranoia, shot them, and escaped before the others could get to him. Now I think he escaped not because he shot the cops, because in his mind it was self defence, but because he thinks the sexual assault allegations are a frame up by the cops and he's not going to let them take him away to jail.

Did Detective Superintendent Jason Kelly slip up @ about 27:30?? Them?

Kelly : Our focus is on capturing Desmond Freeman , not in relation to necessarily people who may have assisted them him and there might have been reasons why they felt like they needed to assist him and I ah would encourage them to come forward

I thought this too about the time spent there. I thought it was a knock on the door and he shot them.

My takeaways

It was a member of the family who shot the video which the Daily Mail first published

Police are not happy about it.

Kelly : " Look can I be clear from the start, that footage is not Victoria police footage. It's not body worn camera footage. The footage that has been published this morning is from a member of the family of Desmond Freeman. All I can say is I , from a Victoria police point of view, it is both distressing & disappointing. I can only imagine the impact that's had on the family of Neil & Vadim & the collegues who were present and also the broader Victoria Police & law enforcement across Australia."

Vadim's family visited the police on the ground & Vadim's station @ Bright

They had not spoken to Dezi before about the alleged sexual assault

They are getting International help

Have had 200 tips since Saturday when the reward was offered

Wouldn't talk about any individuals ( ie Dezi's family )

Victoria Police need to update their site. The Police information caravan is no longer in Bright. It is now in Myrtleford.

8 September 2025

An information van that had been parked in nearby Bright for members of the public has been moved to Myrtleford.”

Police reviewing hundreds of Porepunkah shooting tip-offs after posting Dezi Freeman reward

In short:-

Police say there have been no confirmed sightings of fugitive Dezi Freeman, despite hundreds of fresh tips from the community.

A $1 million reward offered for information leading to his capture has resulted in about 200 pieces of information delivered to police.

The parents of Vadim de Waart-Hottart, who was killed in a shooting at Mr Freeman's property, toured the staging grounds of the police operation on Tuesday.”

I tend to agree with them here. As much as we all want to know all the details, the public did not need to see it. Our curiosity certainly doesn't take precedence over the respect for the officers' families grief.
I can only imagine how they feel.

'Disappointing' images of the moments before Dezi Freeman allegedly killed two officers were taken by a member of accused gunman's family

By April Glover

Victoria Police Detective Superintendent Jason Kelly told media today the images were taken by a member of Freeman's family.
"That footage is not Victoria Police footage, is it not body-worn, it is by a member of the family of Desmond Freeman," Kelly said.
"From a Victoria Police point of view, it is both distressing and disappointing
"I can only imagine the impact that has had on the family of Neal and Vadim and the colleagues that were present."

Police searching caves and mineshafts for Freeman

The 16-day search for the accused gunman has involved mineshafts, caves, huts and properties.

I noticed this at the end of the article. Have not seen it before now?

That's interesting, normally I only see that at the end of articles about self unalivings.

Won't take the police long to find out. I think the media will give them their source.

imo
