Superintendent Brett Kahan has thanked locals for providing insight into the search area, which is foreign to many of the officers taking part in the manhunt."The assistance from the public and the advice we're getting about that terrain ... has been remarkable," he says.
"We're continuing a significant land and air search in and around that area of activity.
He says Victoria Police is already looking at additional assistance including from the Australian Federal Police and its NSW colleagues."There's a significant police presence, not only in the search for Dezi [Freeman] which will continue, but also to provide that reassurance to the community and also the communities around Porepunkah, which is really important to us."
Anyone in the area can expect to receive more frequent messages from police with updates and advice. They'll be expanding the radius for who receives those messages as well.
"We're sending messaging to those local community members. We're giving advice and we're going to make that advice more timely today," Superintendent Kahan say.
