Its actually not that close to the NSW border , it's about 101 klms, and he's on foot so far as is known.. and that is 101 ks on a tarmac road, if he cross country's it its longer and extremely hazardous..... my nifty spies down in Bright tell me now there is a huge thunderstorm, lighning , wild wind and now bloody sleet..... they've had to bring the cattle in.... you know it s serious when the diary cows are drug in....

Up on Mt Hotham it must be a tornado, and at Dinner Plain, too. surely he would not have gone east up the mountain.. he is not that bright, though...

Even the “Fugitive Squad” are involved. Never heard of them before.

It’s hard to figure out which information police are putting out is accurate because they would be purposefully putting out tactical information to throw him off the scent. IMO

I honestly don't mind if they give us bogus info.
I think we are all used to a lot of details coming in fast from the media, but actually in this tactical case I'm hoping police will use the media as a tool useful for their operations more than to inform the public.

Obviously you want people to know who the nutcase is and the area where the sightings are (if any) so they can report him and also stay away from him if they see him, but that's about all we need to know IMO.

Of note, if he has been in the bush/mountain with this weather, he's not going to look anything like the pics anyway.

It's been pretty bad in the last 48hrs and there is more to come I think.

I don't care at all if there is bogus info, whatever helps them get him... i'm just finding it hard to try to figure it out because we can't tell, is all..

I really wish they would catch this guy. A police officer who has dedicated his entire life to the force 2 weeks off retirement and a rookie gone. So incredibly sad for their families

Emergency warning issued for thunderstorms near the search area

By Melissa Brown

Authorities have just issued an Emergency Warning for Victoria's Alpine Areas as severe thunderstorms develop in the north-east.

It warns people to immediately move indoors to stay safe.

The weather bureau says destructive winds are likely to develop in some parts over the next several hours along with what it describes as "very dangerous" thunderstorms.

The warning says thunderstorms could create widespread debris, severely damage buildings, and bring down large trees and power lines.

The Emergency Warning covers the area coloured red in the map below.

Mount Buffalo, where Porepunkah is, can be seen just north on the edge of the warning.

Weather to affect search for Dezi Freeman

By Melissa Brown

Hail is now falling in Porepunkah.

The temperature has fallen to 6 degrees and rain is expected to increase.

The severe weather is expected to complicate the police operation to find the alleged gunman.

"It's already a tough area to search in the best of conditions and these police are really being hit with the worst of the worst weather for late winter," ABC journalist Erin Somerville has told the News Channel.

It's likely to hamper both the ground search and aerial capabilities.

He must have found , or have prepared some sort of weatherproof shelter... He could not be functioning in the current conditions, His food supply is unknown, but it is unlikely that he is cooking stuff, he'd be mighty ill eating raw deer...... water supply needs to be clean, too not where cattle graze... I just don't think he's this tough!!!

this is the dinner plain live cam..

I believe DF was wearing his reading glasses when he ran off? Any sort of glasses in pouring rain are just impossible, covered in water. So he might have chucked them away. But we haven't heard that they've been found, so maybe not. I wonder what his eyesight is like without any glasses at all. Maybe he is blundering into trees and fences, which should make it easier to find and catch him. Maybe the fact that he is still at large therefore indicates that he is in shelter somewhere. Just some thoughts.

He's 56, s disabled pensioner, with a bad back!! he's a long way from Steve Irwin..... I don't think he is anywhere near this 'bushman' rep he promotes, either.. It's not that hard to shoot a deer , they are huge and not that fast, I'd like to see him hunt water buffalo or a peeved croc..

I agree. The only thing he has to keep alive for is his wife & kids, is that enough, I don't know.

If caught alive, he'll never get out of jail if convicted.

But, maybe he would like the opportunity to represent himself on 2 murder charges & 1 attempted murder charge
