Agreed, if it was a home made shotgun like they say, it's hard to imagine how he succeeded. Even a normal double barrel is two shots then reload. How on earth he managed to shoot three officers without return fire through a flimsy bus, I don't know. You could say one shot hit two of the officers, it is a shotgun after all. So he shot at least twice. According to the reports once through the bus door, then managed to open the bus window and shoot again. No return fire? I just don't understand. You could say maybe he was holding Mali hostage, but - and I don't really know this for sure - I would think if being shot at / hit, the police would return fire regardless of a hostage... correct?

There's two things that I keep thinking about on this case - the above and how / where Mali and her two children got away without being apprehended.
My questions also. Would love to know the strategy police werJe using. I'm not blaming them. Just curious how it occurred and who else was in the bus at the time and was there any shots fired to him. Guess I have to wait for the coronal enquiry

Maybe the investigators wanted to collect the electronics that were not in the bus, but in other areas of the property, so they needed a warrant. As those other areas do not belong to Filby, even though he may have been able to access them.

imo
Maybe Marli was not named , or her property not named on original search thingo.... but now, things have changed, and perhaps her stuff has to be gone thru....,?? just sayin!!

Secrets from the hills: Why this single image exposes why some Porepunkah locals may not want to help police search for Dezi Freeman

The Victorian alpine region, which is the focus of a major manhunt for accused cop killer Dezi Freeman, is filled with Ned Kelly fans who may be aiding the fugitive.

Freeman is an experienced bushman with knowledge of the many caves and disused mine shafts in the area.

Police suspect the self-proclaimed 'sovereign citizen' is being aided by a network of supporters in the region.

As a result, Victoria Police have not ruled out offering a cash reward for information to help capture Freeman as the manhunt drags on.

But money might not talk in this case, as the area is historically known for its anti-authority attitude, which dates back to the 1800s and the era of the outlaw bushrangers.

Australia's most famous bushranger, Ned Kelly, had his 'last stand' shootout with police at Glenrowan, just under 80km west of Porepunkah.

It's possible that the prevailing air of anti-authority is adding to the difficulties authorities are facing.

That Ned Kelly symbol makes me thirsty. It's an advert for the makers of one of Australia's best pale ales brewed in nearby Beechworth. Beechworth Pale Ale - Bottles

While your point absolutely stands regarding the area's history and fascination with bushrangers etc, this particular silo isn't a sign from the local Sov Cits or anything of the sort 🙂

Experts suggest Dezi Freeman may be dead as manhunt for alleged cop killer enters 11th day

“Dezi Freeman may have met a horror end while on the run from police, experts suggested, as a chilling new video emerged of the accused cop killer.

However, experts says if he has taken refuge inside one the of the area’s thousands of mineshafts he may never come out alive.

There is speculation the 56-year-old may be hiding in a mineshaft hole, one of many dotted across the rugged terrain given the conditions, at times, have been cold and wet with temperatures plummeting to single digits.

Mineshaft experts Christopher Bogusis and Kyle Cranfield both agreed he could be underground as cops and sniffer dogs searched above.

Mr Cranfield flagged the holes provided warmth and protection from the treacherous weather but it can be dangerous for those who don’t understand how they work.

“CO2 (carbon dioxide) will sit and pool in a mine, you may, at the entrance, be fine, you may even walk into it and be fine … but once you go down below a certain level, it will just pool there,” he told The Herald Sun.”

It’s 4 o’clock somewhere Premix, so quench your thirst!

Speaking of good old Ned….

A forensic pathologist has revealed an odd trend he has noticed when it comes to a popular Australian tattoo.

“Roger Byard, an Emeritus Professor at The University of Adelaide who is nicknamed Dr Death by his colleagues, specialises in the study of death and injuries

“I just noticed that a lot of the people coming into the mortuary with Ned Kelly tattoos had died violent deaths,” he said.

I did a retrospective study and then I did a 10-year prospective study. Sure enough like 80 per cent of them had died of accidents or suicides or homicides. All sorts of strange things.”

Also maybe, the police initially arrived at the property with a warrant to search for evidence of child sexual abuse.

After the shootings, the property became a crime scene.

This creates two distinct legal jobs, tied to two different alleged crimes, and the evidence gathered needs to be clearly tied to the correct investigation to be valid in court?

alrighty....... !! a search warrant for an historic sexual crime against a child ( historic meaning, in this context, within the last 2 years) as the introductory warrant. .... AND

the subsequent search warrant for two murders and one attempted murder PLUS any other matter the DPP of Victoria deems pertinent to all matters in regard to Desmond Filby, ... AND

( my own personal opinion, ) pertinent to MRS FILBY..

Because the original warrant was not served, they were shot before they got to the door.

Just adding the video @ 24:24 Commissioner Bush discusses the shots

at 25.07 ... he is questioned about other people in the 'commune' thing, and his answer is not other people in the commune but just the 'partner and family' of Dez were under review and questioned.......

BBM : Commissioner Bush says victims  ( not going to go into any further details as there are victims involved about 22:00 )

He also mentioned that 10 officers were sent ( 27:52 ) as it was a search warrant & that they needed to search the area , look for technology & other things that would provide evidence to the offences they were investigating.

It would seem the original warrant..that is, the one for the sexual offence against a child, which , because they were shot before they got to the door, Dez galloping off into the bush, it was not served.. There would be no point in serving it on Marli... the warrant seems ON THAT MATTER to be solely on Des so it would still be operative as a valid warrant, and since Dez has abandoned his residence, it no longer requires his permission to enter it.. It might require Marli to be notified but I gather she is not living there either, so it would be regarded as abandoned property of both of them, the police could come and go at whim and at will....

On Triple J radio news about an hour ago, they said that about 3,000 people attended Snr Const Vadim de Waart-Hottart's funeral.

They also played a snippet of a eulogy delivered by his brother where he said that they wanted Vadim to be remembered for what he achieved in life and not for the way he died. (or words to that effect)

imo

But both Marli and Dez would have known that there was some action, , some trouble coming down the pipeline from the police in regard to this current accusation from a member of the public to the police regarding an offence of a sexual nature against a child, because the child would have been interviewed, and Dez would have been interviewed before a warrant was issued in preparation for a summons..

It is reasonable to assume that both Marli and Dez knew the police were coming and what they were coming for. ..... that is, there were no surprises on this day from their end.,.

Heartbreaking details about cop killed

Liam Beatty, Thomas Henry
Fri 5 September 2025 at 3:15 pm AEST

An estimated 3000 people filed into the chapel on Friday morning, including 250 members of his squad at the Critical Incident Support Team, as the procession got underway.

An additional 3000 people were estimated to have tuned in on video.

A short statement, written by Constable de Waart-Hottart’s mother Carolina de Waart, was read by his cousin Jeremy Dellavedova.

“Some words from mother to son,” he said.
“Our beautiful, kind, wise, joyful boy taken from us who dearly loved him.

“Mother nature now hold him in her embrace; Vadim is everywhere now in the ether, in the divine, in the light.

“Vadim will live among us as a soft breeze on our cheek, an unexpected pure white butterfly hovering over my head.”
