Possible lead in Susan Powell case, 8-18-11

  • #661
I think it's all very logical.

They've already said they had developed information, from a previous search warrant. Something ties Josh (or even Susan) to that specific area.

They don't owe us any explanations, until this case goes to court.

I understand the logic behind the search. I think it's from computer records, especially with (Sergeant) Mike Powell there.

I do not understand ASKING more than a dozen reporters and photographers to follow them around. When it is that dangerous.

That appears to be solely for appearances.
To "utilize the media to let the public know it's still an active investigation..." they could have just photographed them looking in one mine.

What happens if a reporter finds evidence instead of police?
What happens if she is outside a mine instead of in one and a reporter steps on a bone?
What happens if a reporter finds a body and photographs it?

What happens if a reporter does what reporters do... and tweets/reports that they found the body before the family is notified?
"More than a dozen" are going to keep quiet?

Well... I guess that last one wouldn't be likely to be a top concern.
They didn't notify the family of this search so I guess they aren't worried about them finding out results of it either.

Ely, Nevada • Searchers began a second day of looking for missing West Valley City mother Susan Cox Powell, switching from an area west of Ely to a remote region 12 miles southeast of the town of Ward Mountain.

Four West Valley City detectives planned to use ATVs to examine “a handful of areas in this mining district,” wrapping up their search on Saturday afternoon, said Sgt. Mike Powell.

The areas on opposite sides of Ely were both spots detectives have wanted to check, based on information gleaned from a search warrant executed when Susan Powell disappeared in December 2009 and information recently received by the department, said Powell, no relation to Susan Powell.

Resumed search for Susan Powell moves southeast of Ely

Quote from the above link:
"base camp set up at historic Ward Cemetery, with gravestones that date to the late 1800s. Ward is a former mining community, and the Ward Mine was operating until the 1960s,"

Good info. Ward is also along US-50.

OK....if they have "indications" leading to this site, as well as west of Ely, they have indications that link Josh to US-50 between Delta and Ely.
That supports a theory that Josh drove through Utah's "pony express" area enroute to Ely, and not via Wendover or US-93.

I don't think it was her mother, was it? All the way in Puyallup? I thought it was the boys' day care provider. She was there on the scene when the officer broke in. Hmm. I can't remember. Maybe the babysitter called Susan't mom who called police?

I thought it was Josh's sister, but don't quote me on that. I do know that the latest timeline recently posted of that morning was not stated properly. The had the daycare woman beginning to "search" for JP and SP much later that morning, when she really started somewhere around 7am. Susan and/or Josh would drop the kids off normally around 6:30. It was 3+ hours from the time the daycare woman suspected something was wrong and the time they called LE for a welfare check. JMO, but the timeline for this is "off". Found it. There more timeline; I just listed the morning of her missing.

Monday, December 7, 2009: Family and friends first believed the entire Powell family had succumbed to carbon-monoxide poisoning when the couple didn't go to work, didn't call to let anyone know they weren't going to work, and didn't drop the children off to daycare. Timeline (times are approximate):
  • 6:30 a.m.: Regular time children are dropped off to daycare
  • 7 a.m. : Debbie Caldwell, the Powell's daycare provider and Susan's friend, calls Susan on cell and at work; no answer; cell phone went straight to voice-mail
  • 8 a.m.: Debbie calls Josh' work; she was told he had not come in to work
  • 8:50 a.m. : Debbie drove to Susan's home; pounded on the door; there was no answer
  • 9 a.m.: Josh's mom, Terri, called (responding to Debbie's call - she lives with Jennifer, Josh's sister, and overheard the phone message Debbie left for Jennifer stating she could not get in contact with Josh or Susan)
  • Jennifer calls Chuck and Judy Cox to ask if they'd heard from Susan or Josh
  • Mid-morning: Jennifer, Terri, and Debbie discuss possible carbon-monoxide poisoning
  • Police were called to check on the family
  • No one answered the door; police broke front window and entered the house
  • Police found Susan's purse and keys and 2 box-type fans blowing on a wet spot on the carpet
  • They found the family mini-van was missing
  • Family surmised the family might have gone for a drive and possibly been involved in an accident

This is all about publicity, and Josh Powell. He's the target of that effort, not us. What we think, based on little information, doesn't matter.

If they go into a mine and find "a body" (ie, bones), they're not going to take the media into that mine and play show-and-tell. They're going to put crime scene tape around it and call in the forensic examiners.

I suspect she is suggesting Josh himself planted it after the fact.

Ah. I thought she was stating it as her belief.

My apologies, Sono.

Exactly. I don't believe for one second that Susan ever knew Steven. I do think JP would do whatever he could to lead us to believe that they were somehow connected.

They are done already? I wonder if that means they found something or if it just means it's so hot out there now that they decided to stop?

So ... the man who has a restraining order against Chuck Cox, is publicly STALKING Chuck Cox by purposely showing up a "Find Susan" event?"

I tell ya, folks. I truly believe "it" is working -- and that it's now a coordinated effort between friends, family and LE.

I sure do hope you're right! I don't follow this case as much as y'all so I have to ask, has JP been this "involved" in other searches taking place in other areas?

He's never searched.
He did show up once, to a candlelight vigil.

So we can assume his reaction to the search in this area is out of character for him?

The order bars Cox from harming Josh Powell “and from molesting, harassing, threatening or stalking” him, according to court documents. It also states Cox can’t go to the Powells’ home, workplaces or to the schools where his two grandchildren, Charlie, 6, and Braden, 4, attend

The title isn't right. Should be Father and Father in law argue.

Josh has the temp restraining order, not his dad Steven.

It's been corrected

You nailed it twizzlrgirl! The 'P' men aren't reasoning like a woman. They are giving elaborate scenarios/theories which is just not beleivable to me as a woman. I mean no disrespect to our WS goodguys but men and women are hardwired to think differently. The whole camping story is ludicrous to me.

I lived in a miserable marriage which took years to escape because I was afraid. Spot cleaning the carpet was the LAST thing on my mind when I finally fled. (with my children, btw)

MOO wm

Exactly! IF she was so set on leaving her family that she didn't care if he took the boys camping at midnight in freezing temps, she certainly would not care about a frickin' rug. Period. A woman mentally abandons something before physically leaving. If she had "checked out," so to speak on her family, cleaning would not be anywhere on her radar. And, vice versa: if she still cared about how her rug looked, or leaving the place clean for her family, she wouldn't have left. IMO

These are all signs to me of a guilty man. His nervousness is coming out as anger, and he's starting to lash out. Sounds like he's starting to unravel.
