I think it's all very logical.
They've already said they had developed information, from a previous search warrant. Something ties Josh (or even Susan) to that specific area.
They don't owe us any explanations, until this case goes to court.
I understand the logic behind the search. I think it's from computer records, especially with (Sergeant) Mike Powell there.
I do not understand ASKING more than a dozen reporters and photographers to follow them around. When it is that dangerous.
That appears to be solely for appearances.
To "utilize the media to let the public know it's still an active investigation..." they could have just photographed them looking in one mine.
What happens if a reporter finds evidence instead of police?
What happens if she is outside a mine instead of in one and a reporter steps on a bone?
What happens if a reporter finds a body and photographs it?
What happens if a reporter does what reporters do... and tweets/reports that they found the body before the family is notified?
"More than a dozen" are going to keep quiet?
Well... I guess that last one wouldn't be likely to be a top concern.
They didn't notify the family of this search so I guess they aren't worried about them finding out results of it either.
