Nevada search for Susan Powell ends, mystery remains
By melinda Rogers
The Salt Lake Tribune

Ely, Nevada • The eastern Nevada desert search for missing West Valley City mother Susan Cox Powell came to an end Saturday afternoon with her 20-month-old disappearance still a mystery.

Still, West Valley City police Sgt. Mike Powell declared the two-day effort “successful,” noting several sites that a four-member detective team wanted to search and gather evidence from had been scrutinized.

But no human remains were found, leaving Susan Powell’s fate still unsettled.

Earlier Saturday, the search effort had switched from an area west of Ely to a remote region 12 miles southeast of Ward Mountain.

Detectives used ATVs to get to a handful of locations in the mining district, wrapping up their search on Saturday afternoon, Powell said....

Was she changing careers or planning for a second income, I wonder...

I found it:
"Susan gave up her goal of working as a hairstylist shortly after
relocating to Utah to help Joshua with his real estate business.
She later worked with Fidelity and got a job at Wells Fargo,
working as an assistant stockbroker, where she helped people
with transactions over the phone."

Interesting that she she had essentially the same job as Lori
Hacking, and even worked for the same company (Wells Fargo).

I wonder if that gave Josh any ideas?

Steely, can you help us out?

That really-long URL in your signature file, is causing the WS pages to flow off our screens.

You can shorten a long URL here: tinyurl.com

Thanks!

But Mark H. caved in a matter of days and confessed to his brother...no, I don't see this guy confessing to anything...

That's because Mark actually came from a good family, Josh doesn't.

ETA: Meaning Josh's father, his sister is seems to be a good person.

You should be seeing buttons that look like this;

If you don't see that then there is something wrong. Try logging out and looking at one of my posts. Someone else who emailed me about the same thing said that after logging out they could see the buttons instead of the links.

I don't know how they fixed it.

It sounds like they did not find anything significant yet. I wish I knew how they decided to search those particular mines. I have always thought that she might be down an abandoned mine shaft somewhere, but which one?

Does anyone know where someone said he was at a holiday party with JP and JP was bragging that it would be easy to dispose of a body in an old mine shaft?

BBM

And the alibi given by JP does not work when you think like a woman. What woman would ever agree to allow her toddlers to be taken out of the house at midnight in the middle of a blizzard, so that supposedly, they could go make s'mores? No woman that I know would ever allow that to happen. Ever.

I really worry about those little boys. I hope someone is keeping a very close eye on them now.

The alibi sounds to me like something he could have said to his boys to explain why they need to leave home so suddenly. "I'm sleepy, I don't wanna go, it's cold outside, where's mommy?" "But we can make s'mores, you love s'mores, don't you?" "OK then."

It was some kind of get-together, but at least a year before Susan disappeared.

It might be evidentiary, but excluded in court as hearsay.

OMG ! Did you all see this ! Not sure if it is the correct thread though:

Father-in-law, father of missing Susan Powell argue Saturday in Puyallup, Wash

Puyallup, Wash. • The father and father-in-law of Susan Powell met face-to-face in front of reporters and cameras for the first time Saturday with each accusing the other of telling lies and not helping to find the missing woman.

Her father, Chuck Cox, and father-in-law, Steve Powell, raised their voices but otherwise kept their tempers in check. They stood 3 feet from each other at a busy intersection outside a Fred Meyer store. Members of the Cox family and supporters were waving a banner and signs with Susan Powell’s photo at the spot.

"We were going to get a picture of Chuck Cox," Steve Powell said, turning to reporters. "We believe he’s in violation of a restraining order because Josh shops at this store."

"You own the neighborhood?" Cox asked

They definitely needed to get out of the house, suddenly.

Clearly. And he had a really stupid explanation for their departure. I hope LE keeps him talking by calling out to the press. The more he talks the worse off he will be since everything he says is so silly and improbable.

Would it be ridiculous to hope this whole thing was a distraction from another search? A way to distract JP and then watch him very closely and wait for a mistake?

I sure hope there is a method to this madness and that something comes from this search that breaks the case wide open.

I can tell you one thing, that RO will be lifted and JP father knows it. It is of my opinion that this man went there to instigate SP father to strike out at him.

How can you have a RO out on someone and then show up where they are at. That tells the court that the person who took out that restraining order is not in fear.

If I were SP father I would take one out on JP dad asap

I'd be filing court papers to get those kids the (blank) out of the Powell home.
