The video GH made that @Megnut posted earlier shows it very clearly. I am not curious if there is 8 seconds missing OR if LE chose to have it "paused" on the still frame, so something wasn't show to us. I am guessing most likely it was just paused due to no movement and the camera is triggered again, but it also has me curious if it was continuous and showed something that LE doesn't want us to know (like those 2 talking or handing something off. Maybe they want a connection between those 2 to remain holdback evidence or something like that. IMO

It's both – the timestamp jumps from 28 seconds past to 36 seconds past, so eight seconds are unrecorded or have been edited out. Then, there's a frozen frame at 36 seconds past but nothing missing after that – the timestamp moves smoothly to 37 seconds, etc. It originally looked to me that it was the second person, originally visible on the right of the video footage, who was running, and not the POI. I'm not certain, though. My first thought was that the second person, wearing a lighter-colour hat than the POI, broke into a run the way I would if I saw a bus arriving that I wanted to be on, but I don't know the area and I don't know if that's a possibility.

For clarity: the long pause is on the frame after the missing footage, not before. It's not clear to me why the paused frame exists. Is it to get people to look at something in that frame?

I confess to being completely flummoxed by this guy’s meanderings, and I appreciate all of you who are trying to figure it out.

I know that before I joined Websleuths five years ago, there was a now deceased poster whom I’ve seen quoted.

Something about “before you can connect the dots, you must collect the dots.”

And in this case the dots seem very disjointed to me.

I do think they’ll track him down eventually, now that there’s more abundant video.

IMO that will be if the right tip comes in, likely by someone who recognizes him and is willing to inform LE.

Could it be a function of a security camera that records while it is recording? Double capture?

Okay so I just watched GH's coverage again. Look at 6:30 into his video and watch on the other side of the street behind the suspect. I see a man in black walking. Could that be the man from the previous clip that was seen also running?

That's what I've been wondering. It sounds like LE feels like they're making good progress, though, and are much further along than a couple of days ago. The talk of DNA is interesting – you can see the POI is gloved in some footage but not in others.

It seems to me, the person's gait is caused by obesity,
and legs seem to be "knee knocked".
This condition worsens with each kilo gained.
Also thick thighs cause walking like this.

I was just looking at that too. I acquiesce there does appear to be 2 suspects. It also appears the 2nd continues straight while the guy in black turns the corner. If there are 2 suspects, I hope they traced the other guys movements to a get away vehicle. This would make sense that the other guy was the "getaway" driver and what would seem to be the suspects disappearance into thin air. I sure hope they looked at video tracing the other guys movements and they found a vehicle to trace.

The dishearting part is that there is potentially not 1 but 2 sick individuals out there that need to apprehended. I sure hope they are close to making arrests.

Granted, before it happened the guy was walking around willy nilly and loitering, but afterwards he had to have gone somewhere along at least a couple of streets to get out of the area, back to his car (if he had one) or wherever. The building he entered is right there in the neighborhood.

Public transit in Rhode Island is mainly buses, although there's been a train that goes to Boston. Access is mainly at ground level. To the best of my recollection, there are no public transit facilities with elevators, except at the airport. If he's from Rhode Island, or adjacent areas in Connecticut or Massachusetts, he probably has a car. It's hard to live without one.

I have spent a lot of time in NYC, but have only been to New England once. As a result, I was wondering if there was a corridor between say, NYC - Newport- Boston, where there would still be good numbers of people with out cars and having some NYC style public transportation.

I too think his multi-block wanderings might have been him trying to talk himself into (or out of) the shooting.

And one more theory for the shooting itself: perhaps someone who got an engineering degree from Brown (maybe even 10-20 years ago) but who is struggling in his career, unable to find or keep a job in his field, etc. Or overwhelmed with student debt, either by itself or in addition to the job struggles. Given the current economy I imagine there are many people who aren't feeling like their college degrees were worth the cost. MOO

I think 90% that’s his real pot belly, just because his legs look stocky, as well.

But I do recall, when I was in my early 20s, dressing up as an old lady for Halloween.

Part of my disguise was wearing a pillow belted under my old lady dress, just to look more matronly, and it worked really well.

I don’t think it’s a fake pregnancy belly because the shape isn’t right, and again I do think it’s his real belly, but as yet we know so little that I can entertain any possibility at the moment.

I think that's a reasonable theory as to motive. Another possibility (depending on his age) is that he could be someone whose child (I keep thinking a son) was let go from a graduate or undergraduate program, possibly with very negative results. I assume they're looking into people who were enrolled in or graduated from programs in that building or in programs associated with the professor teaching the review session (or whatever it was).

Just a thought I had, not finalized by any means…

He may have had a vehicle staged on Cooke, north of George. He doesn’t want to be seen going into the vehicle or being associated with it, so he is keeping his distance. He sees folks around, so has to bail a couple of times on trying to access the vehicle and does loops around the intersection. Goes up and down George to make it seem like he’s going somewhere different by other pedestrians, and cuts back to make sure the coast is clear. I need to check on when/where the running instances occurred, but may have been an effort to get to the vehicle while no one was around or move away from the vehicle because people were around.

Maybe because it was getting darker and the lighting is bad on the videos, so not much use to release to the public (though might be helpful to LE)? Idk.
