I’m sorry, but I simply do not believe that law enforcement is going through all this time and effort to disseminate photos of someone who is merely thought to be a witness.

What is that person going to tell you that you haven’t already gleaned from camera footage, survivors, and other witnesses?

This press conference will be very telling, especially considering these reporters have no qualms about asking hard questions.

That looks like an Arab Women in that new tweet. And should easily be identified too.

I am more convinced this is a woman and I see a hoodie up over what might be a hijab. Looks like glasses also.
Yes, that’s what I was thinking from the side photo in the first release. This one is much better and seems to very much confirm that speculation. Not liking the direction this is heading, for sure.

So that little segment of Ives street AFTER the shooting is a new piece of data. It might indicate a car was parked that way since he is walking back toward the area he was previously wandering around. Or was he linking back up with person 2 somewhere?
Going S down Ives gets you back to the same area as going E on George… has to be something in that area relevant to him.

Oh, I can see it now that you’ve pointed it out.

Wonder if we’ve got a husband and wife situation, like San Bernardino.

Something we can see from following all these cases on Webslueths is we don't always like the direction cases go, but no matter who did this, it's evil and wrong. No matter what the motive, it's evil and wrong. People from ALL backgrounds commit acts that are evil, even people we would never believe would harm anyone are capable. That is what often makes these cases so shocking. Grandparents, and parents murdering their own children, children killing their parents, strangers just going mad and killing people, domestic terrorism, and other types of terrorism. We just never know and personally I just want this person or people caught and if it's what it looks like it's heading toward then so be it, if it's something else entirely, so be it. This community needs the killer caught and if anyone helped him they need caught too so they can begin to heal. IMO

How do they have such a good close up of this person but not of the suspect!

  • #972
Well, if there is a screen being used I find it unlikely an arrest has been made. Likely more footage

Stumbles in search for Brown University shooter led to wrong man

From CNN’s Evan Perez

On Sunday morning, as investigators rushed to prepare a search warrant for a hotel room in Coventry, Rhode Island, FBI Director Kash Patel broke the news on social media celebrating that a person of interest had been detained in the Brown University mass shooting.

Around the same time, Providence Mayor Brett Smiley announced the man’s detention from a podium, telling residents they can “breathe a little easier.”

It turned out to be the wrong man.

Patel’s announcement, made in a post on X, highlighted the role of the FBI in using cellphone tower data to find the alleged person of interest. By that time, however, some investigators already knew that the person of interest’s cellphone was never identified at the scene of the shooting, casting doubt on the man’s involvement, three people familiar with the investigation told CNN.

Within hours, those doubts grew as investigators determined that tests on shell casings found at the scene of the shooting didn’t match the DNA of the person of interest, two of the sources said.

Two handguns found in the hotel room of the person of interest also didn’t match ballistics of the casings, and a residue test on the man’s hands came back negative, the sources said.

The man detained was released later Sunday.

The FBI director’s social media post angered local and state officials in Rhode Island who viewed it as premature and damaging to the probe.

A person familiar with the FBI director’s social media post said that Patel was referring to the use of the CAST data to pinpoint the person’s location at the hotel.

The FBI declined to comment.

Read more about the initial stumbles in the investigation.

It is possible that people in the classroom didn't hear what he said because of the noise of gunfire, probable screaming and panic. Of course, they were focused on fleeing, too, and there probably was noise from the people hurrying out. That is why a recording would be optimal. But someone probably heard it. Was there ambiguity in what was reported? Conflicting accounts? We don't know right now.
Plus whatever he yelled would be muffled by a mask, right?

I'm hoping that someone was recording the review session. Of course, since it sounds like the session was ending, the recordings might've been turned off.

I am not convinced: large hands, shoulders wider than hips- still looks male to me. from this angle, however, this person does not look portly at all. just IMO, because people do disguise themselves.

Notes from press conference:

Police chief presents the map and photos of the second person which the department released earlier today. Says they believe the person pictured may have information relevant to the investigation. Also urges the public not to share AI-generated images and to only rely on the photos and videos released by LE.

Now onto questions:

A reporter asks what is the earliest this POI is captured on camera. The police chief says the earliest is at 10:30am on Saturday. But states that it is possible the POI was in the area earlier as well.

Police chief clarifies that the second person was "close enough" to the POI that they believe they will have relevant information. Specifies that the area they crossed paths was near the RI Historical Society.

Police chief says they have not found any "items of interest" during their more recent searches thus far. Confirms DNA evidence has been collected.

Representative of Brown states "we are cooperating 100% with law enforcement" and "all materials" are being provided to law enforcement.

Police chief states they are assuming the POI hid the satchel under his jacket at times as he is seen carrying it "on and off." States police have not recovered the satchel.

Police chief states that he cannot give an exact number of students who were in the room where the shooting took place as students are still getting in contact with them.

Police chief says they do not believe there were multiple weapons involved. AG clarifies "we are not in a position to say whether this was a long gun or not" -- says there are "multiple accounts about multiple things." Emphasizes they are being careful about the facts they are sharing to prevent contaminating the memories of witnesses. Says part of what LE is doing now is reconciling the different accounts. AG states if people leave the presser thinking that a long gun was definitely used that would be a "misperception."

Police chief says "it is going to take public assistance" and "good old-fashioned police work." AG says "there is no discouragement" in the command post.

AG says "it's just a matter of time" before the shooter is caught.

AG says DNA can be used to rule people in or out.

Police chief says it is currently unknown whether the shooter currently or formerly had any connection to Brown.

FBI declines to get into the specifics when it comes to investigative techniques in response to question about cellphone data but states everything is being expedited.

Police chief says "we have seized and found physical evidence."
