Britain’s air force said two Typhoon fighters were launched from RAF Lossiemouth to monitor the Russian bombers as they flew north of the Shetland Islands off Scotland. The governor of southern Odesa region, Oleh Kiper, asked residents of Izmail district to take shelter at about 1:30 a.m. (2230 GMT) and cancelled the air raid alert one hour later.
• Russia’s defence ministry said Wednesday it shot down three Ukrainian drones southwest of Moscow, the latest in a surge of aerial attacks near the capital. Ukraine launched the attack at 5:00 am using “three unmanned aerial vehicles on objects in the Kaluga region”, the ministry said on Telegram.
• Three people were killed, several people were wounded and buildings were damaged in a large-scale air-attack on Ukraine’s western region of Lviv and the north-western region of Volyn. “Many missiles were shot down, but there were also hits in Lviv,” city mayor Andriy Sadovyi said, adding that orders were given to evacuate at least one burning apartment building. • Three Bulgarian nationals suspected of spying for Russia while living in the UK have been arrested and charged, police have said. • Sweden’s government said Tuesday that it would donate to Ukraine ammunition and spare parts for previously donated weapon systems worth over $300m (£240m). Speaking at press conference, defence minister Pal Jonson said the military aid package, Sweden’s 13th to Ukraine, would include ammunition and spare parts valued at about 3.4bn kronor ($313m/£250m).

Russia blamed Ukraine for Friday’s attempted drone strike on Moscow, which forced authorities to suspend traffic to four major airports in the Russian capital. During the suspension, seven flights were diverted to alternative locations: three to Nizhny Novgorod, three to St. Petersburg and one to Minsk, in Belarus.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that Russian air defenses shot down a drone over the capital city overnight into Friday. The Hong Kong-flagged Joseph Schulte, carrying 30,000 metric tons of cargo including food products, is the first vessel to use a temporary Black Sea shipping corridor established following the breakdown of a UN-brokered grain deal last month, Kyiv officials said.
• Japan concerned: Japan’s defense ministry said Friday that it scrambled fighter jets in response to two Russian IL-38 information-gathering aircrafts seen flying to and from the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea through the Tsushima Strait, which separates Japan and South Korea. This came after Tokyo expressed “grave concern” after Chinese and Russian warships sailed close to its southern islands on Thursday.
• F-16 transfers: The US has committed to approving the transfer of F-16 fighter jets for Ukraine as soon as training is complete, according to a US official. The plan is to make sure Ukraine has the fighter jet it has long sought the moment its pilots complete training on the F-16. The training program was initially expected to start this month, but it is now unclear exactly when it will start or how long it will take.
• Lukashenko threat: Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, a key Russian ally, said Minsk would immediately respond to aggression if provoked, including by using nuclear weapons, state media reported. Earlier this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced plans to station tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.

Russian forces strike center of Chernihiv with missile. The city center of Chernihiv has been targeted by Russian forces "possibly with a ballistic missile," Chernihiv Oblast Governor Viacheslav Chaus reported at 11:41 a.m. local time. UPDATE: 7 killed, 90 injured, including children, in Russian missile attack on Chernihiv city center. A woman’s body was found under the rubble bringing the death toll of the Russian missile attack on Chernihiv to 7, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said.

Among those killed is a six-year-old child, Interior Ministry reported. 90 people were injured, including 12 children and 10 police officers, according to Klymenko. 25 people were hospitalized.
