Found Deceased SC - Brittanee Drexel, 17, Myrtle Beach, 25 April 2009 - #8

I have not been on Brittanees thread for awhile, I am so glad to see they have some person's of interest !
I am so glad they have stuck to this case and not just let it go like so many....

I'm thinking that these people saw her walking alone by herself and decided to make a move.

What's the drug connection in all this? ( talking about the people in custody, not PB and Co)

Someone reported a tip on here about a barn and that they had to keep thier mouth shut about what happened to Brittanee.

what thread was that on? I'd like to go back and re read it.

Yep, in NY a 17yo can go wherever they want and LE and parents can't do anything about it. When I was a teen it was 15, not entirely sure what the lower limit is now, but 17 definitely.

It's not explicitly tied in with age of consent, it's more tied in with state laws on when they can quit school etc...

Quitting school should be stopped,the kids are not needed to work the farm anymore.Parents are responsible till the age of 18 for our kids.If they cause damage we have to pay for it,if they are absent too many times we can be taken to court and jail.Makes no sense that they can decide at 17 to go out of state with out parents permission and that is okay?That s insane! I bet if her mom dropped her out of state then drove home.I bet she would have been arrested.They had to break some law and if not I would sue each and everyone one of them for what they did.They need to be punished so this does not happen to more young kids.

I find it interesting that LE came forward with this "breaking news" right around the time that MLATTA requested the information on the DNA results from the sunglasses. Makes me wonder if they did get something positive to help with the investigation from the testing of the sunglasses so felt since the information was requested by the Freedom of Information Act, now would be a good time to go ahead and release the news that they had these POI now and let it be known the "tip" they had back in December was instrumental in leading to these POI.

To MLATTA, did you ever hear back on the DNA on the sunglasses information? Just wondering because it seems all of this "late breaking news" came about right at the time you were expecting to get a response on that. Sorry if this post is rambling....as I really do not know much about how LE decides to release information about cases, just doing a little speculation on the timing. I am floored about all of this and extremely sad because like so many of us here, I was following the case from day one and hoping and praying that she would be found safe somewhere, although in my heart, I feared the worst.

Believe me, I know what you mean - when I turned fifteen, being the inconsiderate, rebelious teen that I was, I took advantage of those rules to move into my friend's house, whose mom was one of those no rules 'cool moms'...broke my poor mom's heart, especially when the cops had to tell her there was nothing she could do. Man I wish I hadn't been able to do that, really messed things up for a long time. Plain and simple, teens, no matter how smart, can make some really dumb decisions if you let them.

There isn't a definite one. What makes all of us consider this? Well:

• The Roc "friends" have been sketchy since the get-go -- suggesting they might have something to hide.
• Some members here have suggested "shorts" might be slang for drugs.
• Due to FB comments, it's clear that the crew was using drugs while on vacation.
• BD left the hotel around 8:15 and texted JG until 9:15. She was SOMEWHERE (comfortable enough to be texting) for an hour. An article also just mentioned that her phone stopped texting around the Georgetown area, which means she was comfortable until she got there.

Police investigating Drexel case as a homicide, friends react
Friends of a missing Chili teenager got the devastating news today. Police now believe Brittanee Drexel is dead.

"It makes it worse knowing that someone actually made the choice to hurt her," said Charlene Capo.

Capo's daughter, Casey, was best friends with Drexel.

Investigators believe the 18-year-old was murdered while on spring break in South Carolina. Capo says her heartaches for Drexel's family.

According to a published report, police are investigating several persons of interest in the disappearance of 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel.

Even though the articles say they've been named, they haven't been named publicly. And they are not the friends. The POI's live in the North Santee area of SC and did not know Britt "directly."

I wouldn't necessarily say acquainted with them, just as likely someone in the roc crew vouched for them or some such - unfortunately teens (and college students for that matter) can convince themselves they are safe in such circumstances. Either way, I wouldn't be surprised if they do indeed know something.

Setting up a hypothetical scenario:

Assuming they were acquainted, one could venture to guess that she had met them earlier during the trip. Maybe she had spent time with them before. What if this IS about drugs? Maybe they came upon each other on Ocean Blvd that night and B asked for more. What if they said, "We don't have any on us, but we have some back at home an hour away. Come with us and we'll bring you right back."

If something like that happened then the Roc crew would not know for sure what happened, but might have an idea if they knew (or even didn't know) that B might be meeting with these people that night.

It does seem that when LE says they don't believe the POIs know Brittanee directly that they are saying they know her indirectly.

That said, I didn't notice that key word throughout the first few articles. It didn't stand out to me. I interpreted it as them saying they didn't know her at all.

It wasn't until you WSers pointed out the potential that maybe they knew her through someone else.

Also -- if B had come across these people during her vacation earlier in the week would LE really know this? Maybe they did know her, ya know?

I was thinking it possible that she'd met them at club k with the roc crew, or perhaps was present for an earlier buy. They also may have seen her on the street and pullled over to say 'Hey Brit, wanna party? Forget your (jerk) friends and come hang out with us.' Why else would she have gotten in the car? She'd met them already, and as a naive teen, she got in the car. Hence no witnesses reporting a struggle. There wasn't one, at least not on the street.
