Myrtle Beach body is unidentified after 5 months
Published 13th Oct 2013

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Police are pretty certain the well-kept middle-aged woman with the dolphin tattoo on her leg came to Myrtle Beach to die, but they can't figure out who she is.

Her fingerprints don't show up in any criminal databases, and she doesn't match any missing persons report from across the country. She left behind no car to be discovered, no bag unclaimed on the beach or in a hotel room. Officers took her photo by dozens of places where homeless people congregate in the area, but no one recognized her.
-----
A tourist on a balcony spotted her bobbing in the waves around 8 a.m. on the south side of Myrtle Beach.
-----
Police think she intended to commit suicide because cuts were found on her wrists, although she died from drowning. Blood was found in a public bathroom about a mile down the beach.

Until that day, the body found off Myrtle Beach will remain in the morgue. She has been embalmed, so she will be ready to go home whenever authorities figure out who she is.

- its very sad to find out that the Police think the UID lady intentionally wanted to commit suicide :(
I hope someone comes forward soon to identify her, now with the new publicity on her case.

LINK CLICK Fowler is awaiting toxicology results to determine if she had alcohol or drugs in her system, because he said killing yourself by drowning is hard. The body possesses a natural instinct to survive and most people would need to be intoxicated to overcome that, he noted.

I wondered if the Police had checked any of the Self Storage places for her things.
Just a thought.

I've just gone through and read all of the posts in this thread. This interests me a lot since I was just in MB two weeks ago (and didn't know about this UID until now). Going back to Essie Wilson's son, there's a pic on his facebook page of an article written about him and judging from the article it looks like he had been in foster care. I wonder how much (if any) contact he's had with his mom especially since it seems like she's been in and out of jail, dealt with mental health issues etc?

I do have a question though about the UID's swimsuit, it looks like a one piece with a "skirt" but I can't really tell. I haven't read through all of the news articles yet but was there a more detailed description of her swimsuit somewhere? I hate to stereotype but the pattern looks like something an older person would lean towards.

Someone earlier in this thread had contacted the ME, did they ever hear anything?

Thank you, FigTree, for finding these articles and posting them. I've been trying to find out who this woman is for the last 5 months.

The cuts on her wrists are new information. Why didn't they report this in the beginning?

I'm still not convinced she killed herself. This woman took care of herself! Most depressed people could care less how they look. It just dosen't make sense to me!

Maybe this would explain why they didn't show photos of her hands. Such a sad, sad situation!! If she did to the ocean to die, maybe she was newly divorced, maybe newly widowed. Maybe she was an only child, just lost her last living parent. There was no mention of diseases of any kind so she wasn't dying from cancer. No mention yet of the medications found in her bloodstream so does that mean she wasn't on any meds for depression? This case has bothered me since I started reading about it.

Not true. I'm depressed and have suicidal tendencies and I take care of myself. We've seen several UID suicides (Lyle Stevick, Annandale Jane Doe) who were very well taken care of when they committed suicide. Your assumption that those of us who are depressed don't care about our outward appearance is wrong and ignorant.

I wish they had added that detail as well into the IUD's profile - I wonder when did they come to this conclusion?

I think with the Police saying 'Blood was found in a public bathroom about a mile down the beach' - I wondered if this was a Public amenity available to anyone or are they linked to hotels, or to a pier? They didn't say it was her blood but I'm assuming they tested it for a match to her.

I'm thinking she may have been travelling/sailing on a boat and she was abandoned, left stranded, had to leave the boat for some reason. An abusive partner, some bad news, no money or support, kicked off a cruise, - maybe she had nothing because she had been robbed or swindled out of her stuff. Maybe this was a seperation of some sort. Was she invited by someone to Myrtle Beach and they didn't show...

She maybe an International traveler - not from the States and felt very vulnerable in a place she didn't know. poor lady :(

More-so than before I think someone knows she is missing - but they may not be coming forward.
Someone must care about her.

Seeing as how her wrists were supposedly slit I wonder if the scratches on her neck have to do with attempted suicide as well..

This is just one article that lists "poor personal hygiene" as a symptom of depression. There are thousands like it:

I will stand by my previous statement!

One of the angles that I have been exploring is that our UID may be the relative of someone else who has drowned there at the beach. However, I must admit that cutting the wrists first kind of makes that less likely.

I've seen it reported many times that it is very difficult to intentionally drown yourself. The body has a natural instinct to survive. So, usually people will jump to their death off a bridge or drink heavily or something along those lines to make it less likely that they will survive.

I wonder what our UID's blood alcohol levels were.

I wonder/hope that somewhere the alcohol level details are made available - or more of the story comes about. I'll keep an eye out.

I also wondered how long it was before Police discovered the blood in the bathroom?
Did they get dogs to trail her blood scent to the beach?
Was there a blood trail?

LE didn't say how long it was before she (allegedly) entered the water after the blood was found.

The other thing - it was dark in the early morning when they think she must have entered the water. They estimated she had been in the water for 5 hours before she was found. That would make it about 2.00-3.00am.

It seems strange that she would be dressed at night/2.00am in her bathing suit in a public bathroom. Someone must have noticed her.

Did someone find her and put her in the ocean?

I wonder what else about the lady hasn't been released details wise.

Would be interesting to know how those scratches ended up on her neck. I wondered that and thought it could have been from rocks, stingers, debris in the water, her rescue, the pot mortem process...
They don't seem to be very deep.
I wondered if they even may have been inflicted by somebody else, now :(
But, I don't really know.

People who commit suicide rarely do things that make any sense to others.

Yes, its very sad, and her reasons are her own and for that I am unconditionally compassionate with her situation.

I was hoping bringing up some reason could possibly point to where to look next. I know the articles have said that she is not in any database, but I still look - thinking maybe they missed her or there were no fingerprints or dental's entered as a missing person.
I'm at a loss at where to go next with only the resources of the net.

When I spoke to the coroner I asked about the scratches and he said something to the effect that it was caused by something in the water (rocks). I posted about 50 posts back with what he said verbatim.
